Its is strange how the Brit drivers do not do this,i know they may swap over trailers with change overs, where as our continental cousins have the same trailer all year round.
They are good cooks, and are the first to offer what they are cooking up when you pass by and take an interest.
The Turks seem to be hospitable, and have churns for their tea urns.In the 90`s,i would see the Spanish and Portuguese knock out four course meals, while we were spending a small fortune in restaurants.
i always cook in the trailer when Im in the UK, partly because the food over there is rank and partly because its too expensive. In Spain there is little point as a 3 course menu del dia with wine can still be had for as little as 8.50 euros, tho the average is now about 10 euros.
when i got my first job i met an old hand at the tankwash in purfleet, i was tucking into sandwiches he had been in the cafe, steak and chips. he told me something which i’ve remembered and tried to stick to since “if you can’t afford to buy a hot meal you are in the wrong job”
i rarely cook in or at the motor, but always keep the emergency supplies, just for those times when you can get caught out.
got to agree, alot of the foreign lads, regardless of where they are from, always seem to be very hospitable, if you give em a nod or say hello. was at ctm’s madrid, just before christmas, was getting ready to leave and head up the road on the sunday evening. parked next me was a spanish truck, young fella and his bird, preparing there dinner down the side of the trailer. thought i’d be decent and give em some warning that i’d be away in half hour, as i didn’t want to cover their grub in exhaust fumes. the guy said thanks, and offered me the chance to join them for dinner before i set off. top lad i thought.
I’ve just had spag bol for starters followed by pork hock? (codillo) with potatoes and veg then pudding, bottle of red wine and a bottle of casera (like lemonade) all for 8 euro. if you can’t afford that you’re definitely in the wrong job.
I’d rather pay that then sit at the side of my trailer like some scabby romanian

so, when you’re at home, do you also go knocking on the doors of your neighbours at dinnertime, telling them to use the nearest restaurant or get a new job?
I don’t think I should feel obligated to eat at a restaurant every night as I don’t like eating alone and the culinary experience is sometimes less than one would expect. take barbezieux for example and their battery-acid tasting “wine”.
When in the Iberian Peninsula,i would find that if you head to a fishing port and docks,i would find a very cheap restaurant for the workers, maybe about 100 people in there, sometimes the noise of the loud conversation was deafening,as they tend to speak more vocaly over there.
There are good Rouitiers in Boulogne,Northern France, but if you are parked inside the ferry terminal, the security do no let any drivers walk out of the port.
Park anywhere along by the frozen food depot`s.Calvados and a coffee Cognac is law,or three points on the licence in France.3 hour lunch breaks were quite normal, not sure how the long haulers got to where they were going to on time.

Does that count if you live in a house too? Should you be able to afford take aways and resteraunts every day?
Should read the whole lot before I post. Milodon beat me to it. Don’t get this ‘you should be able to eat out’ mentality. I find life much more relaxing when you have no pressure on where to park up. Plus I eat more healthily. Plus half the stuff served up in these ‘restaurants’ is crap, cheap tarted up crap. Besides you wanna try doing UK work for extended periods of time and eating out, not sure which would come first, heart attack or suicide.

you’re the chef of this forum luke so you’re the one who spends most time cooking and i do believe we’ve done this subject to death before and you actually spend more money per week than i do but each to their own, you cook in the cab and from what i’ve seen it on your videos it looks good, but your not the type to be parked in a routier abusing the free parking whilst sat at the side of the trailer and the floor stinking of ■■■■ like the plastic russians and the portugese.
as for the house scenario you and milodon are asking a really daft question, of course we don’t go out to restaurants all the time because home cooked food and meals with the family are the best but that’s a long way off the trailer rats isn’t it?
i’ll stick to my view that trailer cooking is for the tramps in life and showering and eating daily in a routier or spanish hotel is for the more “upmarket” driver

no, when you’re at home do you continue wearing flipflops and socks, ■■■■■■■ in plastic bottles and getting drunk like other “former communist state” drivers

but i bet you feel obligated to park outside a restaurant for free in a space that could be used by a paying customer whilst eating from the trailer box
If you gonna sit there in a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ then have the right attitude and go in there and eat for the sake of about 13 euro why sit in the back of the trailer or in the cab and cook■■?
I know Ben at Carbon Blanc will not let the teliban in the car park and if you park there and dont eat in there he will make sure you leave the parking area lol thats the right attitude to have.
i have stopped at barbizieux a couple of times and never had a problem there with the food or drink. End of the day if you dont like it dont stop there at least the parking is free over there and the showers etc are iin good condition

