CB Handles

wish i had a cb to use at work.

Deisel dan, I have korky eye ball card in my album, it is on my first page, that must have been a long time ago, and I remember the queakies, one used to say he was queaky clean, they just like doing wind ups.

diesel dan:
ref big bopper.
hi steve, i know your handle, do you remember KORKY from finedon, and all the rats from thrapston. ie road rat ,swamp rat, bug rat, etc.
cheers diesel

Korky was the cb name for finedon, then i think it was ron roberts used the name and set up Korky taxis. 10-4
did you ever go to any of the cb club meets? all of our trucks over here have cb,s in them all AM cobras with twin sticks on the mirror arms similar to what we called a firestick, the best thing is all the cb,s have a built in swr meter so there is no need to have a seperate one, catch ya on the flip c’mon 10-10 from the bopper!

hi steve,
as you know in the early eighties we all had different codes for different places . KORKY is /was richard simmons who i believe you know.hence finedon became KORKY TOWN.thapston was rat town etc.we were members of a custum car club from wellingborough and we all had cb,s.some i remember were BANANA,GHOSTRIDER,PINEAPPLE,FLYING ANT,PINK ELEPHANT,PLUTO,SHOESTING,ETC.we were members of wellingborough breakers club and had regular meetings at the merry miller and the nags head.sunday nights we would all drive over to northamton to listen to the BEAR transmiting the latest cb news.happy days.
cheers diesel dan

mate of mine was called "the roadstone cowboy " ran a tipper truck. next guy was called "dirty harry " did nt have a big gun just stank abit.

Well fellows I have just looked at the eyeball card, and it has Korky printed, and a cat sat on a motorbike with a aerial on the back.

hey dan now you have me thinking back, yes of course i know rich or titch as we called him he was amongst the first with cb’s and had a part in the cb shop of mill road with dominic ?, i lived next door to him for a few years and was at school with amanda his wife, and yes he did call himself korky but korky taxis was also started up at that time. the bear from northampton and the club meets i used to go to the one at the dog and duck, so if you were into custom cars do you know kelly gray who moved to the states, he was mates with rich when he had his pop, they tell me rich now has the tire place at sidegate works? what about spiderman from korky?? 10-10

Hi,

Does anyone remember the very first (illegal :open_mouth: ) cb’s in the UK on am, they were only 23 channels with no digital display, you turned a knob with a cut out in it to display the channel number. You could go miles before you found anyone to talk to
Guess its a bit like that today

in the 80s my brother in law had a static caravan at clacton and would go there every w,end he had a lot of mates on this very big caravan site and to communicate with each mainly to tell each other when to go to the pub they all put cb radios in their caravans

You mean the old AM CB’s … there are all we have over here. The legal CB’s in the UK are all FM and in my opinion far better. FM radio waves follow the contour of the earth so if it was quiet on whatever chanel you were on you could talk to people hundreds of miles away, many was the time I would be on the M 62 on Saddleworth moor and chatting to a friend at Leicester Forrest services.

AM radio waves travel in straight lines so hills and the earths curve meant the signal couldnt be heard very far away unless it skipped of the atmosphere, I still get the skip over here regularly and listen to some driver in Texas.

hi
