Container question (curiosity)

Simple and straightforward one
Why do containers not have flat sides?

Instead of the ribbed ones, probably to do with longevity of the unit, with ribs they will only get partially damaged, with a flat side possibly more damage and more expensive to repair, plus they have to meet a certain standard i believe.

it’s probably stronger structurally

it’s probably stronger structurally

^ This would be my thought.

And these people are let loose with 44tonne,

Strength!

think about when they are stacked, the one on the bottom has some mega weight on it

hold a piece of paper on its side and push down on it, then fold ribs in it and try it!

Structural strength… but that leads me to another question. Why do reefer containers then have flat sides? Something to do with the thickness of insulation needed?

Yes because we are drivers and not structural engineers hence CURIOSITY rather than essential information :unamused:

They will probably be built similar but as you say with added insulation

Did anybody see the irish fella on grand designs who made a house out of 3 x 40 ft containers,it was bang on :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

And so they are. But what did you see in the posters question that questioned his ability to drive?

I think he could be a good driver,as long as he stays behind me :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Same reason cabs have indented back plates, stops drumming and adds to integral strength.

And there I was thinking you had something constructive to say about container design.

Look, he can do exclamation marks too.
