Corley Msa, warning , Phantom Pin Puller

toby1234abc:
Somebody pulled the pin, driver dropped his trailer and ripped out the lines, be careful out there…

Bitter tesco driver type tactics…:imp:

del949:
isn’t it worth exchanging the dog clip for a padlock?

Good idea, never thought of that:)

Crane costs, late delivery or damaged goods, truck repair costs, and call out charges.

thats a few thousand too sort that out

Shouldn’t need a crane unless the driver didn’t wind the legs all the way up and they bent. Shove the winding handle in low gear and do the wind of shame for 10-15 minutes.

Wasnt that a song in the 80s by the scorpions ? :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah the winds of change lol

xamtex:
we have a poster up on the wall at work warning us to check the pin after leaving vehicle unattended even for the shortest time.
oh and it also says that if we dont and we lose the trailer disciplinery action will follow…so its our fault if someone pulls the pin because we didnt check.

As it bloody well should. You are responsible for that, regardless of a “phantom pin puller”. It’s just not that difficult or time consuming to check!

I agree this utopia where no one should touch your trailer or wagon would be brilliant. But it doesn’t exist, so protect yourself, and check it!

Shocking it’s never something that’s occurred to me that some pos would stoop that low. Something ill definitely check from now on.

Serious question?
Say if this were to happen, the pin has been pulled on return. Would simply putting it back in place suffice or would you need to put the brake on pull forward slightly and reverse again to lock it back in?

del949:
often wondered, for drivers who are not swapping trailers every few minutes, isn’t it worth exchanging the dog clip for a padlock?
Ceryainly for those tramping all week it isn’t any hardship to do this.

Has there been a padlock made that has a beeper (or similar) that sounds if/when it’s been opened??

There are alarmed padlocks but they are motion triggered which could prove a real pita.

Some of the newer DAF’s I drive don’t even have a safety chain [emoji53] just a blinking light to say it’s locked in.

Me personally I would put trailer park brake on and possibly release red airline pull forward a foot then couple up so I can hear the double click.

When I was on for Stobart some years ago and the trouble at Middlewich I was advised to check pin EVERY time I returned to vehicle. I do it now every time I’m away from truck out of habit - takes 2 seconds for a quick look and also fifth wheel movement pin

Or if you drive a MAN or DAF, wind the legs down and disconnect all your Susies. Trying to move forward a foot in one of these will usually end up about 10ft, resulting in your trailer on its nose and snapped Susies.[emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1]

Not if you select Dm(MAN)

  I drive MAN and know exactly what you mean  Gentle as they go, ballache coupling a fully loaded trailer though :unamused:

Maybe the phantom pin puller has a limp ?

I bet the stobart minions have to check that their pin hasnt been pulled when they have been parked up,no matter what firm it is its shocking if somebody does pull the pin :open_mouth:

You really do have a chip on your shoulder don’t you?

A bit touchy pal,it wasnt a dig at esl at all if thats what you are getting at…i once saw the trucks and trls prog on ch5 and the dixon fella checked his pin when doing his checks and mentioned them getting pulled.

Sounds like a great idea to me, wonder if VOSA would do you for no dog clip though.
Could attach padlock to dog clip chain.

I would reccomend applying trailer brake pulling forward a few inches then hitting pin again as a minimum, tug testing of course.
I would drop the legs also and may even remove airlines and reconnect and treat as a trailer drop and swap. Who knows what else the oxygen stealer hss messed with so for peice of mind and the sake of a few minutes its good to treat as a fresh pick up.

In this weird world always remember theres more nutters out there than locked away. When out and about with loved ones I look for possible nutters all the time, these buggers tend to sneak up on you though so always pay attention to your surroundings and eye up weapon locations, exits and areas of advantage for confruntation purposes, always carry a pen as this can be a devestating weapon in the right hands… But maybe im being paranoid…

Good advice. I do that, after all when confronted by a homicidal nutter it’s important to be able to quickly write down a strongly worded letter to the health minister, or even (if you’re quick) write NUTTER in big letters on his forehead. Obviously you need to write it backwards so when he looks in the mirror he’s constantly reminded of just what he is.
