This is the same as the trailer I used when I didn’t have the 4 car on. Made totally out of angle iron, supposed to weigh under a ton, always had my doubts about this. Because they were under a ton you didn’t need a mate but still limited to 30 mph though. The later pups by Carrimore had a low mounted coupling which allowed the 1st car to dive down under the one on the unit. I always laugh at the lack of handrails & catwalks on these old transporters, but the cars in them days generally had upturned edges on the roof to hang onto.

Brilliant Progressive pics Dieseldog66, bringing great memories, thanks for that. I first clapped eyes on the Commer Maxiload Trideck at Earls Court Commercial Motor Show, it ran Coventry/ Scotland, the driver was a jock, Johnnie ?, when the AEC ergos came out the Commer was replaced by a Mandator and the Commer came to Oxford with a Carrimore 6 car (Prog adapted from 5car), I was on nights with a Mercury ergo 7car Carrimore and arriving to start a shift, the Mercury had gone and hey my new motor was the Commer    We used to do some miles at night and the low diff Maxiload(38mph) compared to the 58mph Mercury was an insult, for instance Cowley to Bridgewater, return via Church Lawford (what a dump that was, the watchman’s hut had the only light), another could be Cowley to Beckton Marshes(Rootes Compound), Dartford Tunnel to Ramsgate and Vdubs back to Cowley… 38mph made it a long night. I ramble… so here’s another look at a couple of the wagons I had which I have posted before.

The stobart TE trailer is electric,I don’t know who started the rumor about the donkey engine, the Nissan Washington ferry are getting Rolfos which are both pto and electrically operated, they carry nine but as yet haven’t seen one.
Stobart is also renaming the Walon bnl fleet,to stobart automotive,as picture shows.
The bottom photo is of one of the EHR refurbs, apparently these are shot blasted and painted, not wrapped,30 of these have been at Widnes since Nov/Dec waiting for new scanias( the first scanias were too long??).£10,000 a trailer has been spent on each body,I hope they’ve changed the rubber hydraulic hoses I can see quite a few going bang with standing for so long.
The last photo is of the rolfo semi which was on trial, this is also electric.

Daveymk That is the problem with donkey engines at least now you push a button to start, gone are the days when the engine was started with a handle, we had twin cylinder Listers on the tipping trailers. It was a bugger when the engine started and the driver let go of the handle leaving it on the end of the crankshaft!

Stobart now starting to tidy up scandals on autologic fleet

I cannot remember this particular model but its a Carter trailer with the electric tail lift.

Not sure about the Commer but the BMC’s of the same era were 17 & 18 tons GVW. With a BMC on the front of a Carrimore the ULW worked out at about 7t 15c, & in those days the cars were light so they were working well within the limits. It was rare to be pulled over a bridge loaded but it was more likely to be pulled empty to check the ULW against the taxation weight.

Interesting picture foden 01, not seen one of those before, just going to do some checking in my book, fleet no S164, so it was after they went in with BRS. opps i can see British Road Services on the front now i’ve enlarged it. watch this space.

Well it was based in Coventry, for a while, CKV 481D was the reg, while I don’t think I ever went in that particular lorry, I certainly did go in CKV 484D & CKV 493D, and can tell you they were all flyers 75 plus. Intresting to note the fleet No on the minibus on the back was S165,
