Might be doing a few nights out soon and whereas before my tablets 10 hours battery is very ample for use everyday in the truck I may need to charge it. Anyone know what the deal is with charging it in a truck ? Thanks.
PS. I do charge my phone using the 24v socket which I know you shouldn’t really but it works, however I really think it would cause problems with a tablet.
Does it charge off of a USB connection? If so, that’d be a 5v connection, and there are plenty of adapters out there. Just make sure you get the 12-24 connectors and use that method.
Got a variety of 12v and 5v devices and the adapters to cope in my work bag. The Kindles use 5v USB (Micro USB) to charge also.
I got a universal charger from Maplin’s (code A92JH) which comes with different tips for different uses - it charges both my portable DVD player and my tablet. However, there are two main points to watch:
1: You need to select the right tip, polarity & voltage for each use
2: It only works off 12v, not 24v - take it from me, 24v makes it lose all it’s smoke!
Unless it’s a gippo tablet standard 500mA usb chargers take an age, so get a 1.5A or 2A charger. On the plus side if your phone is the same connector it will charge off it really fast!
This is what i use, goes straight into the 12v, charges my ipad and iphone, only a couple of quid off ebay
I have the same thing but in a daf xf the normal cigarette plug is a 24v and the other newer style is a 12v. I didn’t want to fry my tablet by plugging it into the piggy lighter but need to make sure before I buy yet another adapter for the 12v output. No doubt I’ll change trucks again as soon as I buy it

The old tomtom miniusb plugs used to push 5v 2a at the device… I think its toned down now alas
Get yourself a 300w inverter and a 4 way plug socket from asda, that’s what I use you can charge your phone, tablet and numerous other devices works a treat.
I don’t think I’ve ever even looked at volts/ampages etc. I just plug everything into a TomTom fast charger. I plug it into whatever is available in the truck I’m in, and it has two USB spaces - I charge my sat nav, phone, hands free, iPad. Maybe I’ve just been lucky! Got me worried now…
O2 shops do a belkin twin USB iPhone charger with a lead for £13. I use the plug bit (cause it can take 24v) and leave the lead (older apple style and my devises have the new lightning chargers) This was I use USB leads to charge, company PDA. iPad. iPhone. Tomtom. Bluetooth earpiece and any other items that charge from USB.
Charge 2 things at once.
Also your local pound land do a 5 way USB multi charger. It’s a USB plug with all different USB designs for all different products. I use this to charge the PDA and earpiece from one USB socket and the other socket is busy running the tomtom.

Likewise, I use this running out of the 24v to charge my phone or kindle, and the NavGav. Never had a problem with it, I paid 2.99 at a Moto service station for mine.
I use this for charging everything. ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Cigarette … 4aa25c7c97
its plugged into the 24v on a daf cf and I’ve never had a problem. Its 5amp from the usb and charges anything with a usb plug.
Well let me give you a heads up. My tablet is a Samsung galaxy tab 2 and I had to swap it a week after I got it. I thought that as it’s basically just a big phone that I could plug it into my usb cigarette lighter plug just like the Samsung galaxy phone I have. Next thing I know is that it stops charging. I took it back a and told them it wouldn’t charge. I don’t think they would have swapped it if I’d have told them this story. I’m now terrified of plugging it in in the truck. If you plug this tablet into a computer using the usb lead it only connects as a media device and does not charge like your phone would. I have a 300 watt inverter which I plug my laptop into but the whole idea of me buying this tablet was for ease of carrying it around, I may have also been able to leave the inverter out of my bag as well as my laptop and leads !
your charger in the truck wasnt up to charging it ie it was pumping out the wrong mA had the same issue with me htc 8x using the sat nav get a tomtom high power charger no problems now
