Been driving past there today (aylesford) and it all seems business as usual - except the agency work seems to have dried up at C&H for the time being. Plenty of work at other firms on the same estate though.

Hehe. Looks like it was a good week not to be there then. Hope he didn’t do anything detrimental to his licence or health though…
well it will be very interesting to see who wants C&H (hauliers)ltd as they have zero assets no property and all previous contracts are in the open for everyone ! the paper industry is in a poor state, the new palm paper factory has now decided to auction loads on their website from the kings lynn site !! aylesford newsprint is on the point of closure due to profit margins, the best work out of the enterprise terminal for stora enzo at tilbury, was exclusive to C&H, untill they lost it after a breakdown in contracts ! a very sorry state of affairs !!!
Well someone does.Because it’s all signed and sealed. As for the Contracts. They are not in the open for everyone either.I agree the paper industry is in a bad way.Palm paper has always auctioned I’s loads out.But we have the contract out of there to supply Didcot and also news international . Aylesford newsprint has 3yrs to get itself sorted. An american investment company brought it last year.Oh we also have the norske and holman paper contract. So all in all.Not really that much of a sorry state of affairs.
and very good luck with it admin ! after 120 od years ! David Smyth hit the nail on the head , i asked him have you had enough /when he retired he said C&H has had enough !! sometimes you gotta know when to stop chasing somthing thats not their ! the creams all gone , and il lay odds on news internationals money is keeping the shop open ! only for the shotgun trailers !!!
walking floors !! walkers have been doing the job twice as long as you people and cant make it pay ! have you stopped sending three walking floors on those 300 mile mt round trips on bank holidays ? oh and draging mt trailers over to surrey qs to tip ■■? im afraid your getting kaned admin !!! lol
ask steve mercer how much your diesel bill was last month ! and work it out ! not rocket science as they say ! iv seen the rates, running a truck 150 mile mt for a 200quid load but dont worry 3% profit margin youve got erm ! 40 walking floors doing that ish ! and your dead running a pto ! and not getting paid for it !!! god man wake up and smell the roses !
Its a fact news and magazines is a dyinig industury face facts who on the forum buys less papers and mags now than 10 years ago what with sites like this plus online news plus buying the paper online but whos to day c&h wouldnt move along remember thdy fidnt go bust there group owner hD the problems.
KR79 youv hit the nail on the head theirs allot of things i know about C&H but cant go into on here ! it would very likely upset a few ,shall we say special people ! until they are gone and they will go ! all i will say is who will buy a company with dept and no assets ■■? some people in the office thought charles gee had a bottomless pit of money !

What used to go into Surrey Quays now goes into Oliver road, Thurrock.
I dunno what all this talk about margins is all about, as there seems to be high demand for paper at its current floating price (middle of its historic range I’m told) which makes me wonder if there’s another coup on the way akin to the grangemouth closure - “Ooh we’re losing so much money - can we steal your pension pot, and get you to sign up for a pay cut please?”
You’ll excuse me if I raise a few eyebrows at this point…

275 curtain siders trailers are an asset even if you value them at 5k each that 1.3 mill then ther is 40 walking floor trailers some will be paid off some will be still on tick but their will be equity in those prob another 1mill their . You say walkers been doing walking floors much longer and not making money we’ll look at Williams they have been doing it longer still and they seem to be doing ok .the mill has been doing well under the new management and has even re rerecruted people and their is talk of them turning one of the lines over to brown paper. I think the many interested parties thought their was value to C&H along with the one that went forward to actually purchase the company .of course every firm has to make the odd unprofitable run and of course drivers will ■■■■ up in taking wrong trailers and the surrey quays one you talk about I’m sure was an agency driver assuming he was collecting fron their . Do you not think when tendering for these contracts they factor in that they won’t get any where near the amount of out loads to get them near to the waste sites and quote accordingly .as for being retained for the shogun trailers we’ve been told they a reverting to the old system
275 trailers eh ! let me tell you when C&H lost the stora enzo contract they had so many trailers to deal with, they had em cut up ! or flat decked for exsport ! they where indeed owned by them! and in such a poor condition where being sold for 900 notes each !!! also all the mercedes tractor units will go ,all on contract hire ,also the so called new curtainsiders that where ordered are no good, nobody thought to look at the tare weight !! they cant carry a full load of reels !!! good management call their , the fiasco goes on and on just a catalog of bad calls , when their own drivers start to question the traffic planning , you know its not good,as for williams i cant comment looks to be a well run company to me goin in the the right direction, run by management that know how to run transport,
