I had a few nights out with Gaylord on the A74 run, he was a real comedian and sure used to fire some of the scots lads up. I remember following him down one day and he had them climbing the walls. They were trying to find out what he was driving. When we reached the M6 he told them he was going past junction ■■ driving a pink reliant robin pulling a 40ft caravan. Met him at Tebay as I was setting off on Holiday with my wife and her sister, he had them both in stitches with mascara running down their cheeks from laughing. Great start to the holiday, what a guy, can’t remember his mates name who he used to run with a lot of the time. What else but The Yorkshireman.
There used to be a breaker called Battery Top,he was homebased on Leckhampton Hill above Cheltenham, when he fired up on channel 19 he made the speakers rattle here in Mid Wales,he was in a good place, with a good set up.
The Yorkshireman if you go on to CB Eyeballcards and Crazy Truckers, you will see several things I wrote about Gaylord.
Several of us shared post office box to give send cards to after copying other breakers, this was our card which we sent back, did belong to a couple of othe clubs as well.
Cheers Dave.
Bully for you Dave, or is it a load of "Bulls**t, no joking apart it was a grand part of our lorry driving life, I had fun and it was a joy to go to work, and I used my Cb to get help from Robert in Crawford a few times when on the Bulwark tankers, one time I was between there and Moffat with a blown tyre, and I got someone to phone them for me, and it was in the winter and snow was regular up there.
Used to go under the “Handle” BUSYBEE when I worked at Bees Transport, Morley. Used to wind some of the idiots up with my “plankin” handle MAJOR BUMSORE, come n sit on me knee luvvy talk about the first thing to pop up. Any one remember “Fisherman” Eddie, in Sheffield, him, Pirate, and a few more used to give directions in the City, Sadly Eddie passed away last year, only in his 40’s i believe. Also remember a trucker who used to wind everyone up, ■■? Charley, can’t remember his full moniker, but he’d have every one at him.
Yep I remember bee’s transport, also remember your wind up handle,If my memory don’t let me down, you was in your 20/30 bracket, I recall a chap with dark hair with a big grin on his face when we would pass each other, you had a few of your lads on the c/b.
hi,
any of you london bound night trunkers in the early eighties remember STICK IN THE MUD her name was margaret, her house backed onto the m1 near scratchwood services. she used to make badges with your handle on them ,used to order them one night and collect them the next, she used to hop over her back fence a hide them behind the emergency phone on the hard shoulder where we would stop and pick them up she used to drive a tipper, hence her handle.
cheers diesel
Does anyone remember EARLY RISER and his missus CORN DOLLEY at the Lichfield 20? He worked at Bison Concrete at one time and they were both in poor health a few years ago. Us Tilcon lads used to chat to them on our “home channel” 12 but they were both regulars on 19, I wonder if they are still alive and kicking?
Pete.
Hi Pete,
We had an Early Riser this way,he was one of Nash Rocks eight wheeler drivers, his wife was Golden ■■■■■■■ their homebase, both retired and still around, not many on homebase CB these days. I still use mine to talk to the quarry boys also got a rig in one of my vans.
Cheers Dave.
My CB handle was “THE JOKER,” I choose this as a tribute to my great-grandfather who was a comedian on the “Titanic.” He went down well !!!
Regards to all Haddy, Gt. Yarmouth.

She made me a little badge in the shape of a plastic bag … no less, I thought she was quite fit
My Dad was “the Station Master”!
CB handles, they go back a long way don’t they. I started using the handle Tristar. I worked night trunk for tNT & they started a service called Tristar.I picked it up & it stuck to me. I still use it now.
I ran with some wonderful pople over the years. Birdman TNT, Motorola TNT, Brandyman TNT,Devon ■■■■ TNT, Ten Speed Baileys,Chokechain Magnet & Southern,Fairy liquid Suttons,Red Baron Carpet Express,Paintman & Paintmate Berger,Major Tom HH Williams,Warlock Tibbet & Britten,Chunky ECC,Little white Bull Atlas express, Biffo & Touchwood Crystal, Beanpole, Runner Bean, Broad bean & Redneck from Wilkinson/Federal express. Red Rider Bampton cattle transport, Night Trader. So many others, like Phil dowell TNT, Bill keel TNT Len Valentine TNT all lovely people but it’s a long time ago.
Home bases we used to chat to every night up & down the motorways & across towns were amazing, one or two used to talk to us on the way up & if the weather was bad, they’d stay on until the last one of us had gone back through homeward bound. SAdly a lot of bucket mouthing finished a lot of them & the job’s the loser because of it.
If anyone remembers me, I’d love to get in touch again.
BB
hi basilbrush.
you have brought back some good memories with some of those handles i too was on night trunk,on for ucl, used to meet up with NIGHT TRADER,SMALL PIECE,BIRD MAN, ROCKY,who all drove for wilkies/fedex.i think i spent more time sitting in cafes having a laugh with all these drivers than i did driving
it didnt matter if you stayed too long as with no speed limiters you could soon make up lost time. wonderfull times
cheers diesel
Is that the basil brush, who used to say Boom Boom all the time, if so I have spoke to you many times, " Curlytop" of the Mermaid Squadron.
My dads handle was Olympus, used to run to different Markets and worked for Coolchain. Him and his mate often used to go along talking and he had an orange light just behind the CB in the window and painted the top marker lights on his truck orange aswell so you could tell it was him from a distance away.
From the stories he has told me he had a good laugh, was on it when it was illegal and disguised his radios and antennas. Also used to say he was pulling a caravan and was passed by some people in scandandandias that came flying past him, or something like that
Stopped CB and moved onto amateur when it got full of kids(or something like that)
