Most firms with specialist trailers will cut them up rather than sell them to a competitor .
the new trailers granted are a bit on the heavy side and as I’m sure you know have been modified to reduce their weight and the next batch (if they come) have had this adressed .no one is saying C&H are perfect and don’t ■■■■ up and drivers every where question planning and have had arguments myself but we don’t always see the full picture . The new owners are saying carry on as normal and even if the new mercs do go that’s no great loss they will just get replaced with the mark the new owners already run . It’s already been said on here that C&H are making reasonable profit so no matter what ■■■■ ups they may have made as long as they are making a £ more than they are spending there’s no great problem is their

Enough speculation - C&H hasn’t gone bust, but it’s owned by a firm that has. This means that the whole process of “does it close” or “does it stay open as normal” is based upon what contracts C&H continue to hold right now (eg News International) which with those specialist trailers is NOT going to get jumped into by another firm in a hurry - regardless of weather C&H are running that as a “loss leader” which I doubt too somehow.

I can’t see how “selling it off to pay Charles Gee’s Creditors” is viable, if the firm has a net value close to zero, as has been suggested on this thread.
“Too close to break-even to muck about selling it or closing it” because every time you make a move one way or the other, you spend and lose even more money…

That’s why second hand car dealers don’t sell the type of cars I buy for example (good ones at cheap prices!)
The value of anything these days is either (1) how much money it can make for YOU in which case, you might not bother selling it at all, or (2) How USEFUL it is to you, ie. saves you money on your other businesses in some way… Buy and hold in other words. “Buy and break up” is only viable as a loss leader for some giant like Nobby Dressingtables who might want to buy (and overpay!) for the trailers - just to take them away from their competitors! :open_mouth:

Sounds to me like there are some people on here with sour grape syndrome perhaps an ex employee that wants to get back but is not wanted.
they are still going so its going to be a time of wait and see what happens.

I don’t know what you know mate I’m just a driver there and 90% of what goes on we don’t see and have no need to see . But any ■■■■ ups or cover ups will have been for Charles gee to deal with not the new owners weather it is who’s been mentioned or not .all we know it’s been purchased to run separately from the parent companies with the existing management that all we’ve been told. I just hope the people at Charles gee that lost their jobs find something soon

If downtowns get the work believe me the 3brothers will have done their home work they won’t touch it if it ain’t profitable that’s why they are one of the biggest private hauliers in the uk and growing year on year

Yes I do .I’ve had dealings with a few of the Charles gee people (not the money men although they made an appearance on the departure on one of their high profile movements) but the people that made contracts happen and work and also their man in Russia and I promise you I would not want different people on my side when heading a load with a combined value of over £100 million to Russia by road .I am sure these people will be snapped up by another forwarder very quickly that’s if C&H don’t eventually find them a role in the future

know wonder this is called knobnet ! you have so many ■■■■■ that love to coment , and havnt a frickin clue ! charles gee are currently paying port along side fees , for frieght they have in a russian port that they cant get the importer to pay the taxes on ! and are stuffed with it, first hand from the fella whos dealing with it !!! charles gee took on some get rich quick work into russia !!! while the russian people that droped it new the real deal !!! and sat back and watched ! combined value on the SONY trailer that went to russian for goods in transit makes it look good on paper !! make a claim and see what happens !

Regardless of if CL go under, lets hope that as many jobs as possible are saved fingers crossed for all affected! you may get 10p an hour less than normal or whatever but hey you will still have a job good luck all staff affected!!!

The value of the trailers that went to Russia is freely available on the people who built the trailers and the people that brought the trailers websites and obviously will not have been insured for that value prob only for the cost of the build hence the heavy security that went with each load. what is sat on a quay somewhere in Russia will have had sweet f.a so do with C&H .Typed from my home iPad on my home I.p address lol
