No i wasnt! I started there on days then went tramping. Most of the work was tesco but when your tramping you get the distribution centres like Livingstone or Magor which means you dont tip it.I hated the general there but then again i like bulk tipper work! For example went to London did a trailer change then had to go to Coca Cola but when i got there i didnt have time to load and get out and have time to find somewhere to park so rung the planner.Got told go in next morning load and tip at Northampton then ring up so i did.You should have seen the amount of phone calls the next day that i got because i was late it was pathetic.Basically they were blaming me when it was the planners fauly for not allowing time.If your mate gets the job he will have to go on a three day course where you get shown everything from coupling a trailer up the stobart way to using the daft phone system.A pain but you get paid and they pay for the hotel for you with an evening meal! I went to Crick but a mate of mine was told he would have to go to Widnes.
My mate will be looking forward to three days learning how to couple a trailer n unit hes only been at it 27 years
complacency can cost you your job/ life if you take your eye off the ball for one minute! 27 years or 27 mins! don’t underestimate the truck driver! never say NEVER!
Your not wrong but my mate knows everything about everything anyway.
your mate knows everything about everything hmmm, not exactly a driver I would want to employ … a been there done it got t-shirt nonsense, not liking change etc, he prob wont like working their, but I think it is actually you who wants to apply but to embarrassed to admit you want to work for ole eddie lol,
If it makes you feel any better “boss” i have been turned down by stobarts TWICE (goole and sherburn) and reed boardall TWICE and applied for over 50+ jobs since november. Just got off the phone from an independent builders merchant 15 mins down the road who sounded positive, interview tomorrow at 2.30pm, not what i wanted but a jobs a job nowadays, just keep your head down and game on brother.
Boss & Driver:
There might be work out there but there must be 50 applicants to every job
so what chance dose any one stand 50 to 1
HA
there may well be 50 applicants for every job but that does not mean theyll all be intrested when there told
1.there start time is 1 a.m on a sat/sun day time
2. there stert time is 7 pm on sat/sun evening
3. there told there shift pattern included 2 w/end shifts
4 its a day/night shift not tramping
5. its tramping and they wants day shifts
6. they want days and there being offered nights
7. they want nights and there being offered days.
8. they get told wages
9. they get told there on less for a year than drivers already there
etc,etc,etc
just because someone applies doesnt mean theyll take the job, when it was corby i applied, went for interview and turned it down as they were offering nights, the 2 other lads who came also turned it down as they both wanted mon-fri and they were offered friday-saturday,a couple of weeks later they belled me up,said theyd now got a vacancy on days and i took the job,id bet IF there are 50 applicants for every job[im not convinced there are] then a fair % would soon loose intrest when t+c,s,hours, shifts get discussed.
I worked for Stobart’s many year’s ago ('90-'96), when they were a good company to work for(& a lot smaller with no Tesco work). If I was In your shoe’s I’d probably go for a job there just to get the experience. Who know’s ,you might like It there.

