I think the issue is largely what people believe the purpose of these masks are.
They aren’t intended to be a complete protection from the disease in the way a military respirator will protect you in a CBRN environment. They are simply to reduce or mitigate the risk of transmission.
They are a simple, cheap and relatively convenient way of mitigating transmission rates in a way that the more expensive and technical protective measures arent

I had a whats app vid of a specialist spray painter guy who had two types of masks on, the particles of chemical and paint came through both of them.
So you can send me as many links as you like,.I ain’t having it that a cheap crappy little flimsy mask is going to stop a microscopic virus getting through it…or by it’s very design around it.
As I said filter the bull crap out from the facts…a bit more than a mask is going to filter out at least.
Given that Covid molecules tend to travel attached to spittle, snot etc, that’s what the mask stops. Of course SOME will pass through… and most won’t.
Hence the term mitigate.

Ok but as I’ve said to the forum gob ■■■■■ about all this stuff in other threads…
Unless you are a medically trained virologist, or some kind of scientist in this field you know as much or as little as I do about this, but choose what or what not to believe.
Hence the term ‘Hearsay’.

So, if they don’t, you’ve been moderately inconvenienced.
If they do, you may not have infected someone.
I don’t grasp the big issue here. I’d rather wear a mask - whether it works or not - if it prevents a further lockdown.
I can see the point of a song and dance over something of consequence. If they were claiming that dipping your scrotum in a vat of boiling water helped mitigate transmission I’d be with you.
But mask wearing? Right or wrong it costs me nothing. If people prefer to wear them, crack on.
Me personally I can’t recall the last time I had one on

That is one of the most stupidest admissions I have ever heard.

I take my last statement back… THAT is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard after all.
Nothing like conjuring up some ridiculous worst case scenario to hammer home a point eh?

So wtf are you going on about it all for exactly then ■■

Nicely rational post there.
Wtf am I on about?
I’m not currently obliged to wear a mask…but have no issue if that changes. My point is the hysterical reaction against those that do.
‘‘HYSTERICAL reaction’’■■
Nothing tricky, but a slight exaggeration maybe.
No hysteria here mate, is this the ‘‘Fit me up’’ routine?
Old habits die hard or what?

It isn`t just a theory based on the idea of what might be happening.
To save clicking on the links yourself here is an extract:
"A study involving more than 340,000 people in Bangladesh offers some of the strongest real-world evidence yet that mask use can help communities slow the spread of Covid-19.
The research, conducted across 600 villages in rural Bangladesh, is the largest randomized trial to demonstrate the effectiveness of surgical masks, in particular, to curb transmission of the coronavirus. Though previous, smaller studies in laboratories and hospitals have shown that masks can help prevent the spread of Covid, the new findings demonstrate that efficacy in the real world — and on an enormous scale."

He will also invite donations “to keep truth alive” and suggest you buy his many books.
There are good explanations of what is happening, as Monkey says, the tiny virus exists and is transmitted on water droplets, the idea that a mask helps stop that is proven by studies…real studies in the real world….
Does a mask stop every drop of water? No.
Does that make it useless? No.
Nothing is perfect. That doesnt mean we should ignore the useful, because we dont have the perfect.
As of Jan 4th 2022 all employees who work for a company with 100 or more employees will have to be vaccinated or tested every week to continue to work there here in the US.

The drama continues.
I tipped at Jacob’s/Dowe Egberts Banbury on Sat morning, which was quiet.
The guy who tipped me asked me if I had been asked by security if I had been double jabbed, I hadn’t btw, but he reckoned it was coming in there soon to gain entry.
He was maybe winding me up, who knows.

Why stop at a mask? Why not insist on full PPE whenever interacting with anyone? That has also been proven to be even more effective than just a mask. In fact, include full PPE and 2m distancing whenever you interact with anyone. That would be miles better than just a mask and poor old Covid would be dead in the water…
You could even insist onnit between partners. They are after all amongst the most likely to infect you.
So what about the above? Any objection? More effective than the mask proposal for sure.

Good Idea!
The perfect solution for Drama Queens.
Just take a simple proportionate response and ramp it up to the nth degree.
What do you do for an encore? Claim a 0mph limit is much safer than a 30mph limit?
Say wearing seat belts is stupid because you aren`t wearing a crash hat and body armour?

Well yes exactly.
At what point do you stop? What is “acceptable risk”?
And why is mask wearing ok but not gloves and distancing and an apron as well?
The point is that risk is all around us.
My point here is this. Everyone has their own idea of acceptable risk. Just because yours is different to mine does not make you right and me wrong. Especially as there are many more things beyond your threshold we COULD do.
I’m happy without a mask thanks. It has served me well for 48 years. If you wish to wear one then that’s fine by me. Please do me the same courtesy.
A question asked earlier, ‘what harm will wearing a mask do?’
Firstly, restricting the each way flow of air must have a consequence. But mainly, exactly like this ‘double jabbed’ comfort blanket is duping people in to feeling safe whilst infecting all and sundry.
The double jabs lose any effectively after 12wks. There’s a government document stating so.
BBC Radio 2 16:00 news today; ‘many more double jabbed people are dying…’
Us tin hatted loonys have been screaming for a while that the jabbed are more dangerous than the un-jabbed. Surely it’s about time you started listening?
You can travel/have a meal/go to a gig/football match/get in to Jacob’ s, Banbury if you’re double jabbed, HAVE NATURAL IMMUNITY or HAVE A NEGATIVE TEST. Spot the one that is most likely to be infectious .

We didnt have C19 48 years ago... When the circumstances change, dont you think its wise to change your actions? . The "inconvenience" of wearing a mask to protect others, I find a minor inconvenience. I am not a spring chicken, but dont see myself at risk. Putting on a mask, when in an enclosed space for the sake of others, I don`t find such a chore.
Courtesy? That is what is shown to others, isn`t it?

Is there a history of surgeons, dentists, and nurses etc falling over with respiratory problems caused by wearing masks over the many years of their careers?
LazyDriver:
‘many more double jabbed people are dying…’
Since the vast majority of the UK adult population has been double vaccinated, (45m* from a total pop of 66m) including I would expect, the most elderly and at risk, it would be truly bizarre if those hospitalised and dying from C19 weren`t vaccinated.
Is it to be expected that young fit people will be more likely to refuse the jab? Those who are most at risk will take it? So, comparing the two groups is…problematic…at the least.

I’m having a little trouble actually understanding this, but as the deaths prior to this placebo had an average age of 82.5y.o. Then if I understand it right, you’re saying nothing’s changed. Which begs the question, why? What has been acheived by getting injected? Other than the willingness to sign up to a registration of the world’s population but to what end?
