Car drivers on the A41

Just wana say thanks for sounding your horns/giving me the coffee beans hand signal today.
The reason I was doing 40 mph on an A road is quiet simple
1-it’s the law!
2-I’ve got six points for speeding!

And whilst I know my vehicle is more that capable of traveling at a higher speed(in a safe manor), I know the minute I put my foot down, a lovely man from the local plod will be sat behind a bush with a speed gun, and kindly give me 3points and a nice little fine too!

So dear car driver next time you think the artic in front is being a complete nob for doing 40, think on!

And if it really gets to you… Start a campaign to raise the speed limits for hgvs.

Thanks
John ■■■

So I assume you stay to 50 on the duals?

My motor is restricted to 52 mph anyway, so I just about get away with that one

Maybe you should post this on a car drivers forum? If you haven’t already done so.

So why didn’t you pull over and let the faster queues pass as your supposed to do?

Why should he though? 40 is the law & it’s a reasonable speed to do. The pull over rule is for tractors doing like 14 mph. If he wants to pull over while doing 40 then fair play but I wouldn’t demand that if I was following him.

Signed,

Cane it everywhere. (In a courteous manner of course).

I’m not arsed if they overtake me, good luck to them, it’s the attitude you get off them.
Why call someone a w@&ker cos they are trying to do their job?

Did you keep that frame of mind as you were given the 6 points? :smiling_imp:

I see speeding points as an occupational hazard, I’m not proud of them and I’ll be glad to get a clean license back, but that wasn’t the point of the original post, if you fail to understand my point ask a grown up

Some people are so self righteous on here the original thread had nothing to do with speeding but car drivers attitudes towards us, next time you’re in a shop call person the on the till a w@@ker when he makes a mistake and see how far it gets you. I reported a car driver to the police in Holyhead for calling me a w@@ker police just laughed yet they take the word of every motorist who rings up to report a driver and my crime for being called a w@@ker covering two lanes on a roundabout so i could get round and holding up an audi for at least 2 seconds

I did my weekly run from Hull to Dundee via Jedburgh this weekend. Lovely drive but boy did the cars build up behind me.
I was doing 40 max and, bearing in mind the frustrations behind, pulled in to a lay by every now and again just to let the queue past. Cost me 5 seconds max each time and I felt it was more responsible given that a crap overtake attempt could have killed someone.

On clear stretches I just indicated down for a few seconds to signal a safe overtake was possible.

Hope this helps you in future.

When i’ve done 40 on singles cant say ive ever really had a problem with other people giving abuse, but like someone else said probably best to pull in from time to time if your gonna do 40. If you were were following a lorry for miles on end in your car you’d get pretty ■■■■■■ off, even 50 is slow in a car.

What part of the A41 are we talking about? Reason I ask is I find this road between Bicester and Aylesbury quite bad for abuse off other drivers. The A420 Oxford-Swindon was another regular one for me to experience grief.

Funny that Mazzer, on my way home from work in my dear little Peugeot I dared to"close the door" on a roundabout to stop a silver Audi ending up under the rear wheels of an artic, my thanks from Mr Audi, headlights, horn&coffee beans!is it me or have the drivers of German cars got unresolved personal issues?

last time i did 40 on a S/C … i nearly fell asleep through boredom, i dont know how some of you lot do it day in day out

Yes i know its the law before the smart arses pipe up

When I first started doing it I felt the same, you get used to it. I normally don’t use CC or at least keep varying the speed from 40-45mph.

I try to stick to 40 and rarely pull in, because I have always reckoned that the driver(s) of the car(s) in the distance that you have ended up pulling out in front of, are far more annoyed than the ones who were simply stuck behind you. On runs like up the A16, I will do a lap or maybe two of the roundabouts to let several cars past.

The answer for all those car drivers who are ‘held up and late for their meeting’ is to leave earlier.

I have come to the conclusion that a number of drivers on here are as thick as two short planks!
If you can be arsed, look at the original post and try and see the general point I was making. It was more about the attitude and poor driving standard etc of some but not all, drivers on the road today.
But instead of adding to the debate with some valid points some of seem incapable of doing this, and just start a slanging match.

Someone put a post on here the other day about the forum being doomed, whilst I don’t fully agree with him what I do believe is that a thick minority of negative sad arsed drivers are spoiling it for the majority of us.

Rant over!

We are based at Market Drayton on the A41. VOSA are ■■■■ hot with this around here. We are told by our firm to stick to the 40mph limit and have plates on the back of the trailers stating that 40 is the limit on SC. I think the most I’ve had is the odd blowing of horns when passing but thats about it.
