As its the summer holidays i’m taking the boy out with me on Friday, he’s wanted to come for ages! Asked about passengers and that’s not a problem, the only thing I’ve been told is that i might have to hide him if i get sent to certain places!
So, my question is, if i happen to be visiting supermarket rdc’s which ones are child friendly and which ones will i have to hide him? Oh yeah, he’s got his own hi viz and he is 8 years old.
Any help would be greatly received.
I’d say NONE are friendly in any way, to children, adults or drivers (we’re unique).
Hope this helps
Not an expert mate and don’t wish to put a downer on it but I’d guess most total dog holes and obviously if it’s a hand the keys in one you cant really leave him in the motor on his own especially in this weather
Lidl and Aldi won’t be a problem but you won’t really be allowed in the other big ones, you won’t get searched on the way in so tell the boy to keep his head down, but you could get searched on the way out.
I’d leave him sat in the cab in RDCs with a mobile he can call you on as I think you’ll end up gifting jobsworth twerps an opportunity to throw their weight around.
A boring HR prospective for you, no one under the age of 18 would be allowed on site from my experience in retail.
when i was a lad it was just a case of diving on the bunk and pulling the curtain across, always worked for me as well when i took the little uns with me
Hope you don’t get sent to any B&Q RDC’s, they dont allow passengers on site and check the cab on the way out.
I don’t see the problem as long as passengers stay in the cab at all times.

It’s either that for me or just sit up and look tall and stick me chest out ahaha, saying that though, we very rarely go to rdc’s.
Not much help to you mate, but when my kids were younger they were experts at at hiding in RDC,s.
I have had my kids with me for 4 weeks (one at a time) in the summer holidays, and all over euroland they are made wellcome, until we arrive back in the UK then they hide ,health and safety gone mad again.
Its also the uk attitude to children compared to euroland, TOTALY DIFFERENT
the euros accept kids, we don,t.

I think your right, but its not just RDC’s most building sites are over 18’s and Tilbury docks most certainly are. They ID’d my missus one evening, this pleased her as she’s 30 lol
Saw a bloke with his lad in Tesco’s at Widnes a couple of weeks back if that helps
My boy used to hide on the top bunk at all sorts of places.
how old is he
Had to get shot of the then 18 year old at
some place in Wales once.
He just buried his nose in a book at the gatehouse
Did a Saturday morning last week to Selhurst rail depot with my lad, thought that it was going to be an issue but he stayed in the cab and nothing was said. I was actually expecting a whole load of H&S BS about handrails and harnesses etc etc. but they were good, left me to sort myself out as long as I waited to be escorted when ready to leave.
Wonder if it’d be different on a weekday?
just tell em he is on a work experience program , that’s if he looks 15 plus
The only RDC where I’ve seen kids with high viz openly walking around the place with their dads is a certain pallet hub not far from a MSA.
To my knowledge, supermarket RDC’s are “instant dismissal” for anyone bringing unauthorised persons on site, even if kept in the cab.

It doesn’t take much searching to find kids, I know of at least 3 instances of flat kids, 2 run over by their own fathers whilst manoevering.
At least one of the kids was fairly flexible when the empty third axle ran over him so he only got “slightly” squashed innards, one was killed, but on the bright side you seem to know best eh

I know of a hell of a lot more adults like drivers. forkies and assorted warehouse staff who’ve come off just as badly so I’m not sure it’s purely age-related.
My point was I wouldn’t take my kid into the RDC waiting room, I didn’t say ‘why not use your child as a low-paid banksman?’

I wouldn’t take a kid into an RDC waiting room anyway - not with all that swearing and bullcrap that dominates the proceedings there!
