Celebs and HGV Licence

Chris Barrie (Rimmer from Red Dwarf/Brittas from Brittas Empire). Never had him down as a petrol head, but their he was swarming all over engines in a prog on channel 5 the other night with obvious glee. Also showed him driving a Volvo 620 on I assume Volvos test track, and looking like he was halfway competant at it with a heavy haulage low loader on. Fred Dibnah he ain’t,
but it set me wondering how many other celebs have their HGV licences. Anyone we know?

Rowan Atkinson does and is a keen Trucker to this day.

Also seen Tiff Needell on the queens highway in a Foden so I guess he must have too!

We all know the man who crashed his outside No 10 Chris Eubank, He also passed me on the M25 the other week

:open_mouth: Princess Anne used to drive Horseboxes, so only a rigid licence I would think.

~~ I’m just imagining ‘Mr Bean’ driving an artic.~~

Peter Duncan, He of Blue Peter & Flash Gordon fame has his. I seem to remember he got so he could do some truck racing. (Might not be classed as famous though)

The bloke who does the voice of David Archer (from the Archers) and who also did the voice of Roger, the dogs’ owner in 101 Dalmations part 2.

I think we’re scraping the barrel now though…

Does he though?

Remembering the discussion on this board about driving solo units on various different licences, he might not have/need a Cat C or C+E.

plus you got ma wife laughing thanks

Didn’t HRH the queen drive lorries for the army during the war?

Tim Healy (Dennis in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet) has at least a Class 2, as he had to pass the test to drive the bin wagon when he stared in the comedy/drama Common as Muck.

Dame Kelly Holmes ( when she was in the army)

no he dosen’t the fifth (sp) wheel has been removed on his peterbilt
and I know that because Steve (atkig11) used to drive his lorry for him

pam

Not quite so famous as you guys would recognise him, unless your into motorsport, but former world rally driver Markku Allen was driving one of the support trucks on this years Dakar,so I’m wondering if he has one.

Ken.

You can drive a tractor unit, as long as the 5th wheel is disabled from coupling to a trailer on an old car licence (the old 7.5 ton rules) No idea what it is now.

You had to have class one to race a truck , but now you only need a licence for a 7.5 ton truck

Bloke who plays PC Stamp in the bill has C+E.

I’ve got mine as well, but I’m not famous yet!

Surely if it weighs over 7.5 tonnes (which it must do, by a long way), then it needs an HGV licence anyway?

Vince

nah, quite a few tractor units with 5th wheel removed weigh < 7.5t

Matt Baker from BLUE PETER is currently in the progress of getting his class 1. He was at truckfest last year in the main ring driving a truck around

Eubank has got at least Class 2 - he trained with Hills of Plumpton and had a lot of failures at Lancing test centre.

I’m not sure if Jeremy Clarkson has C+E.

I’ve got a marketing video from when the 4 series Scania was introduced and he drives all the trucks in the video. He looked competent enough to have a licence.
