Car Insurance for HGV Drivers

It does say in the advert in T & D that you just have to have the Entitlement not actually working as a lgv driver because the regard an lgv test as a higher qualification than a IAM test.
Or was it on the web site i cant remember.

It’s fair enough if you think about it, if you’re a tramper, away all week, you probably only drive your car for a couple of hours per week.

Do you have to pay a deposit with these? My insurance isn’t due until dec , mine is £1090 :frowning: young drivers get raped ffs!!!

Yeah you can pay a deposit and the rest in monthly payments.

Will definitely give these guys ago when my insurance is up.

He doesnt choose to buy it he has to have it by law, why should he ■■■■ it up I used to live in London my premium went up from £396 to £1100 … I [zb] them off they claimed it was because of accidents, i said I have full no claims and never had a car accident in 18 years of driving a car they said its the area you live in you are paying for others.

do what I did say you live at your sisters out of London or where ever you are from and go home 3/4 days a week, amazingly i paid £248 when I did that!!

Just realised that my insurance was renewed this month so will bear it in mind for next year. Having said that, I ‘only’ pay £280 fully comp so it may not save me anything substantial anyway.

Pete.

Think my insurance is june so i’ll give them a bell, ive been jumping ship the last few years because my renewals quotes are a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■■■ ie no change of address no accidents and they stick it up a 100quid. On yer bike!

One thing that makes me laugh.

I had a Renault Scenic Diseasal with ABS etc, insurance was over £600, at same time I owned a Landrover Series 3, with drum brakes, big sticky out metal bumpers etc, insurance £88, and a Sierra XR4x4 2.9i with ABS but the brakes were typical 80’s, ABS was on / off not electronic like the new ones, ■■■■ suspension etc, insurance £120 ish…

Explain that.

‘Classic cars’ …

Renewed mine with Adelaide and saved £80. About time an insurance company realised that hgv drivers are highly unlikely to have a smash.

Its not higher or lower

Adelaide have a few departments and one is strictly for IAM members so they can get favourable insurance rates

If both LGV and current IAM member (IAM membership number req) then mention you have both because it may be a double saving

windrush:
I wonder if they will insure ex drivers who still hold an HGV licence or do you have to name a company employing you?

Pete.

+1 for a mate.

He used to be a PSV driver though and has had to surrender his PSV part of his licence on medical grounds.

I’ve told him about Adelaide and he wants to know if they insure motorbikes too??

They don’t cover imports. I’ll stick with my specialist insurer who knows what a DC5 is.

I’m out.

Wow,only just joined the site and this info has took my insurance down from £500 TO £350

I took the breakdown cover as well at £25 half price,my previous wanted £79 for the same cover.

Thanks again

They do require that you are driving for a living … :smiling_imp:

Got my renewal through yesterday from Tosco, £1250 up from £890 :open_mouth: :open_mouth: (they must’ve seen my cone  ) , including all the add ons. Rang Adelaide and they’ll beat any quote by 10%, atm I’ve got Tosco down to £990 with Adelaide guaranteeing to beat it and with slightly better terms (no excess for windscreen repair, european b/d cover)

What the ■■■■ are you insuring a Ferrari?

A 10 yr old Galaxy :open_mouth: :open_mouth: , with 5 yr NCD. It must be the postcode as Galaxy owners on another forum have quotes for less than £300.