Sitting with milodon eating in a river of pee or sitting in a fine restaurant with the likes of you? I would sit outside with someone less odious, your posts always end up with this vileness against the majority of other Europeans. You moved to another country, as did I, please learn some respect for other cultures, your truck related information you give in posts is informative, interesting, but this bile towards other parts of the world is so needless. People should be able to go about their business without having to worry about people trying to stir up hatred everywhere.
I would always eat at restaurants in Poland, food is always cooked to order, I can afford it. Certainly food on motorways in Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia is superb. To be honest I can’t afford to eat in the west very often and the quality of food is hit and miss, its all about disposable income to the likes of us in the east, it just does not add up to eat out in the west on a daily basis.

Indeed so we have had this argument before! And yes I probably could eat out for less than I spend on food.
But the house thing isn’t so daft. We live in trucks. It is home, for weeks or in my case months at a time. I hope I’ve proved you can cook in the lorry and eat well. Can’t say I find the idea of cooking in a trailer box all that attractive but then a lot say that about cooking in the trundlewagon cab. I suppose what I like most about it is the freedom. No matter what happens or where I am I always eat well, from the times last winter when I was parked on the hard shoulder in France and Belgium by the Police or when you run out of hours when you hit unexpected delays. I always have a full fridge and a full cooked dinner. And it’s nice being tucked up cosy in your lorry cooking and eating in the depths of winter. Not to mention drinking wine.
I’ve met a few chaps like you and good on you to be fair each to their own but most of them, and I’m not saying your like this, don’t carry a scrap of food in the cab! I couldn’t cope with that. When my fridge is empty the first port of call is the supermarket, before anything else gets done.

I have a fridge in the truck with yoghurts for breakfast and milk for cereal, also butter for sandwiches so i can eat if I’m stuck

I have respect for other cultures but I don’t see how eastern european culture can be defined by the way that their drivers behave. in my experience poles and slovaks, romanians and bulgarians all let their countries down by the way they dress, smell, work and eat. i have a bigoted view of them because i have experienced losing my job to a pole who worked for half my wages and because of that i couldn’t pay my mortgage so i sold up and got out. my bigoted views are allowed as long as we still live in a free world and as long as i don’t break the forum rules, if you don’t like my posts don’t read them

I have to disagree on most of that regarding, well most of it. I drive in the UK on Polish plates, had a few people become a tad aggressive, not sure i would tar the whole of Britain with their actions. I will continue to read your posts as they are generally informative and now I have a better understanding why you go off a lot of the time about half of Europe.
so now you understand why i’m a bigot you’re going to continue reading, well you can’t argue with that logic
I’m sure there are really nice poles, romanians, bulgarians and the like but i can only speak as i find, and of course i believe too much that is spread by the media
the latest bit i heard was about the romanians in northern ireland selling the big issue, now they are undercutting or job stealing off the homeless
Ever been to Poland Welshboy? I have, lots of times. Everywhere I went, the people were brilliant towards me. Every shop/garage/bakery/ truckstop. Extraordinarily nice people. The one’s parked in Autohof’s in Germany,
knocked my door when weekended. And offered me piping hot stew when it was -30 outside. How many people from the UK would do that?
I was invited by Drew 128 via this website to visit him if I was ever in Poland. Last year I did just that. To be made welcome by total strangers, had home made jam given to me. Had tea and be taken to a fabulous restaurant and have the most delicious ice cream…All gratis. Gimme the Poles any day. Good luck with your dislike.

no I haven’t thats why I said my bigoted views are based on my experiences of eastern europeans I’ve met on the road not just poles, in fact if I’m honest the poles are probably the best of the bunch that used to be communists and are now european. I find the romanians and bulgarians to be the worst.
I also said there probably are plenty of decent ones but I’ve never met any.
besides vern shouldn’t you be playing that fishing boat game thing on facebook
