hate to say it but if i was stuck in spain like that, and managed to get back my first port of call would be the axxxxxe who put me in that position and it would not be a pleasant visit,i am not normally a violent person but to put me in such a stressfull position would result in my ex boss getting a smack, good luck in getting back

But that’s the thing, in all honesty, how could you end up in that situation in the first place? It’s not 1972. Even if the truck was taken, which I don’t believe for a second, you’d be on home soil within 24 hours. Who can’t scrounge 100 pound for a flight? You don’t even need the cash now, someone at home book it on a credit card and away you go. If all you had was your phone and passport you could make it.

You’d look well getting a tug in Calais with this fella on board. I used to hate taking one of the other lads trucks for trips in case anything in the cab and I knew them. No way would I carry a stranger back

yeah you are quite right,i have 2 credit cards on me at all times as do a lot of people,i would be reluctant to put myself in more debt but in that situation would not hesitate,or failing that you would go to the british consulate if it was genuine

How times have changed. Guess most of you would drive on past a fellow Brit broken down at the side of the road abroad.

Its not even if he was a user before this alleged situation occured.

Sorry, should have made it clearer, I was referring more to Lusk’s final sentence in his post 6 posts up rather than specifically to the OP.

Guess not many of you hitched around Europe when you were young then?

I would imagine that things have changed a hell of a lot mate since most of us were young. And yes, it is a sad state of affairs not being able to trust people but some of the scams which are around these days are so very sophisticated I dont believe you can be too careful. Being generally ignorant around such matters, assuming this is not a genuine post, this is why I am curious to find out possible motives.

I hitched a bit in North Wales once in 1981 …I was a tad drunk and realised I had to get out the car that gave me a lift after 200 yards as I was at the bottom of the lane I needed to be at

I wouldmt hitch after that, took the train around Europe

Thanks to kind spanish truckers and there french mates i am on way bavk to uk organised by them right to london.
Thanks for the wise words of engouragement from forum memberd and therest thsnks for the laughi got ie washing powder.

Glad your on your way back home.
Sure theres some nice truckers on here who will to give you and your washing powder a lift back to Scotland.

Think your boss is going to be fuming when he finds out you’ve let someone repo his motor based on some official looking internet cafe printouts (Pretending to be repo men is quite a common scam in Spain you know). Me thinks there might be some balls of poop flying in your direction.

Keep us posted and well done for getting at least back on the right Island, Scotlands a fair lick from London so not quite home and dry yet.

You sure you not been doing more than sharing a cab. You english has suddenly got very bad.one or two sherberts maybe. Or you been sniffing that washing powder.makes me wonder why you never answered the questions about you not being able to fly back or get a derry when you could afford hotels. My guess is you either never was in spain or have never left.

Do you have the registration number of your vehicle . We can then check to the various databases to see if you are genuine .

What gets me about your story is why you post first on a Wednesday, then say you will start looking to hitch a ride on Saturday. If you were sleeping rough you wouldn’t have been waiting that long, so you must have been in some accommodation at a cost so had access to money.

Please explain why all the sensible suggestions about budget flights etc. were out of the question? I am just curious, as I’m sure others are as it is what most of us would have done.

Perhaps just thanking the Spanish driver with French friends  for his generosity, bad manners to type with your mouthfull though…

All of this kind of reminds me of the “chocolate mushroom man” as he was called from years back, the older guys will remember him.

I am of the opinion that the OP could easily have got back home without the need to try on here, call me a sceptic but no one goes to Spain without a way back if the worst happens.

Glad you are managing to get back home my friend, if I was ever abroad, and a fellow countryman was in trouble, I would give him as much help as I could, sounds easy but one has to check out the story, and ask yourself if it is feasible. This Guy did get back to us, unfortunately, there is no way of telling where the person is sending his message from. Years ago, I worked for a company who contracted for the RAC, we did recovery in every country in Europe, some were breakdowns, some were stolen and recovered, and some were finance ■■■■■■ backs. The vehicles were not taken from the owners but by counterparts in that country, and impounded. All I had to do was show documents, and pay the storage fees.
