CB Radio

Just wondering weither people still use CB Radios and if so we dont you all use the same channel.

Used to, not had one for years, just too full of crap nowadays.

it’s a useful aid and does get used alot when VOSA are on the prowl in the surrounding area!!

i also though that we could use a channal just for this website so we know where each other are and can help each other out with vosa ect.

I have 1 fitted in the wagon and have it switched all day but sometime i could go a few hours without hearing anyone. i have had one in all my wagons

i will be getting one when ive finished my training has anyone got any recomendations where to get a kit with everything I need and which one to go for and I think everyone on here using the same channel is a good idea reading through some of the threads on here and listening to some of the stories my old man tells me it seams that the trucker togetherness is going out of trucking now

A lot of truckers help each other but like any profesion, you get ■■■ wipes and pee takers, or them one that no understady the english, I met an Italian guy at thurrock one day askig me in broken english where some place was showed me the paperwork and it had an address in oxford, and kept pointing to a place on the map that was nowhere near oxford, so I kept tellin himno oxford here and pointin, did’nt seem to believe me he toddled off and asked another driver, maybe he thought I was trying to send him on a goose chase

A lot of trucks are now pre wired with 12volt feed and co ax cable! Normally behind a panel just above drivers sun visor! However its best to check that you’ve got the right voltage supply as you dont want to go blowing up your brand new rig now do you!
A lot of trucks also have factory fitted aerials too, but they aint up to much, the best aerial i’ve found is the stinger! Easy to pick out as they have what looks like a coiled up spring at the bottom, they also stand up to quite a bit of abuse ie, trees, truck washes etc. Some posters on here will beg to differ but go for what you’re happiest with…

As for the cb itself, i’m not sure what to advise, I use a Midland 48plus, which i’ve had at least 10 years now! And it still works like new! Be careful where you buy from as specialist truck shops are very expensive!
Good Luck

I think CB is like Marmite you either love em or hate em,
Me I dont like them, but I love Marmite.

Can anyway tell me how the law stands on holding a CB mike in your hand, When If you hold a mobile phone and have it on speaker your breaking the law.

10-4 COMEONBACK. :unamused:

Perfectly legal.
I used to have a link to the section that was on the internet about it but cant find it now.
The wireless telegraphy act or something or other.
Im sure someone will come along with the link…

my dads truck and all of the others in the company are fitted with em, makes conversation when running together i guess

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, could be a useful tool if out on the road, getting updates about vosa, speed traps, traffic, help finding a depot or rdc drop point etc etc.

Found a link here for the op

yeah i got a cobra with a wilson 5000 aerial going thru sumat that it shudnt but i can speak to my mate from ripon on his homebase when am traveling down m6 from about j40 till near j36, but most of time i sit and lisin n never speak as it’s full of idiots now and other drivers dont (or rarely warn you) of when vosa or traffic car is about

I’ve got a Harrier CBX with a K40 aerial, Bloody brilliant bit of kit.

I wouldn’t be without it now, I’ve had a rig since I started driving in 1996.
I am on tippers so in and out of quarries all the time so do use it a lot, nearly all of the blokes I work with have one too.

Had one in the truck years ago but got rid cos it was full of fanny’s and ned’s.
But just recently fitted one cos I needed to talk to the ■■■■■■ when I was doing a wide load up the west coast , a neat wee midland unit that runs on either 12 or 24v. I works great but apart from the occasional driver it’s still full of ned’s and fanny’s.

if you travel down the m73 ye hear plenty bile comin over the airwaves from the glesga massive lol, i better get new battries for my cockrell alarm clock as it be wind up time goin down there and past carlisle too lol

A farmer friend of ours uses CB on the farm where we have our caravan. The only problem is when he (and his staff) need it , its in the Sporadic E season (May to September) and they get blown off by foreign SSB if they are trying for more than about 5 miles range.
Talking between the Combine Harvester and the tractors carting the corn away no problem (Similar to tipper wagons )

   that wud be telling

Have mine on and my big bridge hitting arial picks up well… run on 19 but i must say despite all the trucks that seem to have them fitted most only turn them on when they hit traffic asking whats going on… you try to spark a convo up but then they switch it off when they get the answer to thier question. Best one i had was a few months ago the m1 was shut south at j9 talking to a old boy on home base and a taxi driver… we all helped each other negociate a alternate route

If i could understand the irish better i’d run on am 19 but i really struggle sometimes so gave up. You can talk all day on that and they all are friendly.

I love my cb and hate it when mot days come lol
