Somebody pulled the pin, driver dropped his trailer and ripped out the lines, be careful out there.
Loo stop or coffee break, check the pin, half a second that saves a load of grief, and maybe getting the sack.
Crane costs, late delivery or damaged goods, truck repair costs, and call out charges.

thats a few thousand too sort that out
I’d never even thought about someone doing this for a ‘larff’ until it was mentioned in a previous thread. Would it just be a scallywag doing this or another driver? If it’s the latter…then why in the ■■■■ would they do that? Could end nastily for someone!
Also this was done to one of our drivers at Sedgemoor services near Burnham M5, he went in to buy a sarnie came out and there was a supermarket lorry parked really close to the wagon when lots of other spaces were empty thought that’s a bit suspect looked at his pin and it was pulled anyway confronted driver who denied all knowledge and didn’t see anyone tampering, cctv didn’t show anything either unfortunately.
I’ve always been into the habit of checking it without fail it’s a good habit to get into. Had me legs lowered at Farthing Corner years ago one night which I spotted the following morning.
we have a poster up on the wall at work warning us to check the pin after leaving vehicle unattended even for the shortest time.
oh and it also says that if we dont and we lose the trailer disciplinery action will follow…so its our fault if someone pulls the pin because we didnt check.
I bet the stobart minions have to check that their pin hasnt been pulled when they have been parked up,no matter what firm it is its shocking if somebody does pull the pin
I’d never dream of doing that to another driver for any reason, no matter how much he might have ■■■■■■ me off. I’d probably only go as far a pulling their trailer park brake on.
You might think that “I’d notice if I stated to pull away, and felt the cab slipping forward against the plate”…
What happens if you parked slightly uphill though…?
The trailer starts rolling backwards - the moment you let the brake off… The cab didn’t even have to move forward at all, and you’ve got a backward-rolling trailer that could smash through vehicles, walls, and pedestrians nearby. Real Nasty!
In 2008 I went to couple under a trailer left for me in Milton Keynes, the driver who left it there long gone…
Moved under it, lifted it up on the suspension as I do… The bugger started rolling backwards off my plate! The blue button had been pushed in for “shunt”, and it was downhill behind the trailer for about 20 feet - followed by a brick wall… The trailer fell onto it’s legs with about 2 feet to spare luckily…
If I found anyone pulling my pin as a “joke” therefore, he could “expect a punch” as the pope might say. I won’t be ‘pulling’ those either.
Punches don’t ‘pour’ - they ‘rain’.
use to happen regular when trailers came off the ferry (rolling away) you learn to deal with it I guess.
as for pulling the pin - only times I have known anything like this happen is to the picket line crossers etc. which to me is still a step too far.

Shouldn’t need a crane unless the driver didn’t wind the legs all the way up and they bent. Shove the winding handle in low gear and do the wind of shame for 10-15 minutes.

It’s a right ■■■■■ trick and no mistake
Always check it’s not been pulled, even in the yard if it’s been left just for a minute.
Always been taught to check pin and walk round to make sure its still safe and legal. But some drivers will do it just for the sake of it seen it happen to stobart trucks but a think thats because its stobart.I had my pin pulled on the A9 in a layby maybe 2 month ago.Noticed it when doing my check and also handbreak was on aswell so they wanted my to drop the fridge on its nose some people do not care.

chances are it’s another driver with either a nasty sense of humour or holds a grudge against the driver or the firm.
remember if you cant see it check it

A bit touchy pal,it wasnt a dig at esl at all if thats what you are getting at…i once saw the trucks and trls prog on ch5 and the dixon fella checked his pin when doing his checks and mentioned them getting pulled.
Not touchy at all. Just seems you have to mention stobart in nearly every thread.
often wondered, for drivers who are not swapping trailers every few minutes, isn’t it worth exchanging the dog clip for a padlock?
Ceryainly for those tramping all week it isn’t any hardship to do this.
