Claiming a cat D with a cat C+E without taking test

So some bright spark has told me that if you hold a class 1 license you can apply for a lower category such as a D bus license without taking a practical driving test
Has anyone heard about this before please

Yes you can, just ring up the DVLA and they’ll put t on for you.

In a dream I did

‘A lower category’

I have a D licence, there is nothing lower about having a bus ticket. I am allowed to carry the most precious of things.AKA other peoples children   The guy who told you this was most likely on the balcony.having missed the Herald by the smallest of margins and still suffering from survivors guilt.

Ok so I have a c+e for over 2 years now. So can I ring dvla up and they will give me d without having to take a test?? If so why not d+e as they know I could pull a c+e??

If any C+E holder out there wants to drive buses or coaches they will be awarded a D+E after passing a D test.

I got a D+E when I passed my bus test because of my artic licence too.
And a “bendy bus” is still only a D, not a D+E

Complete and utter ■■■■■■■■.

For a start a D isn’t a lower standard. It’s something different.

You most definitely do need to take another theory test, another practical, and another cpc if you want to drive buses. You even need to take a new medical if you didn’t tick category D on your form when you applied for C.

Maybe this person meant, like what someone has already said, if you get a cat D then because you’ve got C+E then it automatically gives you D+E without having to take an extra test? If that’s not what he mean, then as stated, utter tosh!

Well thank God that’s cleared up!

Where’s my sick bag? :grimacing:
I drove buses and others peoples children were vastly outnumbered by junkies, jakies, alckies and general scum.
Course not all the drivers were like that, some were ok

Actually if you drive buses and trucks you only need one lot of 35hrs dcpc to cover both categories. Please feel free to check on this before you reply.
I know for a fact I’m right

Do you not need to take a different category for PSV?
Having a cat c or c+e is different from D as you are carrying people so need a seperate test do you not?

I’ve only had to do one lot of 35 hours CPC which covers both my CE and D category.
Back to the OP’s mate, by that thinking anyone who has a car licence should be able to have their motorbike entitlement for free too.

Was the bright spark Lee Mack? And was he sitting in a room full of celebrities which included Rob Brydon & David Mitchell?

I did wonder why Alex Jones on BBC1’s one show last week said she could drive a bendy bus after passing her coach licence

I had to take a test in a coach to get my D and DE cat even though I had a CE. Only took it because I was struggling to get on the road and I used to work for a bus company anyway. Still had to do all the CPC too, theory and haz percep, case studies and the likes. Something they called a “CPC conversion” which was the exact same thing if you ask me  apparently, when I renew my CPC, it will renew both the C’s And the Ds. Never used my pcv but at least it’s there if I need it!
