just a little tale of bad luck . took my class one test yesterday, reversing went fine , questions no problem … then as we leave the test centre … the old girl chugs to a halt (90`s volvo). after much swearing i got her started again and crack on . i can feel shes
holding back a bit but dont want to give up. 5mins into test and alls going well until i approach a busy roundabout in 5th , drop into low range and she just dies , grab 3rd and bumpstart her , limp out the way of the roundabout ! examiner says “do you want to continue with the test?” … so all i could think of saying was “well i dont fancy me chances of pushin the [zb] round… so no not really!” hows your luck !!! gottalarf aintyah ! . trainer was more gutted than me bless him .

^^^Made me LOL as well that bit
Ah bugger, when’s your retest?
next friday at 2.15 . you watch ill probably [zb] the reversing up or just get lost on the way there this time
Two posts and two auto censor dodges… Please read forum Rule #3, cos you’ve already agreed to it. Thanks. dd.
Na, just chill out and if you’ve got the same examiner make a joke of it.
Do you have to pay for the 2nd test?

I hope not.
The school should pay for it. It was their defective lorry after all.
Bad luck to the OP. Better luck next time.
Maybe a silly question.
Was there any fuel in the tank. ( easly missed in excitment of the test day )
if happened this-tes this tests you fail.but you must care on tests ,because DSA not return money, and driving schools don t give fo free next tests.so if you care on you get extra expirience to drive with DSA examinators.
All the driving schools I know about give a completely free retest day if this happens
Odd to find this subject in the PDF …

Yes you can see it as an experience.
And you are correct that the DSA don’t refund (except in very exceptional circumstances).
But you are wrong about the school refunding.
If the truck develops a fault whilst on test, they should offer a free retest.
The exact same thing happened to me, airline had a leak in it and finally gave up the ghost about 3 miles from the test centre. The examiner abandoned the test and got out and walked away. Now this was before mobile phones so I had to find a phone box and ring the instructor. He arrived about an hour later ■■■■■■ and blinding at me and saying what had I done wrong After a very heated discussion I got a free retest and when we got back to the test centre the examiner told the instructor not to bring that bundle of scrap back to test centre (unbeknown to me he had been ‘advised’ to get a newer lorry). Done the test later that week in a different lorry with a different examiner who was renowned for being easy on his tests
This is my bugbear with people who look for the cheapest service and expect the highest standard.
Something has to give somewhere.
When you go for an assessment, look at the quality of the vehicles that are being used.
Also take on board the comments from previous trainees (like the reviews on here).
If they say the instructor kept falling asleep, or they spent longer in the tea room than out on the road, or they had to take it back to the garage to fix (insert anything that does not come under the heading ‘coincidence’), walk away! 9 times out of 10 it’s YOUR money you are wasting giving it to these shoddy operators.
Before I drove lorries, I used to fix computers for a living. One of the most demeaning things was when a customer would walk in off the street and say they wanted 2 hours work to reload a computer for a tenner. Oh and would I mind throwing this or that in for free. No I frikkin wouldn’t. If you want freebies and a second class service for the cost of a couple of pints, go and see your neighbour. When the neighbour balls it up, come back with the proper fee for a proper service.
And that is the end of my Saturday Morning rant
I failed my first class 1 test (understandable as I was an agency driver at the time, foreigner on top of that) and on my retest I did the reverse perfectly, shut her down and had a ■■■ with the examiner. We got back in to go for the drive and it wouldn’t turn over. Starter motor was dead and the examiner wrote it off as a mechanical failure.
The driving school boss came to pick me up, he was very embarrassed. He treated me to breakfast on the way back and booked me in for another free test
10/10 would break down again.

Happened to me when I took mine in 96.
Truck broke down on the way to the test, so it was cancelled and the school paid for the re-test.

Totally agree, was heading out of Salisbury on the A360 on tues and came up behind a cat c learner trying to take a left hand junction too late, so sat there waiting while he got sorted out on the wrong side of the road, was checking out the vehicle old w plate premium sleeper, looked about half knackered, no signage and back roller shutter missing sections. My first thought was why did the learner use them…
blimey , its more common than i thought . thanks for the response . i dont have to pay for my re test as the examiner classed it as a “no result” and not a fail . as for your bugbear dar1976… i know what your saying but they were in no way offering the cheapest rates and the wagon i took my assesment in was a much later one , i dont really feel the training school are to blame . just one of them things i guess . they were really gutted about it .
took my test again today … smashed it !!!. just done my first roro d/bar job ! loved it . this is proper lorry driving . in the BIG league now !! I guess this is when i really start learning ay ? any advice ?
