I’ve got a P-reg Rover 825 which is worth about £300.
I know, we’ve seen a pic of it.

Have to say I do find this thread quite amusing. Trucknet is full of truck drivers constantly whinging and moaning about poor rates of pay. Then in this thread they are mentioning what they drive: Merc CLK, 5 series Beemers, 130bhp Passat, etc. Hmmm, not doing too bad then are we or you’d all be in a £500 diesel Fiesta.haha good point
If the beemer in that quote is mine, I need it to shift my caravan, can’t see a fiesta towing 1.8 tonnes. But, it’s a W reg Diesel Beemer and it’s now got 167,500 miles on it, so hardly worth a lot is it?
Insurance is around 700 per year fully comp (with my mum on it), but it’s ■■■■■ on fuel, 40ish mpg’s on a run, 26-30 around town.

It could be worth your while doing the Institute of Advanced Motorists Test,no I am not taking the P.Its well within the capabilities of an experienced driver ,such as the folk on here.
Isn’t there a danger there that the insurance firm will put you on “L driver trainer” and assume you circle the world twice a year for milage, and get 5 cars written off by your pupils?
“Certainly Sir - Your premium for 2012-13 will be £8499.99 and that is all inclusive you lucky people!”
(I only want to insure an old banger FFS!)
Santa:
As I understand it the insurers ‘load’ LGV drivers not because they are bad drivers but because they are out and about at silly O clock, which makes them more liable to be making a claim.NEVER try to pull the wool over their eyes - in the evnt of a serious claim they will find you out and refuse to pay.
If you are young, then adding your mum (assuming her licence is clean) onto the policy as an extra driver can sometimes reduce the premium.
Find out what? - I thought it was us drivers being worried about being conned by insurance firms here?
It’s not as if I were going to over-insure a scania I don’t have, and then throw bricks at it in the yard & claim?
(I woudn’t have the heart to!)

NO!
ROSPA also do post test training for drivers ,its a matter of trying to persuade an insurance firm that you are better than most.Do this and they will expect to profit from doing business with you.Insurance CO,S advertise in the newsletters and magazines that IAM and ROSPA put ou t,young drivers in particular could find it to be the difference between driving and walking.
Silver_Surfer:
Totally ridiculous, a lot of them don’t like that you are a hgv driver even though you are basically bar police pursuit drivers the most experienced driver on the road. How does that work then.
Perhaps they look in on sites like this, note the number of rants about nearly missing dozy car drivers, and the frequent admissions by artic drivers that they can’t drive a rigid.
Just a thought.

Yeah, likewise. My Passat also has star ship milage on it, every panel has a scratch on of some sort and inside the back looks like i breed pigs init because of my dogs. Its maybe worth 2.5 grand if im very lucky— hardly prestige league i wouldnt have thought!

They know all the dodges like using a mate’s address because he lives in a cheaper post code; not telling them about the wire wheels, blacked out windows and go-faster stripes; getting your dear old mum to insure it and name you as a driver; understating your mileage; ‘forgetting’ to mention those three points you got in 07 for a dodgy tyre - need I go on?
If you think that drivers don’t try to con the insurance companies then you are living in cloud cuckoo land.
I was refused insurance for my 2004 mercedes sprinter camper van, the reason? Well 2 reasons actually 1) I wanted to insure it for £6k, the insurer said it was worth considerably more. 2) I said I was an unemployed LGV1 driver, the woman said you cannot be both, you are either ‘unemployed’ or you are an ‘LGV1’ driver. In the end I went with those little furry fella’s for £330. Simples.
Tiger.
i was insured with e-choice(RSA),£181 fully comp, protected no claims,7 yrs no claims, with my wife as a named driver on a alfa 156 2.5 v6,when my renewal came they wanted nearly double!!! i asked why and they said “all insurance” has gone up?.So i went back online and was quoted £191…by guess who???e-choice■■? now how does that make sense?.
I’m through Churchill and £380 a year fully comp on a 60 plate Astra Vxr got 5 years no claims as well. Searched through confused.com
Wealthy friend has a year 2000 Rolls Royce Silver Seraph. Last year on a limited mileage FC policy with me as a named driver £300. Renewal - no changes - wait for it - £1500!!!
I went on the meerkat site and got quotes from £104 to £16068 for a 98 Felicia.

you have a bmw AND a caravan …what time does your butler serve tea
£541
Through a comparison web site. Basically you have to get quotes from different firms before accepting your renewal each year as they will try and shaft you each and every year you stay with the same firm even with no claims at all. It’s a shame this goes on but that’s business I suppose, what I don’t understand is why they don’t just hammer the people that claim & have accidents and leave the rest of us alone. I suppose you’d just get loads of muppets who can’t afford their insurance and not bother at all then or are we already there?
Bit of a difference with a house move to a nicer area and the motoring offence lapsing after 5 years, Down from over 2 grand.
I’m 31, 12 Years unblemished no claims, C+E, no points.
My insurance on my 2003 2.0 TDCI Mondeo last year was £494 Comprenhensive.
Added my 54 year old Father in law to the policy who will never even ride in my car, let alone drive it and the price is now £317
Unbelieveable, really
couple of years ago we had my father in law living with us,wemoved house during this time and had to change address details for insurance, his went up/ my went down bot insures said it was the change in area??

I’ve often said that they should scrap ‘fully comp’ insurance.
If people driving 15 grands worth of car knew that if they ■■■■■■ up, they’d be 15 grand out of pocket, they’d not drive like complete twonks.
For me, fully comp is cheaper than 3rd party, or 3rd party fire and theft, but it’s still a rip off at over £700 last/this year and quotes coming in over £800 for the coming year, even though I’ve now got an extra years no claims, I’m now over 35yrs old, my insurance is going up by over £100■■
