Changing Careers Due To Redundancy

I have already booked in for the medical, can I use the 10% discount against the cost of the driving course?

What sort of time scale am I looking at from completing the medical to getting started on the driving course?

Sorry about the slow response; missed the question previously. Yes, the discount applies to everything you do with us but please ask for it at the time of booking. Time scale depends on how quickly DVLA issue your licence and then how long it takes to get and pass theory tests. But, as a very rough guide, around 5 or 6 weeks from medical to starting CAT C.

Hope this helps, Pete

Thanks for the info Pete.

Massively thinking ahead here but I was curious what would be considered the best kind of work for a newbie to start on?

I got work a couple of weeks after passing class1, I did this by asking anyone I knew in driving if they had any contacts and applying for anything that I fancied doing. Result, Job doing hours that I want in a decent truck and for money I am happy with.

Just go for it and dont give up!

Any work thats going to give you some practical experiance from either companies or agencies, that are willing to take on a newbie
It also is down to which licence you hold at the time… the question you have to ask yourself at 47 going on 48 are you fit, fit enough to be ■■■■■■■ a swag all day on multi drop stuff…working long hrs to achieve something of a decent wage.

Also just out of interest are you going to be training on a manual or auto ?

Aiming to pass C+E.

A bit of hard work doesn’t put me off and I am still fit enough to do it.

Manual unless one is not available.

Cheers :sunglasses:

Great to hear a nice positive success story!

Pleased it all worked out good for you, I have decided to ‘go for it’ - hopefully I will soon be able to report back on another happy outcome.

I am being made redundant 4 months from now & thinking about changing careers to LGV driving.
I am 47 and located in the Nottinghamshire area.

Thoresby pit?

One of you gents can have my job if you like, just as soon as Auntie Beeb rings me up to replace Clarkson.

A motorcycling trucker, who can moan for England, with views on immigration and culture would be just the man to fill his suede loafers.

In fact, I could turn up in my work gear and be better dressed than him.

I’ll also be revising the “star in a reasonably priced…” bit.

There will be 27 tonnes to transport to the other end of the track. Depending on what licence the guest has, they can have a Sprinter, 7.5, a rigid or an artic. That’d sort the men out from the boys
