Get a grip man.
The police are not generally interested in reports of transgressing weight limits unless you have a time, photograph and description of the driver, if you really want to you can send it to Trading Standards.
We get a lot of reports from grumpy buggers who were held up for a few seconds, our parish council clerk collates all these and sends them off in bulk.
OK fellas, thanks for all the replies, I don’t see any sense in pursuing this any further, I was annoyed mainly with the blatant ignoring of road signs but also the guy’s driving in general. But having slept on it & cooled down I’ll just ‘live & let live’, nobody’s perfect - especially me!!!.
Thanks again.
My advice is get a wife or girlfriend.
If you’ve already got a wife or girlfriend get one that will ■■■■ you off more regularly.
Even more than usual■■? Blimey I couldn’t cope with that!!!
As a full time wagon driver, I see practically every day far more serious motoring offences than a wagon going through a weight limit, when the wagon shouldnot be there.(most offences being committed by car drivers) If you didnot take a pic then its the wagon drivers word against yours. With all the problems going on in the world, i would not give it anymore thought!
How did you calculate he was loaded to maximum weight?
Yes fair enough the GVW of the vehicle is what counts here, just interested, tyre bulge? known weight of plant on board?
I went through a new weight limit a little while ago, well new to me, A5130 that runs parallel to the M1 that links jct 14 to the A421 to rejoin M1 at jct 13, i used it in reverse due to serious delays on the M1 northbound, was happily breezing up there minding me own business marvelling at how many new army barracks, sorry desirable homes, have gone up in the years since i last used it, then realised its been weight limited, ah well thank goodness no one reported me eh.
edit…just rereading, no i didn’t reverse all the way, was travelling in the opposite direction to the description…

Why waste your time?
Was anyone hurt?
Did it affect your journey?
Did you get home that night?
Why stress
I do sometimes wonder about weight limits.
When the tarmac was laid, it would have been by a Barber Green (?) pushing an eight wheeler

I as thinking this exact thing the other week when we were planing a weight limit. Must of been 250 tonnes parked up or working on the road in that one. Road stayed in one piece.
the weight limits everywhere are there so over time the bridges do’nt get worn out,it’s a lot cheaper for the railways to put a sign up than maintain the bridges saving them a fortune over time
Ok thanks again for all the replies, as I said earlier I was just interested in your thoughts. I will not be reporting this guy, but some are missing the point(s).

This short-cut is renowned & used locally by light vehicles including weak hump-back canal bridge with 18 tonne mgw limit. In my eyes the weight limit isn’t there purely for restricting weight of vehicle, but also relating to size. Very tight for a full-sized rigid to get over it.
-
The weight limit is well signed on entry to lane, on both ends & prior to actual bridge.
-
The 26 tonne wagon was well up on weight. Not through tyre bulge or my suspicions but the fact I could see on-board was a large road planer & a medium-sized road roller. Loaded to extreme rear of plant lorry ramps.
-
The correct route would only add approx. 10 mins to the fella’s journey time.
-
He was not destined to deliver anywhere on the lane as I followed him from one end to other.
-
His other driving ‘skills’ were questionable causing at least 3 cars to slow down on a main road in the space of 1/2 a mile.
-
I know some weight restrictions are pointless & put up for residents benefits but this one is a genuine, required weight limit with a viable alternate, better route.
My thoughts behind OP were just for peoples opinions & guidance.
Thanks for your responses once again.

It wasn’t a large road planer if it was on a rigid.
TC have 2 metre planers than gross a wagon out at 70 tonnes. You’d not get one on a rigid.
If his driving was as bad as you say report him to the firm and let them deal with it.

Daz what you’ve got to realise is that not all trucks collect/deliver to industrial warehouses/supermarkets. For example, I’m on bulk tippers and I can be sent to deliver lime to a farmer for his fields where its a 7.5 tonne limit through a little village to get to his farm. This guy as you said was a plant vehicle, he may have been delivering to an address or trying to find an address quite similar. Give him the benefit of the doubt as you may one day find yourself in a similar situation. As I said in OP he was not delivering anywhere on the lane with the bridge…just using the renowned short-cut via the renowned very weak bridge. I do understand all access probs. But would he have used the route to save 10 mins. if it was a LOW bridge (that he wouldn’t fit underneath) rather than an old, weak canal bridge??
Hiya …tower bridge is a little old weak bridge with a weight limit. ask the old time drivers how many hundreds of
thousends of tons have passed over that in years gone by
john
what kind of person feels the need to grass on a fellow driver? he didnt do you any harm ffs.
even worse is the fact you feel the need to come on here and ask if you should drop him in the ■■■■!
get a life man.

From your OP…
lorry pulled out left from an awkward T-junction about 3 cars in front - causing them & me to almost stop on the main road.
Aside from the issues you mentioned, you appear to have a fixation that other road users may have to slow down for a lorry doing any sort of manoevre. How you get about your daily driving day without causing any inconvenience to anyone i’ve no idea. And i’ll closley watch your future posts for any tips i can pick up. Lorrys causing people to slow down and almost stop , really ? I knew cyclists did this but i never dreamt lorrys did it too.
Keep safe out there guys, its a dangerous world out there !!!
