However, if you really are a poser drive a Scania, Daf or Volvo
No offence but these sort of comments make me chuckle!
Exactly where do you think the normal driver gets to chose what vehicle he drives?
It’s the firms choice what fleet they run.
A driver can influence to a degree, but business cost dictates what the fleet is.
My situation, we got DAFs and honestly regret it, I was lucky and influence got me
a scania coming next few weeks but generally no concern of the driver is given to choice of vehicle!

I read of so many of you drivers complaining how unreliable the Stralis is. Strangely I ran Ivecos for 25 years and apart from 3 turbos, 2 pistons , 1 clutch & 1 head gasket I didn’t have any reliability problems.
Yes, of course we had the occasional warning lamp come on. Having said that I gave owners & driven Scanias, now they were a load of engine trouble, a V8 blowing up at 50000 kms. An MAN engine blow @ 4020000kms, yet nobody seems to complain about those make. An Iveco is excellent value for money. However, if you really are a poser drive a Scania, Daf or Volvo
MAN did 4 million k’s before blowing, no wonder no bugger complains…
As for choice and posing, i never got a choice last time, whether i’ll get one next time we’ll see, if i do it’ll be between one of two or three makes where the dealers offer suitable overnight servicing, i won’t get the choice of a proper gearbox because others drive ours when we’re off shift, i don’t need to say any more do i.
To be fair the Scanias have proved themselves to be durable enough, and more importantly fairly idiot proof, and the interiors don’t self destruct if you stare at 'em too hard.
Last Iveco i drove (Stralis) drank oil, just as every other one i’ve driven has, and the rattley cab had to be tilted to put oil in, for that bit of idiot design alone they should never sell another vehicle here.
Quite a lot of modern motors dont have an actual dipstick, there is a computer screen and menu for you to check through.I think that you should arrive early for your first shift and ask the employed drivers about the ins and outs of the job.Be prepared for some p$$ss taking as drivers are a thick bunch at the best of times.
If I was confronted with all this crap instead of a dip stick or a rad’ cap to check oil and water etc, I’d probably come across as pretty bloody stupid too. Then again, I wonder how many people nowadays would undo a boiling hot rad’ cap to check the water, only to cop a face full of hot coolant. I just can’t see the problem with the old method of dip it every morning and check the water before starting it up.
