Class 1 work in and around Reading - looking for a change

selby newcomer:
I know a few lads who left tesco coz they got bored, a few months down the line and they’ve regretted leaving, it ain’t the best job in the world but it’s also not the worst, you’ve already said you get left alone to do the job, you go somewhere else and after the 6th phon call from the office asking why you’re late somewhere you’ll be wishing you’re back at tesco. i get it if you e had enough of agency work, I done 3 years of it before tesco and wouldn’t wanna go back to it now, especially an agency like TRG

Yeah I get that, it could happen.
I guess realistically it’s just early days in my career as a driver and I have an urge to try something else. I’m happy sticking at it for now it would just be great to find something really rewarding as well as getting a proper contract somewhere not getting robbed by TRG. I don’t expect 50k but I know I can earn more.

My advice mate is to not put money as your top priority, as to earn big bucks you have to make sacrifices in other areas.

I didn’t leave Tesco because of being robbed by TRG (I checked the pay rates etc and it didn’t seem to make a difference)

I just got [zb] off with being messed about by the rubbish admin but IMHO that seems to be exactly the same where ever you end up

There is an industrial estate at Thatcham where a lot of logistics companies seem to be based - try going off any of the rounabouts from the Crem onwards. If you need more info then PM me

You can always apply direct at the gate rather than trying to search online and ending up with the phone number of yet another agency

Think QTR are on 8 quid an hour now ain’t they…might be a couple of shilling more but not much. If you want a cushy little number, >30k Mon-Fri, give Bidvest a ring, just the other side of the r’about from Tesco) and see if they got anything…got a long term agency bloke in atm…all curtainside work, rarely a night out…no rigids there so don’t listen to the ‘wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole’ lot! If you don’t fancy the 5am start and lunchtime finish, nights is the way forward there but nowt going at the mo…and is the easiest of the easiest…I just don’t know how to fill my 18hrs btwn shifts!

Surely it can’t be £8 an hour, might as well stack shelves in a supermarket.
I didn’t even know bidvest were there, never see any of their lorries when I’m working! I’ve heard in the past they’re horrible to work for but maybe that’s the class 2 stuff, I’ll look into it though cheers

And I did hear once they don’t/didn’t pay for starting before 5 or 6am. I know they had pay talks a while back but rarely see any of their drivers to talk to

Yeah fair enough I guess talk to them direct to get the low down

Get on them and you might end up doing a lot of our work anyway…but with the early starts, late finishes & nights out! I do have a sneaky feeling there is a QTR driver on here who would be able to give proper info etc

Sorry bud… I’m over at Bidvest on nights…well I say nights, 7 till 1 and that’s hanging it out!

Blimey 6 hour shifts and 30k+ salary
Good find! I take it you mean Reading depot?
Do you do trunking then? Full loads / 2 runs a night?

Trunking…furthest we go at night is Paddock Wood. Very rare it’s a full load on any of the 3 depots we take out but we’ve got it on a rota that we have to go ight into the new depot in Slough at night, back, swap trailers then off to do our own depot…we do the same runs every night (3 of us) and yep, it’s boring as hell but hey…as long as the truck is back for 4am to be loaded for the day lads, no one gives a hoot what we do…if they did, we’d all be in the big chair to the explain our ‘nights work’! Days have to earn there money…they do 1 depot and maybe, just maybe…2 collections!

oh by the way dont try DBC they went under a few years back !!

I can tell you that QTR base pay (via TRG) is £13 an hour. They are still arguing it all out atm so if you want more info then please ask

Jennie - That’s a shock about DBC. I did wonder why I hadn’t seen any of their rigids about for a while but I don’t go into Newbury much if I can help it. I can’t say I am surprised though as it was a weird set up IMHO

If K&N are still at Theale…

Might be worth a try.

They’ve moved to Reading. I’ve delivered there but can’t remember the road name off the top of my head.

Acre Road in the old Whitbread place.
