Ok, so I was going to work yesterday (in my car) on my normal route when a 26tonne fully-laden plant lorry pulled out left from an awkward T-junction about 3 cars in front - causing them & me to almost stop on the main road. He then turned right into a rat-run lane (again causing an on-coming vehicle to slow right down!!!). This surprised me as I know the lane he turned into has an 18 tonne mgw weight limit over a weak canal bridge- this is clearly signed before the rat-run. It was my route, so I followed him & he did indeed squeeze over the weak bridge, he then turned right at the end of rat-run, so I presume he knew exactly what he was doing/where he was going as this is what cars & vans normally do to avoid going round a local town. Can of worms time…should I report him to plod or not■■?
No of course you shouldn’t. If you feel the need t do something report him to his firm
I see you have a motorbike in your avatar, how would you feel if someone reported you to the old bill every time you broke the speed limit?

Are you related to ROG by any chance?
Fair points…if I can justify my thoughts, I’m fed up of going to work & other car/van drivers going over this small hump-back bridge with a kink on it out of control (too fast, on wrong side of road, I’ve even seen them airborne!!!) on an almost weekly basis. It’s a renowned accident blackspot & seeing the large truck using the short-cut and going over the bridge just annoyed me…a lot!!!
I’d never report anyone for breaching a weight limit; Look on the bright side if it really is weak he’ll get wet, if it’s not you’ll find it’s just another NIMBY limit.
It amazes me how every weak bridge has a limit to match a legal restriction ie 3t, 7.5, 18, 26 etc etc. I’ve never seen 9tonnes for example. Do they put an 18t weight on the bridge and watch it crack■■?
I think you should pull over and have a little break. This probably goes on all over the country, reporting him won’t make a blind bit of difference. He’ll come unstuck some day, or should I say he’ll get stuck
Keep calm and carry on
Daz what you’ve got to realise is that not all trucks collect/deliver to industrial warehouses/supermarkets. For example, I’m on bulk tippers and I can be sent to deliver lime to a farmer for his fields where its a 7.5 tonne limit through a little village to get to his farm. This guy as you said was a plant vehicle, he may have been delivering to an address or trying to find an address quite similar. Give him the benefit of the doubt as you may one day find yourself in a similar situation.

Have you reported any of those car & van drivers though ?

As I said in OP he was not delivering anywhere on the lane with the bridge…just using the renowned short-cut via the renowned very weak bridge. I do understand all access probs. But would he have used the route to save 10 mins. if it was a LOW bridge (that he wouldn’t fit underneath) rather than an old, weak canal bridge??

No, but I always approach bridge with excessive caution incl. sounding horn. They go soooo fast I wouldn’t be able to get Reg. No.
Is it me or is this an increasing problem with drivers encroaching onto wrong side of road under almost all circumstances - cutting corners is common place & it always seems to be down to me to take defensive/evasive action■■? Maybe I’m just getting old or more cautious?
OP mind your own he’ll get his come uppance in his own time!
CARRYON!
hopefully you’ll get to see him fall into the drink
What’s more worrying is that truck drivers are now grassing on other truck drivers, fair enough if he’s murdered someone, but for a weight offence?? No wonder the commaderie has gone.

Just asking like, schoolboy error that could’ve made me late if bridge had collapsed!!! Maybe next time it will…who knows??
I’m not looking for him to be locked up/banned/fined…just a ‘Don’t do it again, blah, blah’
but I guess that’ll be out my hands IF I report him■■?

Exactly. Would be one of those situations where they say “whoever did this come forward and no action will be taken”. Yeah right, more like throw the book at them and make an example to make themselves look good get “one more reckless lorry driver off the road”.
If it were you in your younger years would you of took the short cut to get home as you were on a promise? Maybe maybe not. Best not to lose any sleep over it. Maybe take a different route to work if possible to have a break from the norm?

Not plod
If you thought that the manner of his driving was well below what you would expect from such a driver then a call to his boss would be in order as it might affect them as well as the driver
You need to get yourself a new job mate, one with a nice blue uniform maybe.
Look up Lorry Watch at Bradford on Avon.
