Can we go door knocking yet?

As per, is it legal to do so or is it a pants down an fine for the effort if I dare to go hunting? [emoji38]

Done weeks of cv apps online in a bid to be a good lad an follow the guidelines with absolutely sweet fa in return, so ima thinking KCUF this time to go back to me roots and smash doors down.

Cheers people’s [emoji16]

In answer to your main question I would say no it is not a good idea for fairly obvious reasons. In regard to following the guidelines I would say it’s in everyones best interest again for obvious reasons.
Why would you ever expect anything in return?

Are you just bored ?

Was a genuine query Mr snake.

As for boredom…

YES I am bored…
Bored of having to apply via ‘cv’ with fall ever coming back [emoji38]

Yes. Go for it. I’ve seen a couple of people dropping their CVs off at our place. Hardest part may be getting through the heightened security at sites and depots, and more reliance on speaking through intercoms, through perspex screens, etc. As opposed to face-to-face interaction. Probably more chance of being told to go away, but it’s worth a go.

From what I’ve seen, our place is using all this as an excuse to wean themseves off the more expensive agencies, and recruit employed drivers. Even the less desirable shifts seem to be getting filled.

Cheers for that chap [emoji6]

Genuinely though it was an honest question, I’m not glued to all the media an gov rhetoric on the daily so apart from adopting a no snogging strangers policy I’ve not really taken much notice of the what we can/can’t do as I’m antisocial with bad ocd at the best of times so covid is near business as usual for me with regards to human interaction [emoji16]

Just want a ■■■■ job an cba with all this send an application crap anymore [emoji849]

+1, nothing to lose, Benj, get on it.

Stop being a dam plobber, and get off ya Harris, and get in there first,…

The big blue pointy shoe logits you won’t get through the gate, and CV will go in the bin, courteous of chimp security,

Real Haulage companies you should get to the office, and might even talk to someone in the know.

Why not try Logistics people. Be honest with them they will find you a place to start. Have you tried Stobbies again.

Many thanks as always Gentlemen [emoji41][emoji41]

Fao Mr wheels off, I haven’t yet as I’m just awaiting news on a possible move into South Norfolk, which would be very helpful employment wise as there’s access to a broader market, plus I’ve been looking to do so for years so maybe it’ll come good, other party dependant [emoji849]

Nearest stobbys would be a fair fair trek unless I could tramp,
but on the hush hush I’ve insiders on my payroll who’ve been very kindly keeping an ear down for me so hey ‘IF’ things picked up they’ll be letting me know, but I’d have to tramp which could be tricky in the current climate I fear.

I’ve also offered yesterday to pay towards the cost of a hiab ticket with a firm locally if their willing based on the fact their happy to train someone, its just wether they’d entertain without the magic 2yrs bs, so we’ll see if the phone rings, cool job with good prospects/skilling up, so I’ll pray maybe the phone will ring.

So no fear gents I AM GRAFTING HARD as always to get going again, even if it means a touch more debt…

Had a knock back off Welchs today, not surprised sadly, and as usual have heard nowt from many others(despite their media profiles guaranteeing otherwise) but thanks to the advice received I’ll head back out for some face to face f-off roastings again [emoji16]

Look for yards that are clearly operating “business as usual” and knock on that door, I’d humbly suggest…

Picking what battles to fight is a big one. Firms with trucks still parked up are a waste of time. The owners will be too busy worrying about whether they can keep their current drivers employed, never mind taking on new ones. Some may even be questioning the survival of the entire company.

Like Winseer says, the only chances at the moment are the firms firing on all six cylinders.

Big corporate companies aren’t really worth it, they’ll just tell you to apply online. The smaller yards are the way to go.

Cheers again chaps, as always I HEAR the advice, and it’s much appreciated [emoji109][emoji41]

Trouble is the small firms won’t touch me Mr Rottweiler, trust me I’ve tried for MONTHS, maybe I just ain’t seeing the wood for ‘t’ trees eh?

I’m totally understandable to it all as it’d cost them alot more if something did go wrong, reputations count when your a lone warrior as we all know, now more than ever I’d say.

Plus Eddie’s are all lease and we know how insurance works when you’ve buying power… (sub note, I see ones just nailed the Blackwall tunnel, so I’m hoping Dagenham may be recruiting soon… [emoji38])…

So I do truly understand all the elements an independent haulier will be worrying about with regards to us pups(haulage is in me blood sadly) but I’m solid reliable(finally) will do whatever is asked(yep I’ll go there too [emoji38]) and LOVE to work, I’m cab happy from birth, well long as its spotless!! [emoji16]

All I ask is I’d like me own cab as I’m seriously ocd and I take HUGE PRIDE in my equipment, more than happy to share, long as they are like me alls good, and yes ideally I want artics as I’ve a thing about seeing a good length in my mirror, but I’d HAPPILY take a C2 if I could have the above.

