Hello great thread here is a photo of my father when he worked for E T Adams & Sons livestock hauliers of Cowbridge, South Wales with the livestock body removed with a load of hay on0
Who was your father ted adams was my grandfather I’m David’s son just interested in looking back at these things and if you have any other pictures of our lorries I would be very interested to see them
Like to thank all those who’ve taken the trouble to post the black and white photo’s of those old lorries…Brings back so many memories of the markets in the Hampshire area that I use to go to in the summer holidays in my mates Dads 6 wheeler Thames Trader in the early '60’s. …keep 'em coming…
Cracking thread Neil. I’m a country bloke and seeing those old livestock wagons brings back a lot of memories.
Cheers Dave.
Nowadays I visit Frome Market near Standerwick but grafted this shot from FLA’s web site of the day the old Frome market shut around 1990 with trucks in the background so may be of interest to some of you, Buzzer.
Hi all just bringing the page up to date hoping some one will have some info
JUST BRING THIS PAGE UPSEE IF ANYBODY GOT ANY PHOTOS NEILB
Hi there thanks for the photos nice to see more neil b
To all present and ex cattle truck drivers, what a rewarding ,dirty ,hard working, long hours clothes stinking of ■■■■ and ■■■■■ ,and i loved it,16 hour days ,eat like a horse ,drink as much beer as possible ,yes while working ,sleeping in the luton on the hay or straw,2 log books, one cattle record book for the movments ,chuffed if a farmer gave you a half crown tip.2/6.
Just looking back on this topic gives me the reason to think ,that is how I got in to transport by sheer hard graft, as a cattle transport driver employee, I noticed that the newer boxes do not have the little escape hatch at the front of boxes, so I am thinking no one gets in the boxes with the animals now days, like tying the rope through the BULLS nose ring to the side of the box and you escaping through that little hatch backwards no,health and safety…
There were a lot of large cattle movement haulage companies around not just the local farmer dealer or horse box owner.
IT JUST put a smile back and thoughts of days when life was better in a few ways, not all. keep the old photos coming.dbp.
