They must be feeling the pinch. We deliver to most of the Chinese cash and carry’s in Manchester and Liverpool with frozen groupage pallets. i always look at the load manifests every day and we haven’t delivered to any of these for about 10 days.

Graham I just wondered if people associate Covid19 with the Chinese cooking culture and will now steer clear of there cuisine or will the taste buds eventually be too much of a draw, on another point there obviously wont be any ques outside McDonalds when all this is over and done with as most of the kids will have died by then from withdrawal symptoms of not having any for six months, Buzzer

It’s certainly a consideration but the frozen pork ribs we deliver to the Chinese cash and carry’s come from a Norfolk company, not from China. If I went out to a Chinese restaurant in Manchester’s Chinatown district when I’m tucking into my salt and pepper ribs I think to myself that we delivered these. Incidentally, it’s very difficult to obtain an export licence for selling food to China. There are only three cold stores in the country with a Chinese export licence.

Graham funny how something like spare ribs jogs the memory of a job we used to do years ago that being loading big pallet boxes of pork sides (Malton Bacon) and taking them down into France, they wanted the fatty meat for garlic sausage making then we used to reload same place with the ribs, remember drops in Birmingham and Manchester for IIRC wing yip, wang yip and similar names, the French woman who coordinated the loads lived here in England and always said to me if you come to Manchester I will take you to a restaurant for an unforgettable feast, never did get there but that’s another story and long gone water under the bridge, Buzzer

Buzzer 100% correct i used to deliver to [wing yip] also if i remember right you had to back up to the LIVERPOOL ONE.
And as for pork we /i the company i worked for used to load at PILGRIMS BANHAM, sow sides also a factory on the Thetford ring road pork legs on[ Christmas tree hooks ] how many drivers have had loads of them ■■? now there was a swinging load to watch ,also at PooleTruckline, if the seas were to heav, they would not take you if you had either load…

Ido not eat pies, a return load from POLAND WAS" FROZEN PORK BACKS 1990"for the manufacture of pies in the west country…sorry i got carried away .keep your Chinese, the company i worked for were the first haulage firm for NOON PRODUCTS delivery for Iceland i expect it was and is 100% clean but the smell for me was too much…that was the first place i watched a lady make a cup of tea in a microwave i could not believe it , look at us now cooped up like chickens all because of the Chinese…

Balders hope you and yours all ok, IMHO I think this Covid19 will spell the end of the EU all the borders in lockdown and are individual countries once again not a united family as one at all, each for there own. Italy & Spain who have had it bad are not going to find it easy to forgive the big hitters in Brussels, lets hope so then when this is all over we can GEL ON and get back to normality of some sort.
Got some special runner bean seeds from a mate who is a big grower for Riverford and he reckons they are the bizz so need to get them in pots PDQ, also got me spuds chitting and they need to go in also but until the last week its been far too wet but looking set fair now so need to get me arse in gear, Buzzer

I think the EU are showing their true colours Buzzer. I’m lucky that i’m still working but my partner who works for the same company was made redundant monday , that’s a small price to pay compared with some but the manner in which it has been done is poor. Economy wise when this does come to an end will be interesting , lets hope as few people as possible have to pay the ultimate price . On a lighter note 3 weeks without a pint is taking its toll ,i’m shaking more than usual but my horlicks tastes good , keep safe and take care

Weekend RDC Load totals update.

Saturday was identical to last Saturday.

Today is well up on last Sunday, so the supermarkets must be expecting plenty of shoppers tomorrow. I hope that everyone is taking their one hour daily exercise to burn off all this food they’re eating. My place is next to a public footpath… I’ve never seen as many dogs being taken for walks. :astonished: :astonished:

I would guess half the population are getting fitter, and t`other half are getting fatter.
(And some much more psissed!)

I wonder how many marriages are suffering…

All this makes very interesting reading - giving a pretty recognizable synopsis of what’s happening around here. I live within 50 yards of a Chinese takeaway, and have done for nearly thirty years. The owners are now firm family friends and we’ve had brief chats over the last two weeks about the whole Covid19 scenario. The owner is relatively sanguine about it all - the property is owned, the family ‘live over the shop’ so to speak, so know they can recover from this when the all-clear is sounded on social mobility.

With regard to the cuisine offered, thanks to my son’s recent 12-month spell in China we already know that what our neighbour serves is light-years away from the native cultural offerings in China itself. In fact, it was his second port of call to sample what he says is 100% better than anything he ate in China. That, is the root cause of all this - in terms of cross-contamination between species in provincial wet markets. That is a phenomenon which deserves all the exposure it’s had in recent months (and more - much more…) to educate the entire planet about what verges on sub-human culture in terms of how those people treat animals in China. With that treatment, there is also a certain arrogance about the people in China - which prevents them from even considering that their cultural beliefs with regard to food, treatment of animals and even their traditional health treatments (see where these things kinda merge?) are just plain WRONG. And I mean wrong scientifically, ethically and morally. China as a nation, a culture and a body of people have a long way to go to recover from this.

My neighbour is a humble man, as are the rest of his family. They are kind, considerate people and after discussing the overall situation with him, he was pretty frank about where he sees China as a culture. He’s ashamed. And I find that really sad. I feel sorry for him to have to carry that burden for something he sees as wrong - and he knows that most of his customers and neighbours do. Difficult times.

