Compulsory masks

Can you habitual mask wearers explain something to me.
If you are wearing your mask,.and believe it is protecting you from whatver…
Why do you still feel threatened when you meet someone who chooses not to wear one?

I was coming out of the khazi at Cullompton msa this morning,.I went to open the door and was conftonted by Mr Maskedman who opened it first.
The look of shear terror in his eyes was unreal, then he went on to do one of those jump 2 steps back country dance things you all do now when someone approaches you within 3 yards. :unamused: [emoji38] …as if I was some kind of rabid leper outcast that he had met. :unamused:
I would have thought that his ‘mode of protection’ would provide him with some sort of comfort shield .

A classic mixture of brainwash and paranoia in this guys case,.
I reckon if I felt the need to go about my daily life like that, I’d never leave the [zb] house. [emoji38]

We have to learn to live with all this crap, it ain’t going away anytime soon
I just try and live as normal life as possible, with the exception of foreign holidays for a while, as I can think of nothing worse than sitting around a pool getting paranoia vibes from people like him in his mask on his [zb] sun lounger :unamused:
It would just do my head in.

Ffs Rob…how can you argue for or against when you still haven’t grasped what the mask is for?

Wasn’t arguing mate,.and I’m fully aware of what the mask is for, whether for fact belief or personal perception…but thanks anyway. (Ffs  )
I was merely questioning the mind set of those who believe the mask is protecting them (as well as others) but still get in a flap.if the approach those who don’t wear them.

Franglais:
Face masks do a fair job of stopping lots of the water droplets we breath out that could contain the Covid virus.
They aren`t so good at stopping any smaller droplets out there that might contain virus, we breathe in.
.

robroy:
If you are wearing your mask,.and believe it is protecting you from whatver…

Mask wearing is much more about protecting others than protecting ourselves.
.
It does help to protect the wearer, a bit, but like all the recommended measures, is not a simple 100% cure.
Mask wearing, hand disinfection, distancing, all help a little and are (for most of us) no real hardship.
.

Since you know nothing about his health, or the health of those he may be with, you are making judgment on the basis of zero relevant information. Making judgment without knowing basic facts has a name…bit since Ive already been far too brave with my keyboard Ill leave it to others to explain that to you.

So do I.
When I am in rainy November UK I behave in a certain way, normally involving raincoats. Not much call for war-paint.
When I am in strong summer sun, I wear sun block. I dont take the ■■■■ out of Aussies or cricketers wearing zinc cream. . 5 years ago I lived in a world where there was no Covid. I didnt wear a mask because it wasn`t needed.
Today I live in a world where there is Covid, so I do wear masks.

So “learn to live with this crap”, pretending it isnt there aint learning anything.

I bow to your vast expertise in this field mate.

You’re quite aware what it’s for?

Yet your comment about believing it is protecting ME from whatever belie that fact

Well, since you asked for an explanation of face mask wearing on TNUK, who did you expect to respond to you? A Professor of respiratory disease infections?
.

Since some don`t beyond the first few lines, a summary first:

“several personal protective and social measures, including handwashing, mask wearing, and physical distancing are associated with reductions in the incidence covid-19.”

bmj.com/content/375/bmj-2021-068302

This is a meta-analysis published, this Oct in the BMJ.
It combines 72 different studies, does some very clever stuff with the data, but it is all there via the links so everyone can see what is being done.

There is no sleight of hand, out of sight. There is no "trust me, Im an expert". It is not a priesthood telling some truth only they understand. Maybe we cant all follow all the steps taken, but it is all there to be examined and critiqued.
Contrast this method with those who sit on YouTube, telling us that what they studied 50years ago is more trustworthy somehow. How they have a unique way to see through the nonsense, without ever showing their raw data, methodologies, etc.

Please follow the links and read the summaries. Don`t “take my word for it”.

It isn`t some “belief” system where the most genial uncle or Grandad on YouTube or “bloke in the pub” is the one to follow, it is a report showing lots of “things”:
Real “things”, that have been seen. Data that has been observed and put together.
It shows when (for instance) masks are worn infection rates fall. This is not some mere “belief” any more than saying that “Driving at 100mph uses more fuel than driving at 50mph”. We can see the evidence, understand how and why, and so say it is reasonable to accept it as fact.

Would probably be a waste of our time, because…
you`ve already decided…

You should really get out more Frangy me old mate,.and/or get some interests/hobbies to put your spare time in.

You seem to be having such a good argument with YOURSELF mate, I neither said you did, nor care if you do or don’t.

As for your last comment,…that goes without saying being that you’ve spent half your life dealing with the Police…

Yep, you sure had me fooled.
Again. More fool me.

Just for a moment I thought you were genuinely asking a question.
It occurred you might not just be bored and trolling for reactions. I was mug enough to believe you might actually be interested in summat apart from promoting your own image of yourself, but, hey, what a mug I am, actually thinking you wanted to find out about something.
Silly-Billy, me.

Brilliant sense of humour you got there.
Well done.

Sarcasm on sarcasm! The indignity!!

Why is the doctor wearing the mask dumbass?

I asked why you guys who wear masks…well you know what I asked.
I just found it ironic this guy masked up to the eyeballs (literally) and he still saw me as a threat to his health despite the fact.
Not trolling, not bored, not joking, just found it a bit ironic and amusing that’s all.

Just to add a little spice on the mask subject I was listening to a foreign doctor last week who as Rob says we are going to have to live with this virus for a long time.
According to him that means helping protect each other by mask wearing social distancing and all else that prevents the virus spreading.
He also reckons mask wearing will become mandatory in certain places and that will be the new normal for the foreseeable future in most countries including the UK.

That may cause a few problems here and there.

It may well cause problems:
People will be dropping like flies as they suffocate.
There will be many getting “dentist`s lung”, that disease caused by wearing masks that kills dental surgeons at 45.
Poor lorry drivers will be suffering from “irony overdose” as they see others mask wearing.

The lack of personal freedom to the whole population, not to be able to breathe virus laden gob onto door handles and other people`s faces is awful. How will we ever keep going?

Wear a mask? Oh, swoon…I feel faint at the threat to myself!

Anybody heard about the latest variant?
Apparently it’s on its way. :open_mouth:

Ed.
That was meant as a response to Jake liking the RR/Fr double act.
Could it be a response to the new variant too! :open_mouth:

Dont worry about the masks - may as well go round coughing in each others face

Nothing to do with masks that there was no flu and very little colds last winter or is there a strange conspiracy theory for that one too.
