Cleaning the trucks on a sat

Anyone remember Roffs transport (not Roffes lincolnshire), they had a fleet of white and blue Scanias nearly all 142’s and these were all meticulously washed and polished every weekend with some drivers spending the best part of a day hand washing and polishing even the chassis and the Acoha alloys. Are they still in buisness?

We have a truck wash machine jobby on site. If a driver fancies washing his motor, he drives through it simples.

Saturday is for overtime or ■■■■ potting about at home. Not for washing trucks. Get a grip people.

I know several guys who have to wash the trucks in their own time :open_mouth: that’s totally out of order :unamused:

That’s partly their fault for being stupid enough to accept such terms.

+1

Yes Peter Roff, irc. Don’t know if theyre still going I suspect not, lets face it you’d be able to see them coming. Think they used to do a lot Germany work

Roffes Lincolnshire are still going, run from the quay at Sutton bridge a lot I believe, still running 2nd hand Dafs, 105 space cabs.

Well its funny you should mention that, I reckon you must know them too  same type of outfit as the above mentioned Peter Roff

Large firm in Lincs…

Got into all sorts of bother with the ministry man over Saturday working. The ministry saw it as exactly that…working… therefore they wanted the time recorded as other work, cards in, mileage shown…the works.

They did, but it hasn’t curbed the enthusiasm for shinny trucks on the said firm :unamused:

Trouble is some of these muppets put posts all over FB “another cracking day polishing the truck, now heading home for tea, then its to the pub, with tom ■■■■ and harry to discuss what lights to fit tomorrow” and this would be posted on a Saturday afternoon :unamused: :unamused:

In a word mate No

Dozy Did you explain your position when you went for the interview or did you nod and say yes boss three bags full full boss.

Way I see it is, if you don’t get it dirty on a Saturday then it don’t get washed on a Saturday

if my gaffer bought me a 142,i’d come in on a saturday and wash it…at time-and-a-half though.

What would you rather do doze mate.
Be run ragged as you were by your last shower of sh, to the point of you having a nervous breakdown.

OR

Work for your mate (who will presumably look after you) so in return help him out for a couple of hours on a Sat morning by washing a couple of his motors, even if you are not really keen?

Give and take mate, give and take.

I was talking to a driver just this week who does what dozy did up until recently. I asked him about the job and he told me it was a doddle. He said there was the odd fifth night out but only if held up on site etc.

He painted a very different picture to dip ■■■■ dozy.

Does Dozy actually exists , my money is on the bet , that our amusing Dozy is a moderator having the last laugh on all of us.
Does anyone remember the hilarious Lord Socks ?

It’s like everywhere HS mate, if a driver shows willing to bend over with his kecks down, he will get it right up the arse by his planner/ boss (speaking metaphorically of course  ) if he shows balls and backbone, he doesn’t. :bulb: :bulb:

I don’t get run ragged to the limits and beyond, as I’m confident that you don’t either…it aint complicated

Does anyone else beside me think that Dozy will end up running himself ragged at this firm?

He said he was working for a mate of his, so I reckon it depends on how good a mate he is.
It’s usually a recipe for disaster mixing mates with employment, or business.
(or even selling a car to one that was totally fine and genuine when you sold him it…as I once found out. :unamused:  )

I’ve been there & done it, and your right it ends badly

What could possibly go wrong?

Talking too my new boss ( he’s a mate really) , said he may want me too do the odd sat morn cleaning the trucks ( outside ) , I’m not keen at all, I’ll do mine through the week and I.m.oh.o that’s what the other drivers should do ( I’d come in early fri at one job and get truck washed before last run of week ) .
Does anyone else do this , clean the trucks on a sat , it’s paid o/t but I just want my weekends off , but he’s a mate and been good too me so I don’t want too ■■■■ him off by saying no , is it not reasonable to expect the drivers too clean there trucks through the week

Warning this post may contain illegalish advice!!

First off, congrats on getting a new gig, sure Mrs Dozy is happy now which is your primary goal in life above all else.

Now then you use the phrase ‘mate’ so theres a personal relationship to consider, now mixing business and pleasure is all about balance so what I would do is enquire about how often, once a month once every few months etc then sort out the important stuff.
Right so how do you want to work this Brian (im using this name for your mate as a guess, he may be a Roger or even a Dave, everybody knows a Dave). Anyway does he want it all official, like using ‘manual entries’ (god I love that phrase), or are we talking cash in hand and on the snide a bit.

Im presuming cash in hand in which case go with it and see how the job unfolds, after all even though he is a mate doing jobs like this help keep the gaffer sweet in the short term.

Also its no hardship there maybe a couple of you in at a time, you can have the craic and bond with your colleagues.
Take it easy, dont rock the boat early doors.

Oh and when monies are involved friendships dont count for much.

Be sure to declare these extra earnings to the tax man like no one has else has done ever …

God almighty - he’s whingeing already…

Oh yes…Roffes lincolnshire with their Daf 2300’s pulling Norfolk Line tilts at 38ton :grimacing:
Re Peter Roff’s drivers, i take it they all bent over and took it with the rough end of a pineapple banged home with a tent peg mallet and washed their trucks in their own time then??

Ha ha, yes at 38 ton and a bit, quite often in My experience  .

I guess if FB has been around at the time of Peter Roff, then those drivers would have used it to organise their polishing duties too :unamused:

In answer too some question , you won’t be run ragged , it’s a straight trunk and back , 8 hrs max ( can be done quicker ) but boss ( mate ) said keep it round the 40 hrs and he’s happy with that ( paid 50 ) , the only thing that may change is you may do b- c - b , instead of your normal a-b-a , but all are steady runs .
as for cleaning trucks , some look like drivers clean there own , others , well they look like they’ve never seen water :unamused: , I don’t mind a hour at the beginning of shift as I can still get done in 8 hrs easily , but not doing Saturday .
Going with regular driver for 3 days too learn the job :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ( what you need too learn about driving from a- b I don’t know , but if that the plan well go with it , ) , but I’ll have a chat with him about this cleaning and how they work it
