I’ve never smoked drank on 1st day off dried out on 2 n d day off liked vodka 2 yrs back I got told I had throat cancer, don’t drink now vodka or stress caused cancer said docs be warned lads it catches up with you
I used to regularly drink that, and more, but exclusively over 2 days. Clock off Friday 5PM, in the pub next door by 5.05, our round was pre ordered and on always on the bar waiting for us. Cue 10 pints, at least, and accompanying 4-5 shots, couple of changes of venue, and hopefully avoid throwing up on myself, or anyone else. Get home in a taxi when the club shuts at around 4AM, pass out. Wake up Saturday, feeling incredibly well lubricated, and more than altitude sorry for myself. Spend the day alternating between the sofa and the toilet. Start again in the pub for the afternoon football match at 5.30PM, rinse and repeat the night before, maybe get home in one piece with my phone, wallet, and keys, in my trousers where they should be.
And I used wonder how a handsome lad with the looks of George Clooney, the charm of Ryan Reynolds, and the body of Brad Pitt from Troy, didn’t get laid on a regular basis by his army adoring female admirers
Start work Monday 7AM probably having somewhere between 24-30 hours off the booze, and having run and or staggered 12 miles on the Sunday afternoon/early evening. We used to regularly do breath test kits and never failed one.
But I wasn’t driving anything on a Public road, I was just working in a builders merchants. Although I doubt very much if I ever had all my faculties there on a Monday morning.
I now, have neither the money nor the inclination to do any of the above.I can manage a single session of serious liver abuse, but I suffer like ■■■■ for it the next day now!!
Giggsy:
Alkys put away 300 odd units a week.
Good for them. Did I say you were an alky? But if your putting away about 25 pints a weekend then you definitely have a problem, its not healthy and it’ll definitely shorten your life span but like I said, that’s your business not mine or anyone elses. The fact you know this implies you have worries about how much you drink
Giggsy:
No wonder theres so many unsociable idiots in the industry nowadays.
Are you implying that to be seen as sociable you need to be a drinker? I hope you’re actually meaning something else
But to answer your original query, I think someones pulling your leg.
Setting the alcohol debate aside, I’m curious enough to ask the OP what their BMI is?

A red face and a little shakey i guess lol
if your drinking that many units on a weekend how can you not be over the limit on a Monday morning, as a former publican I have seen customers who have had a skin full that would put others on the floor, they are fully coherent, walk without staggering, they look sober for all intensive purposes, but I wouldn’t like to think they are behind the wheel of 44T the next morning.
Im in the pub most fridays while waiting for the boat. And I don’t drink couple of colas you don’t need to drink alcohol to go to a pub but yes you could loose your license if the blood come back how you think they will. Some good advice has been given might be an idea to heed it

Hi. All. New member.
Went to my doctors to change medicine for gout. Hes sent me for a load of blood tests and apparently the liver function test can show if you are a heavy drinker.
I work full time but only drink on my 2 days off and holidays i am never under the influence when i drive but can put away 50 units a week.
I read on another site of a man who had his licence revoked for drinking 30 units per week and if my test comes back showing i “abuse” alcohol the doctor is to tell the dvla who will automstically revoke my hgv and car licence for one year.
I wouldn’t worry too much what the doc may or may not do. If, hower, you put away 25 units on a Saturday and another 25 units on a Sunday, then I could pretty confidently say that if you got pulled in your lorry at 06.00am on Monday, you would still be well over the limit.
So the answer to your question is, yes!

My assumption was that the OP meant Friday night and Saturday night…
I personally couldn’t drink that as I’m not conditioned to it, but if I was and had concerns that my liver couldn’t process the alcohol very well, I’d still be worried about a breath test on a Monday morning!
as a type 2 diabetic i have regular blood tests and a few years back my lfts were raised and my nurse questioned me about my alcohol intake,i cut it down and still the lfts were high,i stopped drinking and the lfts were still high, she then took me off the dicoflenic tablets i had been taking for a knee problem and my lft results went back to normal…its not only booze that can affect the liver!
To answer the OPs question - yes the doctor could inform DVLA and if so your licence is highly likely to be revoked. The doctor would not inform DVLA if it wasn’t a concern.
As for the rest - Most comments on here are spot on.

