Class 1 Licence Without Paying?

Hi guys, I’m in the Swindon area and was wandering if anyone knows of a company that recruits trainee class 1 drivers gives them a licence and the employee doesn’t pay a penny for the licence as long as they stay with the company for say a year?

I doubt there is one in the country…

Why would an employer want to risk thousands of pounds on someone they don’t know, who might be a complete flake and course them no end of headaches, problems and losses?

Any employer will be wondering why you can’t bring anything to the party? i.e. find a couple of 2k to get to class 2!

Sorry pal!

BTW - A company will normally want to tie a KNOWN employee into 2 years, to put them through a single licence upgrade!
i.e. 7.5t to Class 2, or Class 2 to Class 1

Why are you wandering around Swindon?

I get a few emails from jobs sites and there are a few saying they’re taking on Trainee HGV drivers.

Why shouldn’t they, lots of other industries take on trainees and apprentices, they’ve began to learn the lesson that if they don’t there aren’t the skilled workers to let their companies grow.
It’s about time the haulage industry learned the same lesson instead of going to the government asking them to solve their potential recruitment problems. :imp:

where I work we’ve taken on an apprentice CNC machinist and a trainee racecar mechanic, both have worked out really well. Also in the past like other race teams I’ve worked for they’ve put people through their HGV tests.

You my friend, can go … yourself!

I was bored, lonely, lost, unfulfilled, and bereft about not being class 1 mate! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Not you Beezle, the OP! He said he was in Swindon and wandering.

Apart from that, stop poking your nose into class 1 stuff. Guffaw.

Don’t let him kick you down like that Beezle, us van drivers have to stick together!

And anyway, why are people so proud to bend both ways?

I don’t disagree mate, as there are opportunities… But I suspect most will not be straight forward, either requiring multiple years of tie in on low money, or some sort of credit arrangement. Then again, maybe both! :open_mouth:

My point was more that to have 3.5k spent on you in one hit, and for it to only cost you one years’s service probably wasn’t realistic…

Yep, I see it now…

Add thick & stupid to my list!

I don’t bend either way Nick! :open_mouth:
Plus I’m going to be your friend for 2 more weeks pal!

Bend both ways jibe, in fairness was quite good.

Are you agency Nick?

Gregory transport in Shepton Mallet pay for all truck driving training, rigid to artic, and Adr, Driver Cpc,Moffat,Fork lift, for local and distance work, call 01749 333 400 for an application form .

I’ve spent the last few days developing a terrible limp. Can’t bring myself to buy a Bluetooth ear piece though and I’m ■■■■■■ if I can afford to carry my stuff around in a plastic bag at today’s prices!

Beezle: you’ll go week at the knees when CE comes around and ■■■■ your pants with fear. Just don’t forget me when you’ve passed and I’m all alone in my ■■■■■■ van!

" Pre agency " van driver. Love it.

Just above pedestrian in the transportation food chain!!

Yeah right…
I’m absolutely wetting myself, my tena lady is wringing wet!
But not looking forward to the 7 days on my knees! :open_mouth:

And I bet my limp is worse than yours, as I put my back out on Sunday getting up off the sofa!
As a result, I had a drivers mate helping me in my VAN today.
So it started to feel like class 1, as I basically did all!

You doing it in the drag it a proper lorry? Peter was showing my round Big Beauty on Saturday, it’s a pretty impressive motor, and even you could figure out the gear box, I think!

Sunday’s are for working not sitting on your Arse!

Are we hijacking this thread? :open_mouth:
Although I think the answer has been covered before, and paying for it yourself mean’s you’re nobody’s ■■■■■!

Not doing W&D, although that was David’s advice when I passed Class C with him. So he’s going to give me some abuse when he teaches me in a week and a bit in an Artic!

P.S. You didn’t answer my question about what colour Big Beauty was■■?
(Your thread!)

And as far as I’m aware, all of Pete’s Artic are Auto you cheeky sod!!! :smiling_imp:

Big beauty is the beastly red one

NickW88:

I was prompting you mate, as a week on Friday, I’ll be in it! :grimacing:

I’ll try and keep the paintwork the same!

I was also allowed in her AFTER i’d passed Class 2 by David!
Couldn’t believe that at 6’5" I could stand up with room to spare…
(In a caravan I stand in the roof vent!)

I’m not far behind you at 6’3 and it was so spacious! Gearbox looks like a doddle to use as well. When I can afford my CE I’m holding out for that too lol

To be honest, it doesn’t matter pal, as a C+E licence is a C+E licence, and 4 days in a big unit is all it is, 4 days!

As long as i pass, I’d drive a car transporter unit…
