Changes to the Drivers Hours Rules

One of our drivers was told this week that the Drivers’ Hours rules are changing this year, the maximum day will become 13 hours and the minimum rest will be 11 hours, i.e no reductions allowed. He asked me if I had heard anything about it.

I said no, and thought it sounded like bovine excrement, but does anyone know if this has any basis in fact?

It may have been wishful thinking on your colleagues part.

Try calling the people that make up these rules to confirm the rumour.
Dont listen to crap off a driver and then ask other drivers to confirm this crap as they will more than likely talk more crap.
I hope that smells, I mean helps (to much crap got me confused  )

One of your drivers is an idiot.

Thankyou.

No, he isn’t an idiot, he was told it by two drivers from another company on Le Shuttle and he asked me if it was true. A fairly new driver is not an idiot simply because he was told something and then asked somebody twice his age, who has been driving a truck for exactly 25 times as long as he has, whose advice he has previously appreciated, if that information is true.

Same as I’m not an idiot for asking here if it is true.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer.

I hope that helps.

there was something like that put before the europeian parliment a while ago but it was thrown out as unworkable :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

It does. Given the extra information and his newbie status I retract my comment.

You really need to warn him of the peril in listening to anything on the train though. It’s just an RDC waiting room on rails.

heard this from a driver at our place as well! But checked on vosa website and nothing at the moment,so agree, rdc rumour

It’s been around since about 2009 and it has always been said it was happening ‘this year’.

That’s gonna b-gger me up with my 2x15 hour shifts per week! :frowning:

…Just think how many jobs would become impossible though, with all those trampers already having been got rid of! :sunglasses:

Whatever happens, you can bet the firm’s way around it will be to get you to work for 15 hours, and pay you for 13. by having 2 hours POA written into your job!

You can’t turn a 13 hour shift into 15 hours by using two hours of POA at the moment so why do you think it will be possible after the rules change?

Dont think it matters about POA,as i cant see anywhere Working Time reduced to 13 Hour a Shift. As long as you stay with Driving Time legal and having sufficient Break,…

We I’m all for a max 13 hr day and 11 hr rest It’s about time we had shorter hours, let’s face it most places nowadays do a max 12 hr shift. We do max 12 hr night shift at our place.

Yup 13 hour days are plenty long enough. If ya cant earn a wedge for 13 hours then move on to a firm that will pay one.
Being in charge of a “killing machine” whilst working 15 hours and reducing breaks to 9 hours is madness.

Wishfull thinking though cos its never gunna happen! :unamused:

So, sarcasm aside, are the rules changing or not

Serious answers appreciated - as opposed to rumour. Thankyou.

I must admit that 9 hours is enough for me, i’d be happy with 8. 11 hours rest in a truck bores the ■■■■■ out of me.

I’m the same. Even taking into account going out for a pie and a pint, and then getting a decent sleep I struggle to use more than 8 hours. 11 is just torture unless parked somewhere interesting.

About time too !!
so many company’s out there are taking the P.SS :grimacing:
It all makes sense to me and when nearly all company’s pay by day rate not by the hour… :unamused:

sounds like something off stobbies trucks and trailers.

I do think the whole 24 hour spreadover is a bit nuts. the longer you work the shorter the rest? Crazy.