I think others are just telling you what you already know (or you would not have posted the thread), you drink too much, and certainly too much to be a driver.
I am not being all high and mighty and butter-wouldn’t-melt and all that … I have had plenty 8 and 10 pint sessions (in my youth, probably kill me these days) But heavy drinking and heavy lorries do not go together and if any of your tests come back as having decreased liver or renal function then you need to pack it in and literally go-on-the-wagon. Don’t make yourself ill, life is far too short as it is.
I know of someone who had a seizure and the consultant stated that this had been caused by binge drinking, their car licence was revoked for 1 year and any vocational entitlement for 10 years, a close friend of mine woke up down an embankment being tended to by paramedics he lost his licence and his job.
It’s up to you, I love a drink but it never comes before my health or my work, after the Glasgow incident we all need to be mindful of our health and how its so easy to lose you’re licence on health grounds, you’re drinking is excessive and if you continue you won’t have a car licence never mind one for a truck.
Sorry to break it to you but thats how it is.
I’ll be going for double figures to nite.
Have done, every Saturday for the last 30 years.
Ive had my hgv revoked thanks to this very situation. Although my background was depression. My doctor made a note on my file that I was drinking on my days off(not around work) and my boss at the time made me ring the dvla to tell them I’ve been diagnosed so thinking I’d be a good driver I did just that. I was banned effectively from end of Jan and I’ve had 2 blood tests and docs medicals. Second and most important is a protein test of the blood which detects regular use of over 21 units weekly in your blood and apparently it’s very accurate.
I’ve passed the tests and their medical team have recommended I get it all back, it was all or nothing but as I’m not a heavy drinker anymore(I’m only 33), I knew I’d pass.
Now, 7 ■■■■■■■ weeks after being banned and having no income I’ve just received a D2 in the post to send back and hopefully my ordeal will be over soon.
I won’t say anymore as I’m on a public forum but happy to answer pm’s if anyone needs more information they’ve destroyed my life.
I’m getting £73 a week on esa thanks to a sick note for stress, my 3 kids and wife are suffering with me it’s been the worst 7 weeks of my life and it’s not over yet as I can’t get back to work.
The director at heanor haulage sacked me and said I could have a job if I get my license back, cheers you prick
yet he kept on a driver caught so ■■■■■■ up before Xmas he ran into a parked car
shows what a nob he is I’m better off not working for such a bell end.
Hopefully I’ll look back and laugh at this one day but it’s not a great situation so be very careful how you tread when talking to any doc about drinking alcohol
By the way it’s their view on ‘persistent miss-use of alcohol’ to which there are no guidelines, but you could have 2-3 months off unpaid like me while doing these tests and if they come back clear like mine you’ll be ok, if you’ve drank heavily for a long time it will show up and you’ll have your car taken to.
I’d love to claim back my loss of earnings
■■■■■■■■ Ollie what a situation mate. I’ve got a friend who’s wife has left him and making it difficult to see his kids. He’s also a lorry driver, he is really depressed only leaves the house to go to work. I’ve told him to go to the doctors to get some happy pills but he told me he is scared he would loose his licence, I’m like why the hell would you lose your licence for asking for help on a mental health matter…going by your account it could happen although he doesn’t turn to drink to deal with it. He sleeps a lot.
DVLA can revoke a licence if the Doctor suspects persistent alcohol abuse although this would normally require a blood test to show elevated levels of bilirubin. Apparently it is considered to be unsafe for a person to hold an HGV licence if they regularly drink more than Government guidelines, even if they never drink while over or anywhere near the legal limit for driving, although curiously it’s not considered to be unsafe to work a 15 hour day, have nine hours off and do it all again.

Plenty of HGV drivers have had their licences revoked for depression, just look on the Health and Family forum. My girlfriend works with somebody who had their car licence revoked for it.

Whenever I park up now, I’m normally asleep within the hour only to wake up just before my alarm.