At the moment stobart running different type of scheme.
You can get job with them pretty easy in 2 different ways
Way #1
They are replacing their irish base fleet so all trucks going back to UK
Buy 2007-2008 used stobart truck at around 14k and sign contract for 5 days work
Way #2
All driving jobs are on offer 24/7 at number of agencies all you have to do is to find one that offer stobart job, go for driving exam if you pass you have “temporary” (for years) job with stobart via agency.
As far as I know they are running Agency Employment Scheme and thats the only way to get job with stobart at the moment, I believe they deal with agencies to reduce drivers working rights and job stated as temporary placement so they have better control over your employment matters.
My mate working for them for the last year under temporary position via agency full time.
AMAZING,you say theyll only take you on as a temporary agency driver, yet theyve just employed fulltime drivers, there putting lists of o/t shifts up to try and get the employed drivers to work them so they dont have to use agency,if theres a shift, time you specifically want at short notice there only too happy to tipex the agency out and put you in,it wasnt long ago at a cpc course the d/t was nigh on begging us to work extra hours,a casual driver wasnt given a shift, found out agency was in,rang up a ,[zb] hit fan and he was told to ring if it happened again, and theyd sort it.
maybe its a depot /division thing, but it seems really strange to me ours want there own drivers doing the work[cheaper],orders from above, and then you mates saying the depot he work at only want agency
Apparently it happening to their Irish base depot both Ballymun and Donabate when you entering into drivers dispatch office you would see 5 different agency sheets on the counter to sign you in and out
My mate said some of agency drivers are working for 2 years on a temporary base, what a joke …
A few weeks ago they had extreme shortage, they took few guys of the street without test and induction course, some of them show up for work in trucksuit & white runners : )
No disrespect I like stobart and their commitment for better place to work but such approach to drivers force make me feel sad.
i work for stobarts through an agency and from what i can tell it works like this
if regular drivers are not availble they will use their casuals then at the bottom of the food chain they will use agency.
Agency drivers are there because their regular drivers only want to work mon-fri whereas the agency driver will fill the weekend/sick/holiday and out of hours work.
The chances of you getting mon-fri work directly with Stobart is very slim now
today i had a new driver with me,he said there were NINE on there induction at widness, should of been ten but one didnt turn up,the new lad with me only passed his test 3 months ago, very little experiance of driving but very/very keen to learn,as he said hed tried everywhere, couldnt get a start, interview or even a reply to his applications, phone calls, knocking on doors.said hed just about gave up.the biggest thing i noticed with him is how thankfull he is for every bit of advice you give him, couldnt say thankyou enough.if he came over the same way to the folks who interviewed him i can understand why he got a job,his attitude would be a credit to any firm he worked for and a credit to himself
so to any of the young kids whove read some of these posts on here that there not taking on,youve no chance if you have no experiance,id think again, give it a shot, but make sure you give the same impression this youngun did to me,polite, well manered, desperate to learn and make a success of himself, takes alot to get some praise out of me,im normally thank god the days over with, but i thoughly enjoyed today, one kid i hope makes it

I think thats was the idea when stobart start hiring agency drivers but is turn to be that most of agency drivers are working 5 days sometimes 6 days out of 7 day week for years.
Questions is there a job available on a permanent basis or it’s much easy to hire without string attached?

Stobart rules are apply to every Depo minimum 2 years of experience (on your drivers licence) before they will look at your CV.

W.T.F,i just stated the KID i had with me today passed his TEST 3 months ago,not 2 zb years ago,and then you say stobarts wont take you on if you havent got 2 years on your c.v,your talking ■■■■■■■■.
IF ANYONES READING THIS ,YOUNG KID,JOBLESS OR WHATEVER,THEY ARE TAKING ON,THEY ARE TAKING ON YOUNG KIDS,GIVE IT AGO IF YOU CANT FIND BETTER,YOU MAY OR MAY NOT GET A JOB,BUT YOU CERTAINLY WONT IF YOU TAKE NOTICE OF SOME OF THE ■■■■ ON THIS THREAD,NOT TAKING ON,ONLY AGENCY,MUST HAVE 2 YEARS EXPERIANCE ETC,ETC ■■■■■■■■.
n.b to moderators, ban me,put me on pre mod or whatever,im out of here ive had enough, this forums meant to be about helping the young kids, unemployed drivers ,giving help to find jobs etc etc, this thread just illustrates with the crap thats been allowed to be sprouted that the days of trying to help drivers with the correct info to try and give them a shout of a job are long gone.

Hey Mate, why are you so emotionally distress? You shouldn’t work for stobart with such attitude : ) friendly laugh
I will take a few picture over next few days to show you a few racked stobart trucks and why they have policy not to employ drivers without minimum 2 years of experience.

Rab! Widnes will be Tossco store deliveries so very easy work! Just follow Tescos Risk assessment sheet for each store you tip and you won’t go wrong!
Don’t quit in the first month! Like most do cause they can’t get their heads around the Isotrak and it’s use! You should get a 2 day induction anyway! So not really in at the deep end! Good Luck!
