Car drivers on the A41

i used to travel across the A685 on a regular basis. my average speed was a staggering 15mph.
not out of choice, the lorry was crap and it’s a nasty road, and two 12 to 14 ton sandstone rocks are not the nicest of things to carry.
i used to get a que of cars behind me, and whenever i had chance i’d pull over and let them past.
i would get a pip on the horn, and a wave of thanks. there may have been the odd one that would give the coffee bean shake, but it was very rare, and he would have probably done the same whatever speed i was doing.
i try to think of others before myself.

A684

I have come to the conclusion that a number of drivers on here are as thick as two short planks!
If you can be arsed, look at the original post and try and see the general point I was making. It was more about the attitude and poor driving standard etc of some but not all, drivers on the road today.
But instead of adding to the debate with some valid points some of seem incapable of doing this, and just start a slanging match.

Someone put a post on here the other day about the forum being doomed, whilst I don’t fully agree with him what I do believe is that a thick minority of negative sad arsed drivers are spoiling it for the majority of us.

Rant over!

And this forum never used to be full of whingers who have nothing better to do than come on here and moan about things that most of us take in our stride :unamused:

Funny that Mazzer, on my way home from work in my dear little Peugeot I dared to"close the door" on a roundabout to stop a silver Audi ending up under the rear wheels of an artic, my thanks from Mr Audi, headlights, horn&coffee beans!is it me or have the drivers of German cars got unresolved personal issues?

Hitlers cousins, or sons and daughters! :sunglasses: :grimacing:

So why didn’t you pull over and let the faster queues pass as your supposed to do?

40s the limit :open_mouth: faster queues■■? WTF■■? if car drivers can’t overtake a wagon, which is sticking to his speed limit by LAW no less, then they should hand back their licence! Who says your SUPPOSED to let faster queues pass! We all pay road tax, we all share and tolerate each other! It’s not hard! :unamused:  :sunglasses: :grimacing:

Drive a low loader fof a living even with escorts ect the bean signal is the least of your worries ive had cans tomatoes eggs thrown at the moter however it all comes to those who wait as the gent who shouted kind words at me on the North circ when i stopped at a set of lights a can of cola dropped through his sun roof seemed to answer his enquiry about my parents status. Youve just got to get on with it.

At last, someone speaking some sense

I would only pull over for emergency vehicles.

Travelling at 40 on a single carriageway is not my choice, it’s the law! My vehicle is not ‘slow’ - it is capable of going faster if the law allowed.

If we start pulling over to let ‘more important’ car drivers past - it will set a precedence and will start to be expected. I am watched, monitored, limited and restricted quite enough without being held up even more by being expected to pull over!

Is my journey less important than anyone elses? We HAVE to stop when we need a break - pulling over is not going to get the most out of my driving time/working time allowances.

If people get annoyed following us - let them lobby the powers that be - pulling over will not help us, and we need all the help we can get!

NOT PULLING OVER - in case anyone wasn’t sure

Maybe you should post this on a car drivers forum? If you haven’t already done so.

Maybe I will!

So why didn’t you pull over and let the faster queues pass as your supposed to do?

And where does it state as hgv driver you are to pull over and let faster vehicles pass? :unamused:

Just seems on this particular road there are more impatient idiots that think they rule the road. Stuff em.

If they give you abuse just laugh at them they love it. Watching car drivers get more and more wound up is a perk of the job.

Hiya i did Chester to the M54 for 18 years. god do you get some crap on the part of the A41.
i got pulled for 60 mph by a copper, i said look 42(on the tacho) he said i had a bent needle■■?
they don’t beleve tacho’s(i was doing 42) i couldn’t be bother to fight the case. (i had no points).
for all you who don’t bother keeping to 40 mph, look out for the very tricky speed sencors
under the tarmac on that part of the A41 their’s 5 between the M54 and Market Drayton
and I’ll bet you can’t find them. you see nothing out of place until you get the ticket.
look out for the car with a chap reading a newspaper, he has a small camera fitted on the cars dash.
there’s a small wire plugged into a post by the sencor that runs to the car 20 yards away.
not alot to do with the question…just saying go steady

Sticking two fingers up back gets you reported (speaking from experience). I now wave and mouthe “good morning/afternoon” instead. You could always carry the highway code and hold it up as the honk and pass you.

I had one occasion when a car driver rung the number on my door to complain about something i,d done
his face was a picture when i answered the phone

Someone said earlier that they stick to speed limits because they’ve got 6 points etc…

I’ve got a clean licence right now…my first and only 3 points came off about 2 years ago…and I’m
trying to keep it that way, mostly because i’m paying £177 per annum for my group 16
car insurance.
3 points would take that up to £487 and 6 points would cost £895.

Good enough reasons for me to plod along nice and slow!

I totaly agree wid squiddy just wave or even blow a kiss it drives em mad and look on the bright side the next week you might be on the same stretch of road again and if they are commuters you can drive em mad again! Who knows the guy youve just held up could b the ahole who held you up at the rcd wot goes round comes round.
