Classic cars

Dear collagues,

I’m pretty sure, most of us loves the classic cars, some of us even have a classic, or even more in their garages. (I do… :sunglasses:.)
There is a man, who started a petition a month ago for a new, fair tax system. Only about 400 supporters need to reach a needful 10.000…
Please, any one who can agree with it, sign the petition on the link below… :sunglasses:

Thanks for your attention.

Nobody, but our heart.

Yes I pay £200 ish for my 1986 vw scirocco and use it for about 1500 miles a year.
The father in law has got a 2 litre vauxhall insignia company car does mega mileage and that’s tax free,it really annoys me this new tax system.
What happened to road tax been used to maintain the up keep of the roads?

if you want free road tax,buy a pre-'73 car…that’s what i did :sunglasses:

Used to be as soon as the car reached 25 yrs old it became tax free, poxy labour stopped it.

1: I can not afford that.

2: This one belongs to me for ages, I built her by my own hands… (I went to the Isle of Sardegna for a door handle by train. There was no internet that time…).

3:My car is a 1983 made; For God sake, more than 30 years…

4:in the Uk thousands of small businesses based on the classics, I think, a fair tax system would help them too…

Labour, tory, all the same ■■■■.

Why should driving an old car mean free tax? I like to see old vehicles but they still use the road system, in a limited capacity, so perhaps pay a fraction of the normal amount?
Anyone driving a Morris Marina needs free mental health care though…

Not simply old, I mean classic, rare vehicles. I would love a Morris Marina, anyway.

I have four classic cars of which only one is tax exempt, but they all get taxed for the six summer months - there’s no point having them if you’re not going to use them.

I also have four others under various stages of restoration, one of which won’t even need a MOT.

The whole idea of using a car older than 30 years for daily use is unreal, but I do know folk who do. In fact I know three people who have 40+ years old runabouts and one who uses a 53 year old as a runabout. But these are exemptions and the whole classic car tax system is ludicrous and needs changing.

I’ve used - off the top of my head - a 1962 Volvo Amazon, any number of elderly Citroen 2cvs and Dyanes (including a 1976 model), a 1970 Land Rover Series 2a and a 1966 Citroen Ami … all as daily drivers. I can’t see the point in having a car if you’re not going to use it day in, day out.

I understand that, and during the summer months I will use her for commuting to the workplace (just for pleasure  ).
But I do not want to use her during the winter, cos she is allergic to salt…

if you have several vehicles i think you should be able to transfer your tax to whatever vehicle you decide to drive that day-you can only drive one at a time !!!

I had a 1970 Rover P5b in 1995 when they scrapped the tax for classics over 25 years old. I cashed the disc the next day as it was the end of the month and never retaxed at zero rate as nothing was mentioned about that.

I got a fine for non display of a disc, think I was grassed up by the bloke opposite  I paid the fine but wrote a letter explaining why it had no disc. Got a letter back explaining it still needed a disc but they could see my point and sent me a refund

I love classic cars, my preference is minis, proper classic minis not them bmw imposters. mini cooper s are becoming like hens teeth and you need to be handy with a mig welder to keep them in good condition
