Car Insurance for HGV Drivers

I know this has been discussed before but there is a company called Adelaide who specialise in car insurance for HGV drivers.

Adelaide Insurance Services in partnership with the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists), the UK’s leading road safety charity have put together an outstanding package that recognises the high standard of driving skills that UK LGV/HGV/PCV drivers have acquired in passing rigorous driving tests therefore making them better CAR drivers. With these enhanced driving skills we see these drivers as less of an insurance risk on the road than your average car driver and as a result could save them some money on their personal car insurance!

I just got a quote from them. Compared to my previous insurer, the excess is less (£150 compared to £600), windscreen excess is less (£60 compared to £75). I have protected no claims bonus, 180 days European cover, courtesy car etc.

Admiral’s renewal quite was £522.58, Adelaide have quoted me £246.48.

Did mine with them last month, my renewal was £527, Adelaide did it for £240 so well worth giving them a try

Yep highly recommend Adelaide, just renewed my car insurance and they saved me roughly 35 - 40% so I’m well chuffed.

got to be worth a call, thanks harry.

I am with Adelaide as well, saved me £270 last renewal, no complaints about them so far.

After reading the old thread on people raving about Adelaide, back in February I registered with them thinking my car insurance was due now (March), but it’s not due until June  .

Anyway, the day after registering I got a call from them, but had to tell them my renewal is not due until June, no probs they said, they’ll ring back again nearer the time.

Now, after reading people’s renewal quotes so far, I feel as if I want to look forward to my renewal quote from them. :open_mouth:

ffffffffffffffffffffs! Just renewed mine for £510 but that includes a years breakdown wish i had known about this.sod compare the market next time!!

Yeah, i went with them saved me about £130 on my renewal. You have to leave your contact details on their website and they phone you. Well worth doing.

Added to favourites, car insurance due end of May so will deffo give them a call.
Thanks for sharing

I’ve got no connection with Adelaide, but anyone who does a good deal for truck drivers deserves a mention.

Just a couple of other points.

Adelaide is a broker, they aren’t insuring me. The insurance is with Royal Sun & Alliance, so I would consider it safe.

I asked the ■■■■■■■ the phone today why they did a special deal for truckers and she said “We have a very low claims experience because they are more highly qualified drivers, but also they tend not to use their cars a lot because many of them are parked in a secure yard all week while the driver is away in the truck” so it seems as though they do understand the market they are targeting.

I wonder if they will insure ex drivers who still hold an HGV licence or do you have to name a company employing you?

Pete.

Bar Steward. Just renewed mine at £304, wonder what it would have been with them?

They never asked me anything about who I worked for, they did take my licence number, presumably to check entitlements

Someone explain in leymans(sp) terms please

You fill the form in that means you join the IAM whatever the ■■■■ that is, how do you get a quote do they phone you??

Institute of Advanced Moterists, just an extended test to prove you are that bit better than average. Not that I’m one  .

Yes, they phone you. You fill in the basic online form, it asks you when the best time is to phone. I said “Between 6 and 7 pm” which is normally when I have just parked up, and they phoned at 1850.

They matched any quote my current insurers could do as long as I got it in writing , fair play they always came out on top , now pay £296 fully comp with all the trimmings , but Hastings were good too , they came down to £303 from a renewal quote of £612 , just goes to show they can do it for less and are clearly ripping us off because they can …

Do you have to pay a deposit with these? My insurance isn’t due until dec , mine is £1090 :frowning: young drivers get raped ffs!!!

Some of them deserve it to be fair the way they drive!

Yeah I second that they wanted licence number but didn’t ask who I worked for.
