What does the law say if a car reaches the end of the on slip? Run on the shoulder to get on? Come to a complete stop?

I’ve seen both
it is not written in law, but it means that the car driver is a complete and utter moron and should not be in charge of a lollypop, let alone a car
The Highway Code clearly states that the motor vehicle joining the main carriageway gives way to the vehicle already on it and should use the slip road to adjust their speed accordingly as to join the main carriageway in a safe manner and not to force other motirists to take avoiding action (can’t remember the correct terminology )

oh, and you have completely missed the third option
to drive straight into the side of the vehicle that they expect to move out of their way
Driving on the motorway
259
Joining the motorway. When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should
give priority to traffic already on the motorway
check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder
stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking
so at a busy J, you should stop at the end and end up pulling out in front of someone? Hmmm… I would argue that one in court I think. Thanks for all the replies. Including the ramming of vehicles, I must try that one some time to see if it’s effective
Funny this post on here at end of a week where i had a car driver just run into side of me whilst joining onto m.way from a slip road, when we both come to a stop on hard shoulder first thing i asked was what the hell do u think you was doing and the car drivers response was ‘i was indicating so you should have moved over’ needless to say i told him to go ram hismself and explained i had no-where to go so he should of adjusted his speed accordingly to join the m.way so he responded by sayin ‘but i was indicating so just pulled out’. I just laughed and said well theres no damage to the truck cos you just run into the wheelstuds av a look at your car minus the rear indicator and paintwork round your rear panel you muppet.Teach him to b more patient and less gung ho mr truck driver has to give way…He has to cos im indicating, lol
See all this moving over pish and flashing in, people now expect it from every lorry which is why they don’t have a fringin clue how to join properly. The only time i move over is if a lorry is struggling up a hill coming onto the motorway. People in general are just thick and expect you to do all the work.
personly i always pull over to 2nd lane when approacing a motorway slip rd junction to save the carnage of any1 that can;t get speed correct for joining although i do think who ever in charge the road works on the m1 ort re think the slip rd coneing off on junction 11 to go north as was always a short slip rd and they have made it even shorter now and if sum1 not willin yield or pull over u easily run out slip road.
Maybe it just my experience that junction of late or others here who have used it may share my view
I don’t know why people don’t just drive on the hard shoulder till it’s safe to join, how people think it’s a good idea to just stop at the end of the slip and try and join from stand still is beyond me. Hope you wasn’t in an fh16 when you got rammed as per your username dude, i’d be weeping after that.

If, for what ever reason, it is not safely possible to join and the slip road has ended then choose the best SAFETY option - in most cases this will be to use the hard shoulder as an unofficial slip road extension.
I have been in this situation where the ONLY space left by those in lane 1 was barely large enough to fit my vehicle into whilst I was on the slip road - not one driver would ease off to make a safe space - got some flashing me to come in but not leaving any safety room !!!
I can usually make the space but this was one instance where no-one would assist and dropping to a 10mph crawl to stay in the slip road would mean a speed differential of about 20 mph - all lanes full with traffic doing between 30 (lane 1) and 40 (lane 3)
For those trying to get from lane 1 to lane 2 was just as safely impossible as no-one seemed to want to ease off for safety

Me too
agreed on usin slip rd till can get in on 1st lane although specially at junc 11 that i mentioned earlyer u don;t have this option it spits u straight into lane one so if can;t make it got no choice to stop or run into side of car that hasn;t yielded or moved over

Oh Yes!!! Only damage was couple of wheel nut covers were bent,i have a hire tank with them on so nicked sum off that anyway, lol made rite mess of his car tho.No Sympathy! thing is im a courtious driver and try give way to whatever i can but sometimes its not possible and i did expect him to back it off a bit but no not this one,bit of an attitude problem he had ,i had to walk away cos he still reckoned i was in the wrong, cos he was indicating.
Dont. My GF is one of these people. She moaned to me because she was joining the motorway, the lorry didnt move over so she had to stop.
Its no good me telling her that she should have adjusted her speed(by how it sounded she ran along side the lorry wanting it to pull out, before she had to slow right down/stop before she could join the motor way) because you cant tell her anything about her driving
This is the person that passed her test, could reverse into a space if it was an easy one of just turning the wheel. But she didnt have a clue which way to turn the wheel if she needed to adjust. We went to Matlock, easy space to go into. Needed to reverse back and just slide the car over to the left abit. She didnt have a clue which way to turn the wheel, had to start turning it for her after i had tried explaining, then telling for her to still not get it right.
But, cant tell her anything about her driving or i get accused of not trusting her driving
Bloody woman.

At which time she would, no doubt accelerate up his inside, leaving him stuck in the 2nd lane like a twot.
whats this moving over into lane 2 malarky to let cars join?
I find a quick toot on the horn to makes Mr/Mrs magoo aware your in their <--------HUGE--------> blind spot.
This leaves them a few seconds to choose, either make it go faster, or make it slow down before they reach the bottom of the slip road so they can squeeze it either in front or behind me.
too many times in the past Ive moved over only to be left stranded by the morons in lane 2/3, only to end up as the target for abuse by other drivers I
m holding up because I can`t move back over and resume my original position & let them past.
Remember those ickle dotted white lines painted at the bottom of the slip road are official give way markers the same as at any other road junction
My solution, though not PC would I think be effective,
simply relax the firearms laws for “Truckers” and allow them to carry sidearms !
Publicise the fact and if this isn’t deterrent enough then the ■■■■■■■■ car driver population would soon encounter natural selection !

No, ive not seen her do that.
Personally i thought she should have been checking before and changed her speed so she didnt need to stop.
It did sound quite like she ran along side it on the slip road, it didnt move out so she had to brake and stop before going onto the hard shoulder. But it was the lorry drivers fault, he should have moved over she said
She hasnt got the best view of lorry drivers. Not bad to say its the job i want to do when i can
peirre:
squeeze it either in front or behind
That’s the bit I will not do - it’s either a minimum safety gap or I do not go in
If no gap being left by driver behind letting me in then I will increase the forward gap by double the distance before committing over the give way line - even if it means easing off to the annoyance of the driver letting me in.
The last thing I want is for me to squeeze in and just as I do it, the traffic suddenly anchors on for whatever, leaving me squished back and front !!!
