Class 1 Training Prices

Piston broke:
No idea of prices but you could reduce the cost considerably if you offered to do a Saturday morning free, in the artic, and had your Dad sat by the side of you…

If you were cute - and asked your guvnor - you have a bloody great free training ground to practice reversing - and all things articulated!

That’s sort of how they trained Dad; He went on L plates with his brother and then did a course and passed test. I’ve driven Dads’ in the yard when he’s been steam cleaning it (turning it around when he’s got dirty overalls on etc). It’s been “considered” in the past when my wagon was serviced that I could put L plates on Dads and he’d supervise.
As a side, does Class1 training count towards DCPC?

FarnboroughBoy11:
650 quid with Newcroft training services in Purfleet, bit far from Witney though mate.

I’m thinking of doing mine with them in the next few months r they any good though

It can do if the course is DCPC approved - not many have this so check with the course provider

Yes I found they were very good, nice blokes and chilled out. I done my licenses back to back in 2009 so not sure if the same instructors are there, I had a bloke called John, Irish fella.
They run an ex sainsburys Volvo with a choice of 45ft trailer or a 30ft one.

When I did my HGV class 2 training back in the 1970’s the guy who I shared the cab with was upgrading from class 3 to class 2 due to the fact that for a year he had been an OD on a six wheeler but hadn’t actually got a license to drive it, oops! :open_mouth: The point I am getting at is that he was a decent driver but it took nearly all week to break him off ‘bad habits’ like driving with one hand on the gear lever and having his arm on the window ledge as well as having a ■■■ in his mouth when concentrating! I guess we are all guilty of some of those, he passed ok though, but it can sometimes be easier to train someone from scratch than a driver who has many years driving under his belt?
Good luck with it anyway Nathan.

Pete.

Muckaway, can I ask how old you are?

Just, I think it’s time to move on from where I am, and the only way I can see how to, is to upgrade from my C to the C+E.

Would it still be worth doing it at being 37?

Also, who would people recommend up here in the northeast?

Anyone know the prices of Tyne and Wear LGV training? I’ve been recommended them more than TTS.

I agree with you Pete, my uncle taught Dad to change completely clutchless. Trainer shook his head.
Funny thing though, Dad was better than my uncke with a twin splitter.

I remember them well, cut my teeth on those bloody things! Using the clutch made it harder IMO.
Certainly better than the piece of german smack through crap i have to put up with now

Go for it, im 49 and got my C+E test next Tuesday

Exactly how I feel after being on tippers for past 4 years plus I want to see a bit more this country than London and the proxy m25

Goldfinger, I’ve just turned 33, been on Smiths for 13 and a half years. They put Dad through his class1 when he was 52.

when i did my class 2,the firm i was working for promised that i would then be put through the class1(the same firm i said in another post were the best i have ever worked for-and they were)
however,as i worked with my dad and he had class 1,they said they would put me through it when he retired-about two years in the future at the time,so i left and took a job doing basically the same as i was ,but at least £200 a week more-and i still regret leaving, and i still havent done my class 1 ,and at the moment cant see myself doing it for quite sometime as it wont earn me any more money.if it would count for dcpc i would do it next week lol-but as i am self employed it will have to wait a while, but will be done one day!!

We’ve just put one of our class 2 lads through his class 1.
£80 a 2 hour lesson, £120 for the test plus truck hire for test.
Cost about £500 all in.

Dav1d:
I paid just shy of £1200 when I did mine during the past week.
Of the 5 companies I called fairly local to Milton Keynes, that was the 2nd cheapest.

Who did you use?

Letchworth based Herts Roadtrain.

Dav1d:

Lol, though it might be, hows it going mate?.
I spoke to Michelle today and they quoted me £541 to retake my test. That’s for 2 hours training, 1 hour warm up before the test, hire of the truck for the test and the test fee itself. Seriuosly considering it while it’s all still fresh in my mind. :grimacing:

And here’s me thinking I’m too old… :unamused:

The minute my pennies are through this month, I’m doing it!!

Every time I’ve had cash saved to do it, somethings always come up and cost £££.

Saw your username and wondered too!
Not going too bad. I think you should redo it. You were doing really well. Any idea if that class 2 lad passed ?

Jeez, there’s a massive North/South divide with this!

That would cost £280 here, 2x 2 hour lesson @£80 and £120 test.

Even at £100 for a 2 hour lesson, that’d only be £320.

The £541 you’ve been quoted, it’s £120 for the test (DFT fee, same everywhere I believe), so a 2 hour sesh must cost £210 !!!

I’ve passed my Class 2 test, when I was 41; then I passed my test (Class 1) when I was 44.
