Started new job on Monday, after a week I’ve had to endure an extra 12 hours at home in my own bed. During this week, I’ve not handballed anything off, and neither have I been given an unreasonable booking in time anywhere. Not one customer has spoken to me in a rude or ignorant manner, and I haven’t had a long wait to unload or load anywhere. People sign the paperwork without going over their delivery with a fine tooth comb, and they all thank me. My cab has no bunk and I’m expected to go home and rest after only 10 hours duty time. I have no work to carry out during my breaks, and when I am driving I’m expected to “take my time” and “don’t rush about.”
How am I ever going to “live the dream” in such working conditions?

Funnily enough we’ve got work in the book for January already. Keeping busy doing jobs the big firms can’t be bothered with or are too busy to do for several days. We sell our own material aswell, we don’t do haulage for the quarry firms as the rates are crap.

Even though you have a day cab you could still wear clogs ,have your wallet on a tow chain,cover the front in spot lamps and hide behind a curtain with the phone to your ear !
