Car drivers respecting lorry drivers

Is it just me , but i have noticed how respectful they are ,i see a lot of aggression between one car driver to the other, but as of late, i do not get much bother from them, they flash me out, and seem more patient and aware of the lorry size when pulling out of junctions .

I have to agree mate, I’ve noticed a lot of car drivers being courteous towards me as of late. Even being patient when I gaff up a difficult reverse. I guess it could be good karma for being courteous drivers ourselves?

Ive noticed the same. Plenty if space to manoeuvre in. Unless theyre frightened by my staring red rimmed eyes and are trying to keep outta the way…

Maybe it’s people that drive lorries?
I always give time to lorries and let them out if able to

Had one going ballistic at me on Friday. It was a fat côont in a white Range Rover - probably the boss of a little industrial unit. Anyway I indicated to overtake another truck and he was well back. So I then carried out the manoeuvre into Lane 2 and he was flashing his lights like a mad man. He must’ve been getting more and more enraged as when he did eventually get by me after exiting at he next roundabout he let rip on his horn.

I gave him a little wave and carried on with a smile on my face.

Instead of forcing truck drivers to do cycling courses, maybe all car drivers should have to sit in a lorry for 20 minutes and see just how much or little we can see up there. I think it would give the more genuine drivers out there a greater appreciation and maybe help them work out how to assist trucks.

As for the white range rover - personally I think anyone who buys a white one should immediately have their driving licence removed as there’s a very high chance they’re either a drug dealer, pimp or just general [fb] (insert own word of choice).

Not worried about range rovers in any colour other than white as those seem to be the status symbol ones for some very odd reason. All the hassle I’ve had from range rover drivers so far seems to have been white ones too.

especially the ones with badges, blue lights and writing all over them…definitely the worst of the worst in my book.

Its probably self preservation.

Probably to do with the increase of dash cam footage in the news, mostly footage from a lorry.

That sort of behaviour encourages my truck to make the overtake last longer.

It was mostly like that once over, but due to an increase in agressive truck driving by many pricks, and using truck size to intimidate over the years it has decreased a lot.

Who knows, maybe my one man ‘trucker to car driver’ charm offensive I have been conciously practicing for last couple of years, to redress the balance, crusade is working  , and being reciprocated towards everybody else, …so no need to thank me Tobes.:unamused:

If we can try and educate, more lorry drivers to stop tailgating, then that might help, raise a little more respect, because that’s what most people I talk to now comment on. It frightens me, seeing how close, some drivers are to back of cars, on crowded roads, especially in 50mph roadworks… :imp:

I agree, but also car drivers need educating on lane discipline, the ones that hog the middle lane at 40 to 45 in a 50 in roadworks.
I understand the limit not target thing, and I am NOT justifying tailgating, but it is bloody frustrating when lanes 2 and 3 are nothing more thsn a procession of slow moving cars, rather than them using the lanes correctly.

The other alternative is undertaking in that scenario, which is yet another subject for argument and justification.

I see lorries tailgating cars all the time in the 50 mph average speed road works on the motorway, I cant understand why they sit a few feet behind a car, there is no.time to react if the car had a mechanical failure or the driver becomes ill at the wheel with a 44 tonner with a moron at the wheel .
The time it takes for the eyes to send the urgent message to the brain that you need to hit the brakes, you have travelled some distance .
The time it takes for the brain to instruct the muscles in the body to use the legs and feet to press the brakes, again distance is covered.
Now equate the stopping distance of the lorry plus the two above inputs, by this time the family in the car is wiped out .
If you see a lorry tailgating, ring the firm they work for and tell their manager .

I must say that as I’ve got older and my driving style has calmed down a lot and instead of worrying about what time I get from A to B I enjoy the drive other road users driving has also improved.

Things like not using the size of my vehicle to intimidate, quite the opposite in fact and leaving plenty of space, creating it where possible, better forward planning, indicating earlier rather than during the monouvre or just after it has lead to much better driving standards from everybody else.

So all along the problem was me. Course there’s still the odd nutter who drives no worse than I used to.

No iv not noticed.
