Class 1 Training Prices

I’m toying with the idea of going for my class ; What would this cost do you think? I know about going direct for training instead of broker etc.

as you’re already driving a class 2 full time. you shouldn’t need much training.
the reversing will be the hardest part for you because you’ve been throwing your tipper around buiding sites you’ll end up turning the wheel the wrong way.
i would say £800 will get you through.
I know a very good firm in Preston, It’s the only one i would recommend. there are also a couple that i know of that are complete cowboys.

Obviously avoid brokers, completely pointless.

I’d have thought, since you don’t need a medical or dCPC, 800 ish, but I’ve no idea on current prices, I had change out of 600 but that was 5yrs ago.

Good luck with it, but no idea why you’re bothering to be honest

Sounds like I got a bad deal going on your prices. 2005 got mine and cost just shy of a grand which I thought was the norm to be honest, and this was direct with the training firm in Ipswich.

Can’t imagine prices would have come down though so maybe a grand today?

650 quid with Newcroft training services in Purfleet, bit far from Witney though mate.

I was lucky though, I passed in a day - same day I climbed in the truck (although I did an assessment on a Saturday to see how much training I’d need) I climbed out with the pass certificate.

Give JLD LGV training a call - they are relatively close to you and it will give you some idea of price

I see, mine was for the whole week training and included test fee for the test on the following Tuesday as well as 1hr lesson Tuesday morning prior to test. £960 something like that it was. More than paid for itself now though.

I paid just shy of £1200 when I did mine during the past week.
Of the 5 companies I called fairly local to Milton Keynes, that was the 2nd cheapest.

Sounds like a quiet period, can’t see anyone really requiring a full weeks training to go from C to CE, it’s really not that hard is it?

Muckaway, shop around if there’s a few training centres near you, I can’t help, I’m in Manchester, but I used Stockport HGV. There’s competition around here from Enterprise, Pioneer and a few others, so the prices are always competitive ish.

There was two of us training together for the week, and pretty sure thats just how they said it would be, a week long course. I had 5 months of C work prior to the test and then passed CE first time. As I say, its paid for itself now any how so not worried if I paid a little over the odds, it was 7 years back now.

I think finding somewhere that runs artics is fairly important. A lot of companies just use wagon and drag to save on costs of buying a tractor unit and trailer.

Have sent you a PM mate
cheers
John.

it looks like nathan could be after his dad’s job !

You need to compare like for like, around here you could pay between £800 - £1500 either 2-1 or 1-1 training, varying hours from 5-6 hours 2-1 training wag n drag or 7-8 hours 1-1 training artic which is hard going and brain mashing but i managed it and passed at the first attempt.

As you have lots of experience of class 2 i would imagine you would require minimal conversion time and cost, but have an assessment drive so you know where you are at with it.

Muckaway! On assessment you should if you haven’t got too many bad(tipper)habits do your Class1 in a couple of days! £850 or similar! That’s what I paid in 2007 for 4 days training and test! :grimacing:

Had a bit of practice on an articulated dumptruck. Rigsby; You’re not far wrong, when I asked to go back on tippers and was “temporarily refused” our TM did say the idea of me replacing Dad when he retires has been considered. Although if what’s gone on recently is anything to go by, I don’t trust them to train me up for it when we have rigid drivers with c1 already.
I thought it would be nice to have along with my plant qualifications.

c1■■ 7.5t drivers? :grimacing:

I’ve passed my test in February in Weedon (Northampton). I chose the LGV Trainers because:

They have DAF vehicle with a nice powerful engine and smooth gearbox.
Their trainers are excellent.

I paid £ 1105 incl. VAT.

Well wort it, I already got back that money on my wage.

No idea of prices but you could reduce the cost considerably if you offered to do a Saturday morning free, in the artic, and had your Dad sat by the side of you…

If you were cute - and asked your guvnor - you have a bloody great free training ground to practice reversing - and all things articulated!