Couldn’t care how much I earn either tbh, long as it don’t affect others I’m game till I can prove I’m worth the going rate, as before I’ve even offered to pay towards any skilling up to get a chance.

■■■■ me I sound a ■■■■■, but ■■■■ em, I fire from the cuff powered by my bollox, so if the world don’t like that, ■■■■ em,
I’ll just wait till stobbys fire up again an try my luck again, only this time it’s my own unit FULL TIME as I ain’t festering for £9ph, although for 9.75 I’d consider it [emoji38][emoji38]

You might find some competition from unemployed coach drivers (with LGV) as Shearings/National holidays have gone belly up.

Poor chaps [emoji17]

What with Rolls Royce as well, let alone all the unreported one’s…

I thinks for me at least it really is time to end the hunt for the driving dream and head for the slaughter house.

It’s just not worth the head/heart ache no more.

You’ll get in somewhere eventually Benjie as you seem well up for it. Just don’t give up, most people have a hard time getting their first nod. Just be honest about your experience and show that you are willing to learn and will go the extra mile for the firm. Thirst goes a long way.

And yes, get yourself round the front gate. You can stand outside waiving at them to show you know about social distancing. [emoji1787]

Jack Richards are taking on trampers our of Boston and have their base at Fakenham. I’d call in person at Fakenham as you’ll be at the bottom of the pile with your experience unless they’re up for newbies.

There’s a DHL frozen Bird’s eye depot round that way as well with the factory at Lowestoft. There’s a firm who subs for them pulling their trailers as well, might be a better punt, can’t think of the name of them at the moment but someone else on here might recall.

There’s a Culina depot at Haverhill, busy and may take on Newbs. They’re advertising on indeed for drivers at Muller, Market Drayton but you need to live local, there’s a relocation check box on the application form, dunno if you can or just tell um you’ve got a camper van / canal boat and will park it near.

Think Stobhies do Coleman’s mustard in Norwich unless they’ve lost it.

There’s loads of chicken/Turkey farms round there, MRCT refrigerated transport for 3 sisters food group, bet they’re busy at the mo.

Tradeteam depot in Ipswich if you don’t mind the hand ball graft, wait for the pubs to re open, obvs.

Aldi RDC, Chelmsford, Flat out.

I’m seeing Contractor tractors pulling Aldi trailers of late, so one wonders if Aldi are having a bit of bother motivating any stood-down workforce back to work?

There’s no queueing when shopping at Aldis and Lidls around my way, compared to the “Big Three” - that’s a lot of saved time NOT standing right around the car park to get the weekly big shop in…

Question for those in the know:

Where does the driver go whilst the vehicle is being unloaded by PPM? I would have thought they’d be staying in their cabs, but that’s not what I saw parked up in Aldis, noticing that the unloading process started before we got there, and was still going on when we left full of shopping 50 minutes later… :open_mouth:

The beer at Aldi and Lidle is fresh as (insert excellent metaphor here). I got nothing. [emoji6]

Well, probly all domestic beers (particularly from your home team) in any supermarket at the moment as they’re struggling with demand. Now’s the time lads. [emoji6]

They’re bottling beer for next day delivery basically which I think is pretty unprecedented. Could you imagine if the country ran dry. Be a rebellion then I reckon. [emoji16]

Aldi Bolton was really quiet this week. Practically every bay empty, straight onto it, and straight into self tip. I was the only one there at a point. Tesco, ASDA, Iceland and Morrisons RDCs have all been chocker. I was 4 and half hours on a bay at Tesco Doncaster, which was allegedly “understaffed”.

As for Benjie, you’ve got to keep trying. Getting a first job is a lot like cricket. Once you’re off the mark, things get much easier. Like it’s been said, companies trying to restart could have issues getting their drivers back to work. Especially those drivers who are longer in the tooth, and have enjoyed the last 8 weeks of being at home. The prospect of swapping that for 60 hour weeks could persuade a few into early retirement. Keep on going, something always turns up.

I see Turners are recruiting. And so are Jack Richards. Both of which take on new drivers to my knowledge. If you do tramping, then you’ll only be making the commute up and down to East Anglia once per week.

On a side note, expecting the same truck every day when working days is slightly unrealistic. As a tramper you’ll generally get the same truck (there can be exceptions when you start off, as it may take a bit of time for resources to allow it). Understandably, it’s your home on wheels, so comfort and driver state of mind comes into play.

But on days or nights, most companies just have a massive pile of keys and wil give you whatever’s on top. It’s often too complicated and inefficient managing the same truck for day and night drivers, so it’s usally a random truck you’ll be allocated every day. There are exceptions to this, and some day drivers are given the same truck every day. But it depends on the company and nature of the business.

Driver A gets delayed, so it means driver B will get the truck late and be late for his drops. They give driver B driver C’s truck, and then driver C get’s given driver D’s truck. But driver C refuses to take driver D’s truck because it doesn’t have his kettle or steering wheel cover… You get my drift.