I have a neighbour who hasn’t got a garden and is doing mine witch he enjoys but also He and his wife are a very caring couple and will do shopping etc as I’m Isolated for 12 weeks but in our village we have a neighbour hood watch organisation which will do all types of things like shopping and all manner of things that are important to many of the villagers. My late wife was a midwife and was a dedicated person to the people she nursed which as as we now know about the nurses who are dedicated to their profession and have lost their lives with small chidren, looking after their patients. What a terrible situation we are in.We don’t know half of what is going on behind the scenes like what is going on how they get the goods like hospital reqirements and making sure these greedy ■■■■■■■■ are able to wipe their backsides with the proper paper instead of the Daily Mirror and the like." Our thoughts and prayers are with you" is this a genuine start to an anouncement of the report of the current news of this terrible disease. If I’ve offended anyone then I am sorry

I see they have just announced that Boris Johnson is in intensive care !

Watching the report by Fergus Walsh on the BBC News last evening about an ICU at a London Hospital coping with Covid-19 patients and it really struck home to me what a horrible and deadly illness this really is for those seriously ill. I, like others, have seen reports from such as Italy showing similar scenes in Italian hospitals, but probably because this is happening in our own country the scenes shown somehow had more resonance with me. Mention must be made of the sheer dedication and professionalism shown by the doctors and nurses treating these very unfortunate patients. it must be heart breaking for them knowing that they have no cure they can give. Ladies and gentlemen, I salute you.

Purely from a layman’s perspective some thoughts occurred to me. Firstly the sheer numbers of doctors and nurses working on that ICU, the patients do seem to require constant monitoring and it is a massive team effort to care for them.
Secondly, the random nature of this very strange virus. I fully understand that the older a person is then the more susceptible they are to the virus if they catch it. And of course those with underlying health problems who are weaker are vulnerable. But it certainly appears that whoever catches it is vulnerable to a greater or lesser extent, and the outcome is totally unpredictable.

Yes Graham, it was a real ‘eye opener’ to many folk I guess? Apparently, according to my wife, they have to change their PPE for every patient, sometimes twenty times a day on a 12 hour shift, so small wonder that stocks are depleted faster than supply can keep up with!

Pete.

The nurses and doctors etc are doing an amazing job like you say Graham and should get double/treble pay as a reward in my opinion.

WARNING RANT :imp:

The way different people get paid is beyond a joke in this country with regard to normal people and sports people.

There is a footballer at Manchester United apparently earning £290,000 a f–king week ! Bloody discusting in my opinion.
Plus he will be getting extra for sponsor ship deals etc.

I did a quick search on line this morning for the average nurses wage and it said about £31,000 .(I dont know how accurate
that is ,could be higher or lower ■■ )

That means when you divide the foot ballers wage 290,000 divided by 31,000 = 9.35

That means the average nurse has to work over 9 years to earn what that muppet earns in a week !!! :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

How the hell can that be right ,nurses are putting there lives on the line !

How can a foot baller be paid more than a doctor, surgeon, air line pilot and the Prime Minser in a week than they earn in a year ! :imp:

Andrew Marr interviewed Axel von Trotsenurg, the World Band managing director of operations on Sunday. He was making a very similar point - that there will be a re-evaluation of people (and job’s) worth to society with the implication that ‘white collar workers’ will be taking a pay cut and those who ‘do’ will be paid more.

Regarding salaries I understand the administrators of NHS hospitals are equally paid ridiculous amounts-I have been told it is about a quarter of a million in the larger hospitals. Can that be right? Not to mention the really daft sums paid to radio "DJ"s and presenters by the BBC. Many of whom work as self employed to lower their tax bills.

As has been said we really need to look at NHS medical staff salaries. I do not feel the same about police salaries. The service they provide, in general, is abysmal…

Just to throw in my twopeneth, it was said some football clubs are going to put ground staff that would only be on minimum wage on the furlough scheme why cant the player’s that are now not working manup and pay the ground staff themselves to keep the ground in good condition ready for when they go back to earn there disgusting wage. They could also all put into a fund to help the NHS . the other point my daughter in law doe’s hearing test’s for the NHS she is now front line staff never been in a hospital let alone worked on a ward but how many hospital managers will be told to gown up and help on the ward’s. :imp:

It should also be remembered that Boris stated that the entire NHS debt has been cancelled in recognition of the outstanding service that it is giving in response to this virus.

In my book that provides a big chunk of cash, part of which could be used to increase salaries of all employees of the NHS.

Just a thought.

David

You’re picking out a sector of the community when all around us there are equally as rich people who could be doing exactly the same as you’re proposing. You’re aiming for the lowest hanging fruit on the tree, when you should be aiming at those running these organisations. Think of this - those footballers you’re running down could (for all you or I know) be already contributing without a single whiff of publicity. I know several who do - day-in, day-out. They ask for nothing in return because they know how their efforts will be spun against them on social media. You’ve plucked out of the air an idea of how players could contribute to a fund for the NHS. Who would setup this fund? How would it be run? How would the money be distributed across the system? Do you not think that at this moment in time the administrators in the Civil Service are already stretched to their limit coping with holding the country together? Please, please be sensible instead of leaping onto some sort of jealousy-fuelled rant again those who have riches. Not all of them are bad - and they certainly don’t all need tarring with the same brush because it might suit you.
