Someone posted the details of a company that gives good car insurance rates for lorry drivers a while back. But I can’t find it. Doh!
Can anyone remember?

dagnabbit beaten lol
Sadly they couldn’t help me as the cheapest they would quote me was £775. Found someone else for £475.
Thanks you two.
I’ll check 'em out.
Got to be better than the company that wanted to increase the premium. In case I was tired after a long shift, apparently.
A dicky bird told me to put “haulier” in the employment box.
If you get a renewal quote from a co. you’re already with, go to one of the comparison web sites and fill in your details. Very often you’ll get a much better price from the same co!

Same dicky bird told me that, my insurance went down an extra £40…
Adelaide said to me they’d beat any quote I got.
Shopped around, A LOT, and got price down to 730ish, so Adelaide offered 700. I asked if they could do better, next day, 660.
Paying monthly only cost an extra 60 quid too, so 720 to pay monthly. This included protected no claims, european breakdown, green card etc… Unlimited mileage on a BMW 530d Touring, 6yrs no claims, 35yrs old, male.
I posted some of this on another thread…
Adelaide on our new car beat everyone hands down on the first quote- no-one else even tried to compete
On our other car ( slightly modified Land Rover- with business use, with no “no claims”, - all on our main motor) I played a few insurers off against each other telling each one the previous lowest quote and Adelaide were in the running for quite a while, until Adrian Flux found a insurer who would mirror our existing no claims - and Adelaide couldnt match it. - but to get that we have had to go to an insurer who only covers modified vehicles over a certain age. I guess a specialist insurer in an area that adelaide dont normally deal in, where as Adrain Flux specialises in insuring vehicles out of the norm. (actualy worked out £300 cheaper than last year)
I would reccomend at least talking to Adelaide - and if you get a better quote then going back to them as they do seem to work hard to get your business and will genuinely try to beat any quote, but are honest enough to say " If you can get it at that price go with them becasue we cant match it".
I also got no hard sell for “Extras” (breakdown, Home start. Like for like courtesy car etc… unlike some of the big companies)

you must live in a dodgy area or have a fist full of points my 530i touring (E60) was £250 with them only dif i only do about 10,000 miles pa
I’ve never had a significantly cheaper offer as a result of holding a clean licence with max no claims for 20 years, so I don’t bother looking for one nowdays.
I usually pay around £300-£400, for group 14, and move on when the firm starts to take the ■■■■.
Usually, their argument for increasing is “Had a lot of claims in your area” and “if you work nights, you’re leaving your house alone at night!” - I’m married FFS!
So I don’t mention I work nights, or work in the haulage industry.
I do mention that my wife is at home when I’m not, and I don’t park on-road outside my house at night more often than not.
Seems to bring the cheaper premiums that holding a clean C+E does not!

The d is dearer to insure than the i, don’t ask me why, and also, mine’s an E39 which is dearer to insure than the E60, but yeah, dodgy area, no points.
I agree with Rikki about Adrian Flux, they can find some good deals (although still a rip off). The downside with them is if you pay monthly, I had a modified BMW 325 tds compact insured by them on a pay monthly agreement and asked for the cover to be suspended while the vehicle was off the road for a couple of months or so. No real problem with them but the company that provides the credit came across very strong demanding their money, numerous phone calls, texts and actually saying ‘we will send someone around to your property’. Bullying tactics don’t work with me and have ignored them since. I appreciate I entered into a credit agreement and have no intention of not paying but their methods leave a lot to be desired so will make them wait!
Another thing that annoys me is when they phone and ask numerous security questions because of the data protection act and if you don’t feel inclined to give that info to an 'unknown entity on the other end ’ you are being unco-operative.
Raymundo, if you have concerns that they might not be who they say they are when they call you, you can always call them back on the correct contact number for the company.
If they are properly organised, the operative should not be able to see your password on screen. They are prompted to ask for, say, character 3, when you tell them and they enter it, the computer will tell them if it is correct.
Regarding refusing to pay the credit co. If I lent you the money to pay your car insurance and you agreed to pay it back month by month + interest, then it matters not whether you keep that insurance, suspend it, end it or even write the car off, you still agreed to pay me month by month and I would expect it.
They will almost certainly add a negative report to your credit score and quite possibly apply for a CCJ.
As for those stating “haulier” in preference to HGV/LGV driver. If you are unlucky enough to have a serious claim (say you are hospitalised) and it comes out that you are infact an employed driver and not self employed in the business of road haulage, it could very well be just the excuse the insurer needs not to pay out.

I filled the forms few days ago and I never heard anything from them…
Do you know any phone number to them?
Like I said I have no intention of withholding payment permanently but at the time was working offshore and there’s no means of telecoms out there and my trained carrier seagull was a failure. It was their attitude that narked me, when back in phone range, nowt else. One phone call without the bully boy tactics and I would pay instantly, no probs, maybe next call?

Ah, thanks! Somehow when I went to Contact Us i clicked links and I was surprised I can’t find the phone
I was told that as long as you had the license, they’d cover you, however you have to be a full time driver to be able to use them on the HGV scheme, which means it’s no use to me
Just this minute came of the phone from Adeleide, but they said I could not be covered under their scheme as I have eight points and their’s only cover six or less. However they could give me an ordinary quote for just over £700 for a V reg 318ci BMW that we keep just for emergency use. Thanks but no thanks.
Also they stated you don’t have to a full time driver, part time is OK.
