Car broken into , sort off

Well it looked like I made to good of cleaning & polishing my girls car , she parked it outside of her house last night & forgot to lock it .

Today when she went to go out she found every thing from glove compartment on the floor & looks like they’ve rummaged through the rest of the stuff in the car .

All she / partner can see is missing is a couple pounds ( not bothered ) & the service book is gone , I for the life of me can’t think why they’d take the service book .

So has anyone any idea why they’d take the service book ? , what good would it be to them ? The car has always been serviced from new at the same Ford dealer so would they issue a new one , if not how will that effect value of car ? As we’ve no service book but obviously it would be recorded on dealers system

Thanks

Google say identity fraud , sell car

Not got a clue how you’d use a service book for identity fraud or how you’d sell a car with just the service book .

Told her to pop to cop station & ask there advice

Service book will have all the vehicle details in-reg. no, chassis no, vin no, recorded mileage at last service etc-everything the toerags need to clone the car. Tell her to be prepared for speeding, parking, toll tickets to be heading her way. She needs to report it to the police asap and try to record her movements so she can prove she wasn’t where the offences took place. An idea is to put a sticker or stuffed toy or similar in her front and back window so the recorded photos don’t match her car. Good luck!

Thankyou , I’m just reading up & it looks like it’s going to turn into a nightmare , it looks like they knew what they were doing taking the service book

She’s ringing coppers now .

either that or a little bit of watching to see who comes out to the car from what house then you have current address right to dvla and put in a change pf address then once new v5 arrives at new address sell dodgy stolen car with new v5 and log book if the new owner gets stopped it all comes back on your daughter

Must admit my service book / mrs are in glove compartments of our cars

Im thinking get rid of car , to just take service book seems they knew what they were doing , taking it for

Thanks cooper

see what the boys in blue say… however i suspect it wont be alot other than a crime number. thing is if you flog the car it doesnt really solve the issue as any hassle will still come back to your daughter potentially and all the money spent getting it serviced and stamped to keep its value will be wasted with out the service book

i once tried to sell a car through gumtree and with in 20 minuets the ad had morphed into one for an audi. (i was selling a ford) i called the police and had to pester them for even a crime number they wernt interested at all.

as a thought you might wish to call the insurance company not to put a claim in but just make them aware

Thanks cooper , she’s told the police who’ve recorded it all , I’m not sure on telling ins , it’s saying you only have to inform them if car is stolen , no need if service book lost / stolen

I’m not sure what there reaction would be if she told them she’d forgot to lock the car .

As I said earlier I’ve no doubt this is going to turn into a nightmare

I’d also look at getting a personal plate asap, they’re cheap enough and the toerag won’t know it’s changed meaning if they clone the plate, it will flag up immediately as being false. :+1:

Will look into that bosshog , thanks

This is mrs service book ( same as my girls was ) this is only info in it other than stamps for srvs

Reg / make / model you can get off any car in street , so only thing other than that is vechicle no , no personnel details in service book

She’s now saying all books are gone , there’s a black zipped case in these fiestas / fords with service book / manual etc in it so sounds like they’ve taken the case / contents , rather than specifically the service book

They tell you kids get easier when older , bloody 35 yr olds are as much trouble as teenagers , first port of call is dad ha ha .

Thanks all , will take advice

Those ford service and hand books are up any thing from£40 to £100 on ebay for 2018 on

I have a Spanish registered car and it is a legal requirement that all original documents pertaining to it are carried at all times.V5 (equivalent),insurance certificate,MoT equivalent. No photocopies although a certified copy will suffice with a 3 month life.If my car is stolen all the documents disappear with it.

upto you all im thinking is if te car is cloned and involved in an accident it will be your insurance premiums that will take a hit… or if its involved in a crime… its no good saying after the fact oh well my docs were stolen 6 months ago

When I was based in Germany, it was a legal requirement to carry all your docs too. I used to have a little A5 wallet that carried all my paperwork with a clear pocket on the front. When I went out in the car, I tucked my Military Police warrant card in the clear pocket and put it under the sun visor. If I ever got stopped, I handed my docs over, I was usually thanked, brisk handshake and bid good day.

All the hallmarks of drug users, they steal anything within a car they think is of value. Blue badges is a big thing, they get £20-30 quid for each one they sell on. I know of a car broken into and they stole a 6 pack of water…not even evian.

Also to probably copy for their own template on cars they are flogging with fake service history.
