Nice one! :sunglasses:

Dennis, sell your '83 modern and buy a proper classic! mini’s are becoming like Mk 1 Escorts now with sky high prices, but there’s still affordable old bang…er,i mean classics out there.i bought my Triumph Herald convertible for £800 4 years ago.you can get a pre-1960 side-valve Ford for a reasonable price and have free tax,and no mot

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but seeing as there are some classic car enthusiasts on here, I just wondered if any of you would be interested in this? Sunday 15th June (Fathers day), Cars on the Green and Bury (St Edmunds) Motor show. Believed to be the East of Englands largest free to attend and free to exhibit car show, now in its 8th year (2nd year incorporating Bury Motor Show), all money raised is donated to charity, last year we managed to raise over £3000. Keep an eye on buryretrocarclub.co.uk/carsonthegreen.php for more details.

Tell me about it, my son spent more time underneath than in it…

Not wrong I’ve had a couple of Mini Cooper 1.3i’s one was trouble free the other a right arse electrically. It had a habit of springing the inline fuses apart and cutting out all power. Bonnet up reattach and fire up again, would never happen often enough to spur me into fixing it properly though

Toyed with the idea of buying a project car a couple of years ago but now all silly money.

Ferrari’s at Longleat Safari Estate in Wiltshire.
Back on topic, why were Austin Allegro’s so bad.?

I’ve got a Citroën BX gti 16 valve. It turns 25 years old this April, so would have qualified for the ‘free’ tax system. I only use it during the summer months to go to Citroën Car Club events and the occasional road trip. I would like to see a system whereby you can tax the car online to use as and when needed, rather than 6 or 12 months as it is currently. I put 6 months tax on the BX in the spring, but probably only use it for twenty days or so out of those 6 months.

Could very well be coming to a computer near you soon. When paper tax discs are phased out (very soon) there will be a facility to pay road tax by monthly direct debit.

Also very soon (April I think)the free historic tax cut off date will be extended by one year to vehicles manufactured before 01.01.74.

I have 7 classics around ranging from 1960 (just out of mot exemption)to a 1994 daily driver.
Some have been off the road 20+ years and have various forms of old style log books, some not even in my name. What should I be doing about that at this stage, anything or nothing until they are restored?

I know of a very nice condition Sunbeam Alpine convertible in blue for sale located on the central south coast if anyone interested. £5k.

By ONE YEAR■■? That’s ridicolous.

That’s a lovely example of a now quite rare car. Worth a few bob too.

here’s a couple of pics of my last one that i reluctantly sold recently-beast of a car lol

I had a Mini van with a tuned 1340cc motor, 12 inch wheels and MG1300 final drive.
All these years on and I still wish I’d never sold it- never even took a photo of it.

Same here.

Here’s a couple of my past classics … I’m not driving anything more exciting than a 1991 Daihatsu Fourtrak nowadays.

1976 Citroen Dyane:

1966 Citroen Ami (lowered, with massive stereo :sunglasses: )

1970 Land Rover:

1962 Volvo Amazon (that’s my 240 in the background, too):

I do like my cars to be a bit battered and scruffy …

I had a 1983 Mazda RX7, same with that, wish I’d kept it.

When I was at Maritime a few years back, I had and used part of each week, a Sierra XR4x4 2.9i, not in the same league but try getting a replacement now, just a few years on…

Also owned a Citroen BX that was wrote off by a drunk in a nicked car and a Renault 21 turbo that I blew the turbo on and sold for peanuts

Also a 1980 (so not old) Land Rover Series III that I sold about 6 or 7 years ago, let it go far too cheap

Here’s mine. I have put photo’s of it up before onTN

1970 LHD Fiat 500L

I had a 1955 MG ZA for awhile parked on the drive outside the house years ago that I was slowly getting restored and used occasionally. Went home on leave one time and … no car  The then wife had sold it :open_mouth: to whom and for how much to this day I do not know :imp:

My 2p’s worth…

Did them both up myself. Also at the same time had a 1959 MG Magnet saloon, which I drove as an everyday car.

The MG I sold, didn’t get a lot of use out of it, the tractor works for a living over here in France.

Agree the taxing laws need to change. It’s crazy that you can buy a classic truck pre '60 ( I think, some one will know ) No tax, No MOT, and drive on an ordinary car licence ! next time you see an Leyland Octopus and drag…beware !!!
( only kiddin )
MOT’s in France are every 2 years for cars, no road tax either, and they don’t have any MOT’s,for motorbikes ! like I believe the I.O.M., No consistency between countries
