Yes you are correct around the 300 mark you normally spend 4 hours or so in a class room then go to test centre with a vehicle, most companies do it in a van because you still get your cpc that way and its easierthanks Ash thats great, just got my digi card and licence back today so will be booking in for the mod 4 today and considering tacho training if its worth itâ â ?
Thinking bout the tacho training myself, did you do it ash ?

Cool cheers matey,
How you getting on btw ?
I got my assessment and theory day soon then week after all 3 tests aaarrhhhhhhh lol,
im ok mate good luck in your tests. Ive been reading up on WTD driving time and learning tachos. Having done only a day so far I feel a bit more confident but theres a lot to learn to make sure you dont drop yourself in the brown stuff. I have a interview type thing for agency work next Wednesday. All I can do is 15 hours max I think a fortnight but I need to be sure and im getting fed up of google now so i called a training company i passed my mod 4 with. For ÂŁ65 I can do half a day on WTD and half a day on tacho training. This also will go towards the 35 hours every 5 years we have to do so sod it i
ll do that week on Monday. Apparently agencies may give you a questionnaire sheet to answer on WTD ect so im just going to learn as much as I can till next week and go for it still. Following Monday I should know it all with a bit of luck. I dont think its essential to do a day course but might as well since I will have to at some point.

Hi all
I have been following this thread with interest as I am in the same position as some of the other guys who have been contributing. I am 33 and have recently decided that for the sake of my health and my home life, it is time for a change in career. I previously worked in Project Management in the healthcare industry and I was fed up being stressed, worried about work and it was also clearly affecting things at home. I am married with a young daughter and the final straw came when my wife sat me down and said she had noticed a change (for the worse) in me over the last few months so enough was enough. I also couldnât handle being stuck in front of a computer monitor for 9 hours every day anymore!
So I have my theory (all 3 parts) next week and then I am hoping to get a place with a local training company the following week to start my class 2 before doing my class 1 soon after. My bro in law is a driver so he has been an immense help to me and he has also been honest with all the pitfalls of the job so I am going into this with my eyes open! However he has also explained the good parts of the job so I am looking forward to getting started.
It has been very encouraging for me to read there are others in the same position as me and I wish everyone all the best. I am based in Central Scotland so I am hopeful a few local companies will take on a newbie but if anyone is aware of any opportunities for new drivers it would be really appreciated if you could give me the heads up.
Thanks a lot for reading.
Cheers

From what I have read here there is no national shortage so is there work out there for newly qualified drivers?
What sort of starting pay can I expect? I have heard many say minimum wage/only part time hours ect.I must say I am a bit downhearted with some posts I have seen as they are a bit of doom and gloom
You should take notice of the negativity, which has been presented to you. I would not recommend this industry to anyone. Especially, someone who is having to fund the training themselves.
If you have the time and money to waste, in order to find out the hard way, then go right aheadâŚ
If my son was to tell me that he wanted to become an HGV driver, it would break my heart. [emoji27]
Oh look we have found another negative person on here that hates the industry, why bother being on these forums if you hate the transport industry so much?! For those that say you cant make a living or enjoy the job are totally wrong, yes there is long hours involved but good money comes with that. If you love driving you will not have a problem, I am 21 I have funded both my class 2 and class 1 off my own back and wouldnât change a thing! I have got in to this industry at a young age and will probably retire driving, yes there is â â â â jobs but there is also good jobs out there. It just takes time to find these jobs, if you have the right attitude and put yourself out there you will get the job you have always wanted! So donât put a downer on people that have ambition to come in to the industry and drive for a living because its there choice, its like every job it has good days and bad days!
Iâm guessing this is one of V40LLYâs many profilesâŚ
He only come on here during half term when him mum has taken his crayons away as he keeps eating them!
So you wouldnât change a thing eh Ash?
How about stop driving VANS and use that Class 1 of yours?
