Hi. All. New member.
Went to my doctors to change medicine for gout. Hes sent me for a load of blood tests and apparently the liver function test can show if you are a heavy drinker.
I work full time but only drink on my 2 days off and holidays i am never under the influence when i drive but can put away 50 units a week.
I read on another site of a man who had his licence revoked for drinking 30 units per week and if my test comes back showing i “abuse” alcohol the doctor is to tell the dvla who will automstically revoke my hgv and car licence for one year.
No
Its not April the 1st yet is it
The liver damage detected in tests is about how much alcohol is left in your system after you’ve finished drinking. I’d say at 50 units per week spread over 2 days off - that’s a lot of unmetabolized alcohol, and they are quite within their rights to suggest that there is a “danger of some still being in your system” come your first shift of the following week - especially if you do early starts.…
As part of the “suitability for a LGV licence” the question will be asked “Is this person medically fit to continue holding a licence for large vehicles?” - Liver damage already evident in blood tests would imply that the body’s ability to metabolize alcohol out of the system has deteriorated - and therefore there is a danger to the applicant and others from the remnants of his previous heavy drinking session".
You might find that you have to give up the booze outright to get that licence back after a year…

The above is a guideline for GPs if blood tests come back abnormal

Thanks for your reply. 10 pints on a friday and saturday is about 40 units then say a pint after work each night or for arguments 2.5 pints on 2 other nights of the week leaving 3 nights off alcohol. Im sure theres a few on here exceeding that
50 units !!
drinkaware.co.uk/check-the- … guidelines
try 14 max
At around 2.4 units of alcohol per pint that’s a lot of beer over 2 days and closer to 60 units, not to mention around 400-450 calories per pint, so that’s a minimum of 10,000 calories.
I’m lucky if I manage 24-28 units per weekend with almost zero consumption during the week. Though if I have drink it’s probably only 1 can while watching the footy at home.
Then there’s the 1 unit / 1 hour post drink to get the alcohol out of your system before your considered fit to drive.
Never heard that one before mate, and it’s not my place to give lifestyle advice, you obviously know that you are killing yourself, but that wasn’t the question.
As a layman (and I’m quite happy to be proved wrong) I’d say the the offence is “driving or attempting to drive a motor vehicle whilst under the influence” , so going by what you have posted I’d say no offence therefore no right to revoke your licence.
Once we go down the route of “well he could possibly…” we’re on a slippery slope IMO. We’re all capable of murder but that doesn’t mean we should all be locked up just in case we do.
Can you clarify something; are you drinking 10 pints on Friday AND 10 pints on Saturday, supplemented with circa 5 pints during the week?
If so, you need to make some efforts towards cutting that down mate. Asides from verging on addiction territory, you’re body will be ■■■■■■ in a decade or two if you keep that up.
That’s from personal experience of a close relative.
I can’t answer your question but if you drink that much for two days and work the third there is a very good chance you would be over the limit on the morning off the third day. It happened to one of our drivers and he lost his licence for twelve months.
That’s an awful lot of money ■■■■■■ up against the wall, about £4000 a year at pub prices.
Im calling trolling on this.
You want to put away 50 units a week and kill yourself then that’s your business and no one else’s but it feels like your posting made up ■■■■■■■■ to me
A forum of angels with the body of an adonis and fitter than usain bolt. Well done guys

Looking at the links, it seems that the DVLA can revoke you licence on medical grounds if they think your alcohol consumption shows sign of alcohol dependency.
And it seems since the details of the Glagow Bin Lorry driver came out, the DVLA has got a bit jumpy over Licences and medical issues.
Used to drink double that and then some many years ago, but didn’t drive for a living.
I don’t think you should lose your job unless it’s still in the system at work, our place have a zero tolerance for alcohol and the threat of random breath tests though in nine months I haven’t heard of anyone having one.
There used to be an argument for not telling the doctor what your profession was, unfortunately since the bin lorry driver oxygen thief this point is now invalid.
50 units in 2 days points to alcholism on a level that bleeds into endangering the general population so joking aside the op should take a good look at themselves, but as usual the hardest person to convince a change is needed is yourself.
But the beauty of this medium is we can be whatever we want to be, the next few posts by the op will reveal if he is lying to us or lying to himself.

Two points -
You’ve had advice; most people (myself included) have hinted that the issue of licence revocation comes second to your health, because we care about our fellow humans.
Secondly, unless you are a substance abuse councellor/doctor, knowing how many units qualifies you for alcoholism is indicative in itself that you’ve researched the issue, so perhaps you already know you have some demons?
You know when former alcoholics look back and talk about how they ignored advice/pushed people away who tried to help - you’re at that stage now. If you recognise that you can sort the issues out now.
Anyway, I’ll probably be told to mind my own business, so long as you’re happy etc etc…
