Christmas tips / bonus?

At the place I go too they call them porters.

I call them helpers/unloaders/driver’s assistants/driver’s mate in my own head. I suppose that is a better description of their role to me and outsiders.

Unsure why they are called porters, but that’s what they are called in the office and how they refer to themselves.

They are all good lads and very hard grafters, so if that is what they want to be called I roll with it

We had ‘porters’ on B&Q home delivery. Some were sound, some were lazy barstewards. 1 nearly ended up walking back from scouse land but talked me round before I left him :imp:

my lads were given by me £150 each plus I took them out for a indian and a drink ,which I paid for .

Hahahaha that must have taken some charm on his part.

I will say I’ve been very lucky with the ones I work with but most are permanent and are very hard workers, but so would I be on their whack!

Sure did. I’m an easy going guy tbh, but everyone has their buttons

Most of the porters at B&Q were permanent, if any were agency, they weren’t put with agency drivers.
The problem was, they were on a day rate, so wanted everything done quick as possible, where as I was on an hourly rate and docked my lunch and overtime after 8hrs, so no way I was working through lunch.
Didn’t always go down well, but tough :grimacing:

Same at my joint think its the rule, but I have worked with agency porters too!

Yeah the salary thing on a Saturday does cause a problem. I’m straight down the middle with them all. At 06:01 with whoever comes out with me, gets the standard debrief “I don’t work through my breaks” as you say money deducted, lose overtime hours and I don’t work for free for nobody!

Any complaining I tell them “they can personally pay for me to work thorough my lunch out of their own pockets, in cash, in advance”. That soon puts the complaints to bed and any sly comments, they get told who holds the keys if they really want to get zbish!

Just proves they can’t have everything their own way, they don’t have that difficult a job in reality so what’s a minimum of 45 minutes out of 1 day, they were already going to have to do it anyway■■?

I do a usual three hours extra overtime per day in the weekday job, so they should count themselves very lucky! :smiling_imp: Perhaps I should remind any complaintants in the new year of this fact, other jobs would expect more for less and not just in distribution either!

Just receiving our xmas bonus from our loverly Dickensian Spirited Scrooge like company. Apparantly as we get back to the depot we’ve all got to wait for the last driver (“its only fair”) some have been sitting here for 3 hours. Valuable Drinking Time being wasted Grrrrrrrr ! Bah Humbug !

My nice surprise was to be given a full time job at the place I’m agency for. Start on the 7th

Chester, can you expand on what you meant by, “…we were being paid unfairly in role as task managers when we run in convoys.”
thanks
