12-9 isn’t too bad so far as backshift goes, but it depends on your personal circumstances. Will you see your Mrs and kids? Are you single and hoping to change that? No way I would do it over the weekend personally, social suicide. But then again I wouldn’t do permanent weekends in any capacity.
It depends on various factors such as your personal situation, how good the money is, etc. I personally quite like working weekends, as the money is normally better, traffic quieter and it gives me time off during the week which is more useful for going to the shops, making appointments, etc. My daughter is 2, so time off during the week is as good as weekends, but this will obviously change when she starts school.

Not really happy with them to be honest, iam single and would like to change this, that is what worries me about taking the job, would be leaving the house before 11 am and getting back just before 10pm (assuming no overtime and hold ups)

that’s not a job, it’s a life sentence.
The money would have to be really good.
£9.65 basic
+25% overtime and beteween 22.00and 06.00 (which i would not be on)
if i took it would be on the basis of changing times later, but have been told might be possible but dont take job on that basis as they cant gurantee it.
I don’t mind working Saturdays now and then but going to work on a Saturday lunch time would soul destroy me.
Iv done the whole weekend tramping and it ain’t for me personally.
Iv always looked at weekends as overtime not part of the working week.

There is part of me that thinks i should take it becuase its a large company (Tesco) and another that knows on those shifts you would not have a life apart from the 2 days off during the week, when most other people work.
I used to do 1030-2130 Mon - Fri, and it wasn’t terrible, but I don’t work weekends

Could be perfect. Get home 10pm, quick shower and changed, out for 20 past, cheap night out and girls already got their beer goggles on

If it were rolling shifts it wouldn’t be too bad but constant weekends must really take it out of a blokes life.
My last firm had a job that involved a full day on a Saturday so instead of asking the 25 drivers it had to do it on a rota they set a bloke on working permanent Friday to Tuesday.
Drivers would last roughly 6-8 weeks on average doing them shifts before they left.
In the end they found a bloke who wanted them shifts but he was one of these fellas that didn’t seem to want a life outside work and always worked extra shifts where possible.
I’m sure tesco drivers will be along in 2 mins too tell you what a wonderfull job it is
But
Where does the 12-9 ( including 40 mins each way traveling ) come from ,that a apx 7 1/2 hr shift ,now tesco recently ( working for tesco) had a advert on our memo board and the shifts were 6-12 hrs ,now I’ve no doubt you’ll do short shifts but what happens the night you do the 12 hr shift ,12-00.00 + 1 1/2 hrs travelling ,13 1/2 hr shift
I don’t work for tesco but have done loads of there shop deliveries and i ve been sat from 7 pm- 11 pm staring at a set of yard gates as they’ve no room for the stock, there deaf can here a bell, phone number is discontinued ,no staff, night shift doesn’t start until 10 p.m etc,etc etc
I spent 3 hrs yesterday waiting for a backhaul,I should of been back for 2 nd run at 5 p.m,got back 7 .30 pm ,by the time I got done it was a 14 1/2 hr shift, start 11 a.m ,finish 1.30 a.m ,2 nd run again staring at gates,10 rings of bell ,phone calls ,apparently he was in shop, didn’t hear bell,no-one told him I was there .
It baffles the hell out of me ,seemingly it never goes wrong for tesco drivers ,they never have to wait, the push the bell, door immediately opens ,they don’t get there too find 2 double deckers already there .
Actually I’ve probally answered my question ,if you can’t beat them, join them
12 til 9 and every weekend day…? They’d have to be paying top, top money for that to be a viable pattern and even then it’s going to become too much for most people after a while.
Could you earn similar money and avoid the constant weekends?
Answer is , yes of course.
To me, that means it’s a no no.
You’d need to be paying 15-20/hour to tempt most folk to permanent weekends. Even then, I wouldn’t do it, even though I like working weekends. Too little flexibility for my taste.
if your single / with partner working shifts /no kids etc then what’s a weekend ■■ its just 2 days off that’s how I look at it, as there’s things I can do mid week that I cant get done sat sun

Wondering what the general consensus is on if you were offered a job but was constant weekends and constant backshift.
i.e. starting at 12 finishing at 9. (this includes tacho), travel to depot about 40 mins each way.
This is a wee bit of an add on to a previous post, just i now have the start/finish time.
Why would you want to work every weekend, backshift & be on a vastly inferior rate to the drivers who are already employed ?
Why not drive 15 miles down the M8,get paid a £31.5 grand salary for a 48 hr average week doing basically the same job ?
Sorry, should add its 1 weekend in 3 off.

That’s the problem I had. I did it for well over a year but eventually you realise that you have no social life. I got into a new hobby this year and it wasn’t compatible so for once I put work 2nd and jacked it. I still have no social life but I am less annoyed because the option is there rather than being duty bound to sacrifice it
