Why do we not eat bulls. Forgive my ignorance I’m a city dweller.

We do eat bulls. its me forgeting to put the reason.
These would be bull calves from dairy breeds, and there is no/little market due to the time and cost it takes to get them to slaughter. The fatteners are after primarily continetal cross cattle, as they can get them to slaughter weight quicker, so make more out of each beast.
By the way, I do know why they want the tags, but I’m unlikely to put it on a open forum, am I

I wouldn’t say no market for dairy bulls ! maybe there’s too many for the market , but there’s a lot of dairy bred bulls going into the food chain ! ( think McD etc )
as for the tags, can’t think of any reason why he’d want them
I actually have no idea why, but i’m starting to think i shouldn’t have said that
Are you sure it,s dead Colin?: If so R.I.P The Hat.
Here,s a reminder.
We have a job at the pig abbatoir just outside Bristol (near the rail oil terminal next to the M4), we go in and fill our tanks with the liquid from the pigs intestines to be shipped off to Scandinavia to be turned into anaesthetic.
Being there when they are bringing in the pigs on wagons can be quite harrowing if you are a sensitive person, especially as I believe the pigs know whats going on. They are killed there by going on a ‘ferris wheel’ kind of tool where they go underground and are killed by gas.
Do a great breakfast at the canteen by the way!

We do eat “bull beef” whereby the male cattle are all killed under a certain age If I remember about 14months
After that their meat gets a tainted taste so its “off with the balls” for the vast majority of male steers
(when much younger) going for beef, then they are called “bullocks”.
Its exactly the same for pigs/lambs too.

But why do they take the tags? Why is it such a big deal?

I thought it was to do with the taste too.
Is chopping its ear off a bit like ringing a car Henry Cat?

Sort of Malc
Could this be the reason for a farmer to collect some spare ear tags?

not really, in that case tags were just swapped from an expensive animal to a cheap one
It is alleged that tag-switching has allowed farmers to send less productive cows to the abattoir in place of TB affected cattle.
